Herbs Workshop at 11am (roses, mostly). Crystals at Noon, on agates. Sewing workshop is BYOP (bring your own project) and unless someone brings in a question I’m going to be working on embroideries, especially since I found the Theban initial pouches!
The computer says it’s clear, but the sun is going in and out. It’s already 60F.
Yesterday seemed to just fly by. I don’t know why, unless it was because I was very tired at the beginning of it. I did my Daily Dozen and pulled 3 times as much grass as I did the hawkweed. I’m already seeing progress, but it’ll take awhile to get all the way across the yard, since I’m managing a 3 foot square each morning is all. I harvested quite a lot of rose petals on the way out and the white bush is trying for another blossom.
When we got down to the shop, Tempus had some computer work to do so I sat down with some embroidery and looked at the beautiful morning between times. … and then people started coming in. Some were customers. One was the lady who won the $50 gift certificate at the Beachcombers raffle. Several were friends, one of whom was Cat with grandbaby. I did a reading and then the lady who is coordinating the children’s activities for OCPPG was there for several hours. I embroidered while we talked and almost finished another needlebook cover! I’m going to trim it and take photos in the morning. Late in the day we had a couple of young women in who were asking about Wicca.
A local guy who does amazing 1/2 inch to the foot scale houses stopped by to show us a recent creation. He’s talking about doing a few “specials” for the shop! His houses have furniture and people and are very detailed. He told us about making the to-scale shingles with bits from the cedar drift log.
Our Psychic Fair is next weekend and he’s going to have his wares out front during shop hours over the 5th-7th. Our planter guy is also going to be there at least on Saturday. Alf is going to have his drinking horns for sale and being doing Rune Readings over the weekend, and at least one Q&A on Asatru. I’m going to be doing the standard workshops, but at least one special on lavendar.
We did get the clothes checked in. There are some lovely blouses in this mix and a simple blue velour dress that would be great ritual wear, and a couple of kurta-like tops which will work well in the hot weather. I think I’m going to grab a few more pieces off the Saturday Rack to put out on the floor. We still have the “Grandkids as cute as buttons” jumper and some other nice pieces. The rack will be out today, of course, which will give me a chance to play with it a bit.
The boxes didn’t get put away. <sigh> …but with the Children’s Activities stack having been created, we’ve room to get a few more done in the morning…. Good thing, else there’d be no place for the Herbs & Crystals workshops! I did manage to get some done on all of the plans with the exception of the library. <sigh>
Carl sent me a review copy of the Magic Moment episode. Look for it to go live on Tuesday, 7/2! Yes, I’ll put the link in the newsletter and then it will go up on the website.
…and more boxes are showing up. We’re gutting one of the storage areas and going through the boxes and re-stacking. <groan> Yet another…but there’s stuff we need to find. The back end of the shop’s going to be a bit chaotic for a couple of weeks.

Today’s feast is for Petosiris, called Ankhefenkhons, who was the high priest of Thoth at Hermopolis and held various priestly degrees in the service of Sakhmet, Khnum, Amen-Re and Hathor. The son of Sishu and Nefer-renpet, he lived in the second half of the 4th century BCE under Persian rule. In his tomb inscriptions (his tomb is in the necropolis at Tuna el-Gebel) he prided himself on having restored the fortunes of the temples in which he served. There is a pseudepigraphic onomantic text, Petosiris to Nechepso, and it is possible that the priestly Petosiris described in this article is the inspiration for the attribution of authorship. Nechepso lived in the 7th century BC and that the text is likely 2nd century BC. http://www.reshafim.org.il/ad/egypt/texts/petosiris.htm
Today’s plant is Goldenrod, Solidago Canadensis. A good browse plant, although not shade-tolerant, it is one of the first plants to colonize burned-off areas. In Fukishima it has taken over the rice fields near the wrecked nuclear plant. – Feminine, Venus, Air – Wear a piece of goldenrod to see your future love. Hold a piece in the hand and it will direct you to things you’ve lost or buried treasure. If it blooms by your door without being planted, good fortune will follow. It’s also used in money spells and has the property of survival. Wiki article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solidago_canadensis
The shop opens at 11am although I’m planning to be there early. Spring hours are 11am-7pm, Thursday through Monday. If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open! In case of bad weather, check here at the blog for updates, on our Facebook as Ancient Light or call the shop at 541-563-7154.

This is the time of year when the dim Little Dipper floats straight upward from Polaris (the end of its handle) after dark, like a helium balloon on a string escaped from a summer evening party.
Venus (magnitude –3.8) is gaining altitude very gradually, low in the west-northwest in evening twilight. Use binoculars to pick up Pollux and Castor off to its upper right or right.

Duir Oak – Jun 10 – Jul 7 – The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word “robust”). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

I know you
I know you.
I have never seen you until this moment in my life, but I know you.
You must feel it.
You open your arms to hug me before we speak a word.
Where could I have seen you?
We have never been near each other in this life.
I know you.
I know what fits with who you are.
There are no questions as I make a gift for you.
Green and white and pearl and rosemary and sandalwood and hibiscus
Shells and stones from the beach and some small egg cases for beginnings
Just a certainty
Just beginnings again.
How do I know?
I don’t know how I know.
I just know,
With a certainty that could frighten me into speechlessness,
If I didn’t know with such depth
Even your friends saw it
That first evening.
They laughed to see the connection.
Recognizing something beyond the Seen.
But always my thinking part says, “What?”
It says, “How?”
It says, “No!”
Talking self does not understand.
I know you.
Even if I had never seen you again
Your existence in this time would be a gift to me from the Universe.
Knowing that you live
Spills over from my eyes in tears
That I add to my gift
Knowing that this, too
You will understand. – © 2007 M. Bartlett (from Silhouette of a Loon, published by Ancient Light Press)

Fruit Salad with Love Spell – Adapted from Recipe by Morgana of Hawaii – http://www.fortunecity.com/greenfield/tigris/567/id20.htm
Make a salad of the below-listed ingredients, concentrating on the love you wish to share. Chant the Spell Incantation as you chop and slice.
Fruit Salad Ingredients:
1 cup Mango
1/2 cup Pine Nuts (optional)
1 cup Pineapple, to be cut into bite-size chunks
1 cup Apple, to be cut into bite-size chunks
1 cup Peaches, to be cut into bite-size chunks
2 or 3 Bananas, to be sliced (depending on personal preference)
1 small jar Red Cherries
1/2 cup Coconut (if desired)
“Fruit of mango, fruit of pine,
Let the one I love be mine.
Fruit of apple, fruit of peach,
Bring him (her) close within my reach.
Fruit of banana, fruit of cherry,
Let his (her) love for me not vary.
As I work my magick spell,
Warmly in his (her) heart I dwell.
I now invoke the Law of Three:
This is my will, so mote it be!”
Mingle the fruits and place your hands on either side of the bowl, while visualizing you and your loved one building a life together. Then serve the salad.
(The above recipe for “Fruit Salad with Love Spell” is adapted from Morgana of Hawaii’s recipe in Scott Cunningham’s book “The Magic in Food: Legends, Lore & Spells”, page 243, Llewellyn Publications, 1990.)
