It’s 62F, very foggy and clammy down here at the shop. I had to write the newsletter from here this morning because the darned “d” key is non-functional on the home computer! It was sudden, too, must have happened during the day yesterday, because it was fine in the morning, but when I tried to type when I got home, whoa nellie!
Yesterday was long & tiring. I was on my feet a lot since we had a lot of customers in. Most everyone was browsing, but one family out for a fun time on the beach really brightened things for me. They were all set up, but for a kite & a triple handful of honey sticks and I suggested some more sweets from the Chocolate Frog. They were in beach clothes, but with parkas tied aroun thier waists & so very happy. That’s what makes this business so much fun!
Tempus took off noon-ish and got back around 8pm. We were closed up, all but for locking the door, but his boss from the paper route stopped by to give him some more info for the morning and slowed us down a bit more, since we had to go track address that down before stopping at Ray’s for some rolls for supper.
__enly ha no _ that my keyboar woul type! What the hey?” was what I typed at home!
Well…. I after fighting that one awhile and typing replies to people with no “d”‘s in ’em, (do you ever think about how many “d”‘s are in what you type? No past tense!) I gave up and played games until we were done with supper….which was brats with extra cheese and pickle on the rolls and a lovely salad and then read until I fell asleep.
Today we’re both at the shop. Tempus is going to run over to the Moose in a bit to check to see what’s up with the OCPPG Saturday space. Leslie (Chocolate Frog) thinks it might just be stalled on someone’s desk.
BTW, they’re talking about taking up the space just south of their shop for a coffee pod stop. That sounds awesome to me! We talked about that this morning for a few minutes and also about the Labor Day exhibition.
So, right now, Tempus is trying to see about putting up some magnets for the flags so that I can put ’em up and down myself. We’re experimenting. I’m hoping to get in a little sewing time because I got the God and Goddess pillow fabrics in! He had a bank deposit to take and possibly an order or so needs to get done.
Today’s feast is Sproshinki. This Slavic holiday celebrates the end of haymaking. People feast and hold contests, many of which are athletic is nature, but others are more like our tradition of County Fairs. One of my Babicka’s uncles regularly won the village competition for who could fork and throw a haybale the highest.
Today’s Feast is also for Vesta, Keeper of the Flame. It’s also Assumption Day, the day that the Virgin Mary was taken to heaven, which means that it is also sacred to all the forms of the Great Mother. For Vesta, light 6 red candles and burn herbs for your intent in a hearth fire. For the Virgin, light white. Give thanks to the Great Mother Goddess for your life, your family, your friends and our world.
Today’s Plant – Maidenhair Fern is cultivated for use in gardens, but out here on the coast you can’t walk past a stand of trees without seeing it. Our variety is Adiantum Pedatum, (northern maidenhair, five-fingered fern) most often , but others of the aidantums get mixed in, too. – Feminine, Venus, Water– This represents the physical presence of the Divine Feminine, much as the Sword Fern represents the Divine Masculine. To get more in touch with this part of your Higher Self and to gain grace and physical beauty (always remembering that true beauty is from within) soak a sprig of this plant in water (…better by moonlight, and it’s a great ritual for a Full Moon) and hang it in your bedroom. This is also helpful for the transition times between life stages, and can even help with becoming pregnant if there are physical difficulties with a woman’s cycles. More here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adiantum_pedatum and on the family grouping here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maidenhair_fern

Some people pass your way.
You may never even know why.
Some people you grow to love
As minutes together slip by.
Some people are always there
To encourage and make you see
That you are someone special
When you feel that cannot be.
Some people are like angels
Encouraging you on each day
They see something that you may not
In a kind word or deed you say.
Some people are ministering angels
Sent straight from heaven above
Just remember to always thank them
When they reach out to you in love
While you’re on the beach this year pick up unusual pieces of driftwood. Add essential oils and use as decorations or as drawer fresheners, or even to toss on the fire. Any dried wood will soak up essential oils.
These also make good gifts for other witches, especially if you have oils that work for protection, for instance, or sight.
You can also tie onto them things like herbs and shells or other found objects, or even little medicine pouches.

Anja’s notes – When you go to add EO’s to the wood use a recycled glass bottle that the wood just fits into. Place the wood in the jar and drip some of the EO on each day until the fragrance is strong, replacing the lid after each addition. If you stick a note on the top as to what it is for, you will reinforce your intention each time you open and close the jar.
