It’s very dim (pre-sunrise), cloudy and I cans ee the trees thrashing. It’s 58F, which is good. I was worried that we might be dealing with the kind of temps in this wind that drives the chill through. Wind is only gusting into the teens right now, but might get up to 60 in the afternoon. Yeah, some of the outdoor activities might get interesting. We’ll see.
My classes went well, except that I kept leaving stuff behind in all the wrong places. My jacket is still at Laura’s Studio, but that’s ok, since my first class is there this morning! I’m just going to be cold…. Holly’s soap class was well-attended and Tempus’ Geomancy.
Except for starting and running late, the evening was also fun. Supper ran until 8 and then another batch of us were over there until 9pm, but the Sumble was going by then and that ran until nearly 11pm! We had 24 at the supper. Here’s hoping things will run as well today.
We are under some weather conditions, already. The waves are up, rolling in pretty high… This is last night’s alert. http://www.wunderground.com/US/OR/002.html#WND We’re *probably* going to make some class changes. Meditation on the Beach, for example, is *still* *scheduled*, but we’ll be going to a different place and doing a more active meditation, rather than sitting quietly…and expect to get wet and chilled! Dress for it and then take advantage of the hot drinks at Ancient Light!

Today’s plant is the Rhododendron genus, specifically the wild rhodys that we have out here, that should be blooming in the next two or three weeks, the Pacific rhododendron, Rhododendron macrophyllum. Rhodys have native forms in much of the world (not South America or Africa) They are one of the showiest of the flowers with hybrids and cultivars all over the place, including the azaleas which fall into this genus, but there are some that you wouldn’t recognize, having almost no flowers at all! The plant is toxic to many animals and honey made from some of plants will make you ill. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhododendron Our rhodys out here are lovely during their bloom time, when you see a hit of pink here and there along highways and trails and in the woods and then within days drifts and swathes and whole hillsides are pink! It’s a hardy plant, which grows well in disturbed places, particularly areas that were burned over. It will re-grow from the scorched roots! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhododendron_macrophyllum – There aren’t any magickal references to rhododendrons that I’ve found, which doesn’t make any sense, since at least the cultivated ones are all over! Azaleas stand for Temperance in the language of flowers. Yellow rhododendron, native to Siberia, is use for rheumatism, gout and syphilis. My personal uses for them are for glamourie, beauty and outward show, but also for the learning to make these unnecessary by creating inward beauty and serenity. When these flowers are in season I use the fresh ones as a “notice me!” spell.

Today’s Astro & Calendar
The Moon is a Waning Crescent. Waning Moon Magick – From the Full Moon to the New is a time for study, meditation, and magic designed to banish harmful energies and habits, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity. Waning Crescent Moon – Best time for beginning introspective magicks that are more long term (full year cycle) A good time for beginning knot magicks to “bind up” addictions and illness (finish just before the Tide Change of Dark to New) and “tying up loose ends” God/dess aspects – Demeter weeping for her Daughter, Mabon, Arachne Tyr. Phase ends on 9/30 at 8:35am.
This is the time of year when, in mid-evening, W-shaped Cassiopeia stands on end halfway up the northeastern sky — and when, off to its left, the dim Little Dipper extends straight leftward from Polaris in the north.

Muin – Vine Sep 2 – 29 – Muin – (MUHN, like “foot”), vine – The grape (Vitis vinifera L.) is a vine growing as long as 35 m (115 feet), in open woodlands and along the edges of forests, but most commonly seen today in cultivation, as the source of wine, grape juice, and the grape juice concentrate that is so widely used as a sweetener. European grapes are extensively cultivated in North America, especially in the southwest, and an industry and an agricultural discipline are devoted to their care and the production of wine. Affirmation/Thought for the Day – We fall in love…we fall out of love…we search for new loves… yearn for old loves….we have memories….we make new memories…we live every day of our lives…sometimes not the way that we want to…but we do it anyway…never forget to tell someone you love that you love them…never say never…and laugh it is good for your soul…

~ No is the kind of power the good witch wields. – Sugar
~ I think I might as well give up being a candidate. There are so many people in the country who don’t like me. – William Howard Taft (1857-1930) US President (27)
~ The best words for resolving a disagreement are, ‘I could be wrong; I often am.’ It’s true. – Brian Tracy
If you want to be a holy man, you’ve got to be committed. When you make a decision you cannot waver in any way. You’d never see Gandhi during a hunger strike sneaking into the kitchen in the middle of the night. ‘Gandhi…what are you doing down there?’ ‘Umm, I thought I heard a prowler…and I was going to hit him over the head with this big bowl of potato salad.’ –Jim Carrey
Magick – August 27, 2013 – Light of the Party – Confidence in Social Situations by Madisyn Taylor – If you feel shy or awkward in social situations, know that many others are probably feeling the same way too.
If you’ve ever been to a social gathering where you’ve felt awkward and uncomfortable, chances are you are not alone. While social gatherings can be very enjoyable, especially when we are surrounded by people whose company we enjoy, there are social events that we attend where we sometimes find ourselves wishing we were someplace else. Such occasions can sometimes be the cause of much anxiety and self-consciousness. We may even feel like everyone else is having a good time except for us. Yet the truth is that everyone has felt shy and awkward on occasion. One of the best ways to overcome self-consciousness or get past your feelings of shyness at social gatherings is to focus on the people around you. If you can remember that other people might also be feeling awkward or shy, you might find the thought of speaking to them less intimidating or overwhelming.
The next time there is a social event you feel nervous about attending, you may want to try this exercise: Spend some time with your eyes closed and breathe deeply. When you feel ready, create your own zone of comfort by visualizing yourself surrounded in a warm white light that is protective yet accepting of others. Imagine people at the event being drawn to you because of the open and warm feelings that you are radiating. When you arrive at the event, take a moment to spread this same light of loving acceptance to everyone around you. Smile and greet people warmly. Try going up to someone who is standing alone and introduce yourself. When you radiate acceptance, openness, and receptivity, people can’t help but respond to you in kind.
Focusing on how we can make other people at a social gathering feel at ease can help us forget about our own insecurities. In the process, we end up making the very connections that we seek. The next time you attend a social gathering, invite people to join you in your zone of comfort that you have so lovingly and intentionally created. Let yourself enjoy being encircled in the warmth of their friendships.
