It’s 68F, not supposed to be as hot as yesterday, but I dunno.
Yesterday I got up early to get the newsletter out, but went back to bed while it was still cool. It stayed nice in my study pretty much all afternoon, but the rest of the house got hotter than usual. It actually wasn’t comfortable in the bedroom. It was 88F outside and places from Yachats to Otter Crest went over 90F! It was hot enough that a special weather statement went out, warning people that the rivers are still very cold and flowing fast, and that folks get killed every single year, underestimating such.
By 6pm I was pretty well done with the week’s newsletters. Tempus had gone out to clean out a friend’s sunroom, since she’s getting some painting work done on it. The clouds had been thickening all afternoon, but it was mostly high cirrus, so it didn’t cool things at all. I tried to go out to the garden at about that point. Nope, too hot for Anja!
I ended up giving Anton a ride to Newport and it turned out that Tempus wanted me to stop to pick him up some stuff, but I didn’t find out in time. Oh, well… I was watching, the whole way out and back, the sundogs and the occasional halo around the sun. It was a 22 instead of 45 degrees and really brilliant. The rhododendrons are coming into full bloom. Whole hillsides are starting to blush. In a week or so they’re going to be *awesome*!
It was still 75 at 9pm! …but it was definitely cooling down, finally. I don’t *like* hot weather. Newport set a record high since 1892 for the month of April of 86F.
The shop is open today. I’m hoping to get my hands henna’d by Cliona in the late afternoon, but otherwise I’m going to be at the shop. So will Tempus, I think, which means we have a lot of chores to do.

Celtic Tree Month of Saille/Willow, Apr 15 – May 12 – The Willow in the Tree alphabet stands for the female and lunar rhythms of life. She is water-seeking, thriving from preference on the damp margins of lakes and streams or across the low-lying water meadows. Water and the tidal movements of the sea are governed by the pull of the moon. The moon in its monthly rhythms is female, contrasting with the male sun’s daily and yearly turnings. In several ways, the Celts held women in higher regard than we do today. On the material level, women were property owners, and whoever controlled the property controlled the marriage. Women of all types and ages appeared in the Celtic pantheon, the spiritual strength and life-giving qualities given by both female and male recognized equally. There were colleges of Druidesses – learned women and teachers – respected equally for their gifts of see-ship, often expressed through dreams, or night visions. Magical Associations: Romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magic for women.

Last year, I joined campaigners seeking to erect a memorial to the Diggers on St George’s Hill. We occupied a small corner of the estate and started negotiating to plant a stone close to the site on which the Diggers built their village. We stayed for a month, before being injuncted, with the memorial, off the property. – George Monbiot, English journalist and author; ‘Still Digging’
A Prayer of thanks to a lover – excerpt from Fifth Sacred Thing By Starhawk;
My love, you are a river fed by many streams
I bless all who have shaped you,
The lovers whose delights still dance patterns on your back,
Those who carved your channels deeper, broader, wider,
Whitewater and backwater lovers,
Swamp lovers , sun-warmed estuary lovers,
Lovers with surface tension,
Lovers like boulders,
Like ice forming and breaking,
Lovers that fill and spill with the tides.
I bless those who have taught you and those who have pleased you and
those who have hurt you.
All those who have made you who you are.
May day is a good time to promote love and happiness in your life. To do so, use pastel-colored candles, as many as possible, and a large bowl of fresh water with flower petals floating in it. Adorn your ritual space with flowers and new leaves, and sing the following verse to the spirits of the holiday:
Queen of the May,
A more joyous time has never been.
and children sing,
Fairies bless each river and sacred spring.
All life is joyous
and we revel,
In being healthy, happy, and alive.
The Morris Dancers
Stomp the Earth,
Wakening Gaia with blissful mirth.
in vibrant hue,
Signaling all Earth’s life is born anew.
Magic springs underfoot from the ground.
Love and passions
fill the air,
Celebration and revelry is everywhere.
On this day,
My true love come to me; Let us share our hearts in festivity.
the Maypole round,
Laughter and music freely abound.
Joyousness and reverence mix together now,
Blessing virgin, bird, and cow.
Danu’s Fairy Folk now draw near,
Their laughter and magic is growing clear.
I share this day
with those I love,
Healing Sun streams from above.
the Queen of the May,
So blessed be this sacred day.
So mote it be. ~Abby Willowroot )0( Visit Crone’s Corner on Yahoo http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Crones_Corner/
