weather Partly SunnyIt’s only 52F, but the sun on the morning mist is making a golden glory of the eastern sky and it looks to be another lovely day. The sparrows were all over the feeder when I came out to the study and then a jay decided that the seed all belonged to him only and kept trying to chase ’em off. They would fly off, but cheekily sneak up and snag some seed when he wasn’t looking and drove him nearly wild.

motif food bunYesterday was such a fun day for me. I got to see some more folks that I haven’t seen for years to catch up. During the day I managed to make a “challenge” piece (challenging another group to do a “gross project” as House Capuchin did) embroider a spool bag and then finish the hem of my coif. Both Marius and I missed out on all the classes that we through to take and didn’t find any of the demos, but he made several dozen fibulae.

motif food olives2On the drive we got attacked *twice* by suicidal deer. The first one hit the car in the driver’s side door despite everything that Marius could do to swerve, but after a moment or two, got up and ran off. The 2nd one he managed to slow enough to let it get across the road.

Tempus had a good day at the shop. He made a needle from a stingray barb in between helping customers and was asleep when I got in.

motif food croissantToday Marius and I are heading for Eugene to a planning meeting for a large event that’s happening there in January. There’s also an Arts & Sciences day after that, rather like our Project Day, that’s going to keep up there into the afternoon, and possibly into the evening.

Tempus will have the shop open and if anyone wants to come in to work on a project all the tools and such are available.

plant pic flower Rhododendron_macrophyllum_biscuit_june_2005Today’s plant is the Rhododendron genus, specifically the wild rhodys that we have out here, the Pacific rhododendron, Rhododendron macrophyllum. Rhodys have native forms in much of the world (not South America or Africa) They are one of the showiest of the flowers with hybrids and cultivars all over the place, including the azaleas which fall into this genus, but there are some that you wouldn’t recognize, having almost no flowers at all! The plant is toxic to many animals and honey made from some of plants will make you ill.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhododendron Our rhodys out here are lovely during their bloom time, when you see a hit of pink here and there along highways and trails and in the woods and then within days drifts and swathes and whole hillsides are pink! It’s a hardy plant, which grows well in disturbed places, particularly areas that were burned over. It will re-grow from the scorched roots!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhododendron_macrophyllum – There aren’t any magickal references to rhododendrons that I’ve found, which doesn’t make any sense, since at least the cultivated ones are all over! Azaleas stand for Temperance in the language of flowers. Yellow rhododendron, native to Siberia, is use for rheumatism, gout and syphilis. My personal uses for them are for glamourie, beauty and outward show, but also for the learning to make these unnecessary by creating inward beauty and serenity. When these flowers are in season I use the fresh ones as a “notice me!” spell.

THE AWESOME AMAZON

I’m a daughter of ice giants,
And an amazon queen;
I carry spears and axes
And am beautiful and lean.

I have many warrior subjects,
And they look at me in awe;
For I’m talented and awesome,
And haven’t any flaw.

My horse can gallop rapid miles
At a time, you’ll see;
In the world there’s no one else
Quite as great as me!

I love to fight and roar and kill
And bite and claw and hack;
And if you believe all that,
I have some flying pigs out back! – © Copyright 09/12/05, Beth Johnson (Mystic Amazon)

motif Silliness SmilieSilliness – Battle Hymn of Term Finals

from Pastor Tim’s CleanLaugh List

Mine eyes have seen the horror of the ending of the term
It has poisoned all my spirits like an apple with a worm
It’s infected all my freedom like an ugly cancer germ
The truth shall soon be known.
Chorus: Failure, failure, degradation, failure, and humiliation,
Failure, failure, academia, the truth shall soon be known.

I have listened to the teachers, but the homework leaves me cold
I have never done assignments although many times been told
I have even missed my classes when I was feeling bold
The truth shall soon be known
Chorus: Failure, failure, degradation, failure, and humiliation,
Failure, failure, academia, the truth shall soon be known.

They are adding all my points up and I haven’t earned but few
In fact, I haven’t even gotten more than one or two
Oh, if I could only find an answer anything to do
The truth shall soon be known.
Chorus: Failure, failure, degradation, failure, and humiliation,
Failure, failure, academia, the truth shall soon be known.

On the lines of every gradebook there is solemn news for me
The worst is yet to come when Financial Aid ignores my plea
So I guess the only answer is to drop my books and flee
The truth shall soon be known.
      Chorus: Failure, failure, degradation, failure, and humiliation,
Failure, failure, academia, the truth shall soon be known.

Well, the end has finally come and I have failed to pass a class
Though the fun and laughter, goofing off was really quite a gas
But I won’t be in the numbers of the capped and gowned mass
The truth was finally shown.
Chorus: Failure, failure, degradation, failure, and humiliation,
Failure, failure, academia, the truth was finally known.
