It’s 59F and quite thickly clouded over
I asked Tempus if I could stay home yesterday because I hadn’t slept well and had some writing to do. He agreed. It was a good thing because another migraine hit. I had been doing website/blog updates for several hours when I realized I was getting weird patterns in what I was looking at. Well…. At least I know how to treat ’em. So, I worked on sorting pictures and when it got too bad, went and curled up for awhile.

Today is World No Tobacco Day, a day of abstinence from the products, intended to showcase the negatives of tobacco use. Ashtrays are often cleaned and filled with fresh flowers. In my case, although there usually aren’t any ashtrays around me, I add flowers to those that I see in honor of my beloved grandfather, who died of lung cancer from a pack-a-day habit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_No_Tobacco_Day
Today’s Plant is Yarrow, Achillea millefolium. This plant is often called woundwort or nosebleed because of its clotting properties and is used for fevers and infections because it has salicylates (aspirin) in it. The young leaves can be eaten and it becomes and aid to vision-work. It’s easy to grow and makes a great companion plant. We have mostly the pacifica and californica varieties out here. – Feminine, Venus, Water. Exorcism – Wear to protect – hold in hand to stop fear – hang over bed for lasting love – carry for love and bring friends and contact with relatives. Flower – Feminine, Venus, Water – flowers made into tea for psychic power, or Exorcism, protection. Can be added to handfasting magicks. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarrow

Mistletoe is, however, seldom found on a hard-oak, and when it is discovered it is gathered with great ceremony, and particularly on the 6th day of the moon (which for those tribes [Druids] constitutes the beginning of the months and the years) and after every thirty years of a generation, because it is then rising in strength and not one half its full size. – Pliny the Elder (Plinius maior or Gaius Plinius Secundus; 23 CE – 79), Natural History XVI xcv. 250
Summer by Marian Lore Singer – http://www.fortunecity.com/greenfield/tigris/567/id20.htm
Standing midst the Circle
I look at faces —
all searching for that special spark
that sense of connection
which spans all words
We come together
to know the same magic
that moved the great stones
birthed the dragons
and touched even the stars
with its mighty song.
to sense the power
rising within us
like the glory of a summer sun
until we too sing
its timeless ballad.
until our souls dance hand in hand
with the Lady of Light
and Lord of the Fires
(The above “Summer” poem is quoted directly from Llewellyn’s 1994 Magical Almanac, page 169, Llewellyn Worldwide Publications, 1993.)
Silliness – Sniglets – Bozone: The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.
