The sky has been a blank white since I got up, but “overcast at 200 feet” is starting to burn off in patches. The wind is picking up a little, too. It’s only 54F and I’m *sleepy*! Oof…. gotta be at the shop in less than an hour…..
I ruthlessly harvested roses from my pink one by the north steps, all but stripping the plant, as I was getting ready to head for the shop, yesterday. I got there with one minute to spare! Herbs was all about those roses and all kinds of things that can be made from roses. No one was in for Crystals again, and by that point Tempus and I were talking about how to sort out some things that have been in the way a lot.
Mary Moore was in a couple of times, first for some shopping and then for Sewing Workshop. I ended up stitching pouches while she was working on a new knit-along. She doesn’t know what it’s going to end up as, either! Geurin was in later and we worked on getting her up to speed on the construction of some of the pouches….
I ended up taking several naps, yesterday, a couple of them quite unexpectedly. I’ve been having problems with my asthma at night and it keeps me awake.
Today we have Wicca 101 at 9:30 or so, and then Marius and I are headed for the Elders’ Council in Eugene. Tempus will be at the shop all day and will be running the Project Day. I’m not sure what time I’m going to be getting home. It’ll be good to see Elan and Grace. They’re hosting today.
Today ‘s feast is that of Bona Mens in the old Roman Empire. Mens is the personification of the “good mind” and had a temple on the Capitoline Hill. It’s long gone and there were apparently no records made of what it looked like. There’s a wiki article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mens
Today’s Plant is the local larkspurs, delphinium trollifolium, and delphinium pavonaceum (which the Wiki article says is confined to the Valley, but I’ve collected out here….) are pretty flowers in shades of white, blue and purple. They’re called delphiniums (dolphins) after the shape of the nectary. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphinium_trolliifolium and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphinium_pavonaceum Other names are Larksheal and Staggerweed – Feminine, Venus, Water – The flowers frighten away venomous creatures and ghosts. Sprinkle between your eyes and a Litha fire to keep your sight clear. Use in rituals to call upon Dolphin energy.

All are thorny shrubs in the Rose family (Rosaceae), and most have whitish or pinkish flowers. The common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) and midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata (Poiret) DC.) are both widespread. They are common in abandoned fields and along the edges of forests. Both are cultivated in North America, as are several native and Asiatic hawthorns. Curtis Clark

Next was November; he full grown and fat
As fed with lard, and that right well might seeme;
For he had been a fatting hogs of late,
That yet his browes with sweat did reek and steam;
And yet the season was full sharp and breem;
In planting eeke he took no small delight,
Whereon he rode, not easy was to deeme
For it a dreadful centaure was in sight,

Hotogov Mailgan – 6/22: White Nights (Russia) – Themes: Sky; Tradition; Arts Symbol: Pale Light
About Hotogov Mailgan: In Siberia, Hotogov Mailgan illuminates the night sky with her heavenly sparkle. She is the Queen of the Sky, a creative force for personal empowerment, and the manifester of the life energies in and around us.
To Do Today: Between June 21 and June 29 the skies in Russia always appear light gray at night because of the northern location. The effect throughout St. Petersburg is very magical, casting unique shadows on the lavender, pink, and yellow pastel-colored buildings. To celebrate this beauty, the citizens enjoy traditional Russian ballets, theatrical performances, and music. So, get out the theme music from Dr. Zhivago, rent a ballet featuring Barishnikov, or cook yourself up some Russian dumplings (varnekey) and invite this goddess to join you.
If you perform any magic today, try putting up some pastel-colored curtains around the space to filter the outside light so it suits Hotogove Mailgan. Or darken the room and use glow-in-the-dark stars to mark the magical circle so you’re literally surrounded by her power.
Try taking a bubble bath and dotting the surface of the water with glitter to look like Hotogov Mailgan’s night sky. Then sit, relax, and meditate, absorbing the hopeful, dreamy energy that her stars inspire in people everywhere. – )0( By Patricia Telesco~ From “365 Goddess” and GrannyMoon’s Morning Feast
Antheia – Arretophoria (Greece) Themes: Promises; Friendship; Trust; Honor; Community; Love; Relationships – Symbols: Gold-colored Items; Honey; Myrrh
About Antheia: Since 800 B.C.E. Antheia has been known as the Greek Goddess of marriage, companionship, and good council. These attributes manifested themselves in a triple Goddess figure who flowered, sought a mate, and reached perfection. Today we ask her to bless our rites by flowering within our souls so we too can obtain spiritual perfection.
To Do Today: In ancient Greece this festival of trust and friendship was held sometime between June and July. Each year, two maidens were given a special honey-laden diet and clothed in golden robes to take on a special trust. They delivered a package untouched to a secret place in a local temple, then spent the year in community service, never peeking inside the box. This sounds like a fun activity for couples or friends. Each person picks out a trust gift for the other and gives it to them to put in a special place, leaving it untouched for a year. The entire time the gift remains there unopened, Antheia will energize it and bless the people in that relationship, so don’t get tempted to peek. Believe me when I say it’s worth the wait. At the end of the year, don something gold, burn myrrh to create a sacred space in which Antheia dwells, and open the gifts, explaining the significance of the items. I guarantee it’s a present you’ll never forget. – )0( By Patricia Telesco~ >From “365 Goddess” and GrannyMoon’s Morning Feast
