I woke to the bamboo chime clonking away. It’s definitely turned messy. It’s pouring rain and blowing hard. The wind’s running in the upper teens and gusting over 30. It’s 45F which is pretty chilly for it being clouded up. There’s almost 2 inches in the rain gauge. I didn’t dump it yesterday, although I will this morning on the way out, but there was only an inch on Wednesday.
I need *so* badly to get out to the garden to weed! I’m seeing early greening of certain sections. Even the sage plants are trying to put out new growth. I took a pic of the rosebud on Wednesday, but keep forgetting to upload the camera to the computer. Maybe I can get to that today.
It seemed to rain all day yesterday. At one point it was coming down “chunky” and at another it was very slow. I went out to check both times and the slow rain was indeed snow, but melting before it got to the ground.
Tempus was supposed to come back for me, but as it got later and later with me doing laundry and washing my hair, etc. we decided not, so I started in on making a fish chowder that I had planned the night I made fish for dinner. Monday, was that?
That started with peeled, cut potatoes, boiled with onion, celery and mushrooms. I added celery salt, dill and cilantro, and a little more salt, later, then just before I expected Tempus home I put the fish and the juice from the baking the other night, into the pot. We ended up with two servings for today and 5 in the freezer.
I was working on website updates. I got the earring sections done and sent off to Karin. Wow, finally… Tempus had gotten home by then (it was after 9pm) and he sat down with his chowder and then got the bed made. I looked up a few crystal correspondences, boxed up the soup, took care of the some business stuff and then we headed off to bed.
Today I’m going to be at the shop. As messy as it is, maybe we can get some chunks of inventory done. We’ll probably close on time tonight. The weather’s not supposed to get worse.
The Feast of the Perpendicular Sun happens twice a year in Egypt at the Tempus of Abu Simbel, built for Ramses II in the 13th century BCE. The aisle of the temple lights up with the sunrise until all the way at the back of the temple the Pharoah’s particular gods are illuminated. This happens on Ramses birthday and the anniversary date of his ascent to the throne, iow 2/22 and 10/22. Because of the Aswan Dam the temple was disassembled and moved to higher ground in the 60’s, but the dates are still good. Today’s plant is Herb Margaret, Bellis perennis, the archetypal European Daisy, sometimes called Woundwort. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bellis_perennis
The shop opens at 11am. Winter hours are 11am-6pm Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open! In case of bad weather, check here at the blog for updates, on our Facebook as Ancient Light or call the shop at 541-563-7154.

Celtic Tree Month of Nuin/Nion, Ash begins today. The common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) is a major tree of lowland forests in much of Europe, along with oaks and beeches. It grows to 40 m (130 feet) in open sites, with a broad crown reminiscent of American elm trees. Ash was and still is an important timber tree, and is a traditional material for the handle of a besom. The common ash is occasionally cultivated in North America, and similar native ash species are widely grown as street trees. Ashes are members of the Olive family (Oleaceae).

Magick – Ostara Spells – Ostara – A good time for spells of love, healing and protection.
A protective egg Charm
Take an egg and, by poking small holes at each end of it, empty it out. Fill the egg with Cinquefoil leaf and Dogwood, then tape the holes shut. You can decorate the egg with Runes or symbols of protection, or you can leave it natural. Your home and property will be protected.
Pick a white dandelion puff on the night of the full moon. Charge the dandelion with a wish, call to the four quarters, and blow your wish into the wind.
An Ostara Love Spell
Now, a love spell is not to MAKE someone love you, Witches believe that that sort of manipulation of a person is wrong. Love spells are done to show you your future mate in a premonition, or to draw the right love to you, of their own free will- basically giving Mr. or Mrs. right a gentle push in the right direction.
Read the spell over, gather the ingredients listed, then at night before you go to sleep, recite the spell and perform the actions as you recite them:
Of violets and Lavender, take each a few,
Enclose them with Myrtle of dark green hue.
Make them in a posy, small and round and bright,
May you see your true love in your dreams tonight.
Toss crushed eggshells into the garden and say:
For fairy, for flowers, for herbs in the bowers,
The shells pass fertility with springtime flowers.
Eat an egg you have empowered with a quality you desire.
Bless some seeds with a wish. Plant them, and as they come up, the wish is fulfilled
