Today is Egg Day! We’ll be dying some eggs for ourselves and I’ll have the craft supplies out for all sorts of egg crafts. Want to learn how to safely “blow” an egg? That, too! Bring your eggs in and use the supplies for $2.
Yesterday we got to the shop in plenty of time and did a lot of cleaning before people started coming in. I had harvested quite a bit of comfrey and horehound, along with a few other bits, so Herbs Workshop covered drying those. Tempus started taking apart the ripped “lid” that I have to do something about and then after hunting for the cover (he calls it “the condom” 🙂 ) for most of an hour he got it put away. The cover got “stashed” in with the clothes on Saturday, for some reason. I had beads to sort for the Children’s Craft hour and got that done, but no one came in. No one was in for Tempus’ Talk, “A Physicist’s Take on Wicca”, either. So I got a nap after that, did some sorting of scattered supplies and a little sewing while he was “rassling” his computer and then we closed just before 8pm, hit the grocery store and came home.
I listened to some lovely YouTubes of Wiccan Music. Chalice & Blade’s “I hear you Calling”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQWEfGhEnpY Then “The Greenman” by John Durston…although the guitar masks his voice too much of the time…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRHejaIqxAY … and then, this one is really lovely. I don’t know whether Circle of Women has any albums out, but I’m going hunting…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siPAcSEODaw

Today is one of only two “royalty” days in the US. Prince Kuhio was the heir to the throne of Hawaii and became the territorial delegate to Congress, authoring the first Statehood bill. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Kuhio_Day
Today’s Plant is Vanilla Leaf or Sweet-After-Death, Achlys triphylla,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achlys_%28plant%29 . It grows all up and down the West Coast of North America and there’s another species in Japan. It was used as an insect repellent by the local peoples and has a strong vanilla scent if dried properly. It is used in Crossing the Bridge rituals along with rosemary and often placed in the hands of those who are Crossing or have just Crossed or in spells to ease their way.
The shop opens at 11am today, but we should be there by 10. Winter hours are 11am-6pm Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open! In case of bad weather, check here at the blog for updates, on our Facebook as Ancient Light or call the shop at 541-563-7154.

Affirmation/Thought for the Day – Every time you get the urge to move, get up and move!
~ Whatever the tradition, years of practice are necessary before an opening occurs and you finally realize the absurdity of trying to achieve anything. This search for truth or enlightenment is the barrier itself that separates us from what we seek. – Dennis Genpo Merzel
~ When anxious, uneasy and bad thoughts come, I go to the sea, and the sea drowns them out with its great wide sounds, cleanses me with its noise, and imposes a rhythm upon everything in me that is bewildered and confused. – Rainer Maria Rilke
~ You are not a human being having a spiritual experience. You are a spiritual being having a human experience. – Dr. Wayne Dyer
~ You cannot choose your battlefield, God does that for you; But you can plant a standard Where a standard never flew. – Stephen Crane (1871-1900) US writer
A woman once described a friend of hers as being such a keen listener that even the trees leaned toward her, as if they were speaking their innermost secrets into her listening ears. Over the years I’ve envisioned that woman’s silence, a hearing full and open enough that the world told her its stories. The green leaves turned toward her, whispering tales of soft breezes and the murmurs of leaf against leaf. – Linda Hogan
No student will ever make any progress in spiritual development who flits from system to system; first using some New Thought affirmations, then some Yoga breathing exercises and meditation-postures, and following these by an attempt at the mystical methods of prayer. Each of these systems has its value, but that value can only be realized if the system is carried out in its entirety. They are the calisthenics of consciousness, and aim at gradually developing the powers of the mind. The value does not lie in the prescribed exercises as ends in themselves, but in the powers that will be developed if they are persevered with. If we intend to take our occult studies seriously and make of them anything more than desultory light reading, we must choose our system and carry it out faithfully until we arrive, if not at its ultimate goal, at any rate at definite practical results and a permanent enhancement of consciousness. After this has been achieved we may, not without advantage, experiment with the methods that have been developed upon other Paths, and build up an eclectic technique and philosophy therefrom; but the student who sets out to be an eclectic before he has made himself an expert will never be anything more than a dabbler. – Dion Fortune’s “Mystical Qabala” Chapter II:1
Silliness – (Mohabee says:) My favorite expression, which I learned in my youth:
Roses are reddish, violets are bluish; if it wasn’t for Christmas, we’d all be Jewish!
This usually brings a smile to anyone disinterested in Christianity, and non-orthodox Jews.
