Minus Tide at 6:10 PM of -1.1 feet.
Yesterday started beautifully, although Tempus had an elbow in my back again. 🙂 How can you complain about a man who makes this? >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> …and then he made me a lovely egg sandwich for lunch, too! …and it looked and smelled so good that I didn’t manage to slow myself down enough to get a picture. 🙂
I was working on blogs and newsletters in the morning. Kyaara put a chicken carcass into the pot (literally) to make a soup and that got worked on in the late afternoon. Tempus worked in the kitchen.
I went out and harvested the last of the fennel seed. We’ll probably get more greens off of the plant and especially the new one that Hatch put in on Tuesday. I also got a bit from the oregano. I wasn’t intending to harvest, just weed, but it was quite a mess, so most of that came up with roots too, and they got replanted in one of the wooden planters.
I started adding things to the chicken broth just after dark: chopped spring onion, chopped mushrooms, chopped celery, a turnip or so that had gotten neglected and an onion, of course. I wanted some garlics and didn’t have any. I got it seasoned and then Tempus got it boxed up and in the fridge after he made burgers
Today I’m going to be at the shop, and also probably down where we’ve been sorting if Tempus manages to stay around. He does have some errands to run, but we’re not sure what-all’s going to be happening beyond that. Our elderly friend got back home last night, but the phone’s rung a couple of times this morning, so I’m not sure.
I know this, but it’s a good write-up of the process…. think about it next time you’re exhausted. http://www.elephantjournal.com/2014/11/the-next-time-youre-feeling-exhausted-stop-ask-yourself-this-one-question/
From a birder magazine. Wouldn’t that be cool to have the bird land on its own picture?
My mother used to recite, when the weather turned to fall, “The goldenrod is yellow, the leaves are turning brown, the trees in the apple orchard, with fruit, are bending down.” Today’s plant is Goldenrod, Solidago Canadensis. A good browse plant, although not shade-tolerant, it is one of the first plants to colonize burned-off areas. In Fukishima it has taken over the rice fields near the wrecked nuclear plant. – Feminine, Venus, Air – Wear a piece of goldenrod to see your future love. Hold a piece in the hand and it will direct you to things you’ve lost or buried treasure. If it blooms by your door without being planted, good fortune will follow. It’s also used in money spells and has the property of survival. Wiki article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solidago_canadensis
Today we’ve got an odd feast. There are several celebrations of “St. Leonard” on this day, but the only saint of this name that I can find doesn’t see to have even the slightest connection to the celebrations! There are a Bavarians who celebrate him with a parade of painted wagons and a whip-cracking contest as a patron saint of drovers. There’s a candle procession in another spot and an historical veneration of St. Leonard by Crusaders. What’s that have to do with this guy? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_of_Noblac

Celtic Tree Month of Ngetal/Reed Oct 28 – Nov 24 – nGéadal – (NYEH-dl) – The term “reed” is used with great imprecision in North America, but it is clear that the reed of the ogham is the common reed (Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steudel). This is a giant grass, with stems as high as 4 m (13 feet). It grows in marshy areas, where it often forms dense stands. Like most other grasses, the vertical stems live only a single year, dying in the autumn and being replaced with new green shoots in the spring. The dead stems rattle and whisper in late autumn winds. Common reed has spread as a weed throughout the world; in North America it is widespread in cooler climates. Common reed is in the Grass family (Poaceae, or Gramineae).
“The Reed Month, is said by some to be most favorable for communication with ancestral spirits and the strengthening of all family ties, with magickal associations with fertility, love, protection, and family concerns. ‘Thin and slender is the Reed. He stands in clumps at the edge of the river and between his feet hides the swift pike awaiting an unsuspecting minnow to come his way. In his thinness the reed resembles arrows that fly, silver-tipped, up into the unknown air to land at the very source that one had searched for all these years. Firing arrows off into the unknown is an expression of the desire to search out basic truths. If you loose off without direction, the place of landing will be random. If the firing off is carried out with the correct conviction, determination and sense of purpose, then the act becomes secondary to the event that comes both before and after the moment.'” Source: Earth, Moon and Sky

Affirmation/Thought for the Day – I believe that claiming to be a spiritual being/light worker, means direct engagement with the power structures that surround us and, altering their directives to suit the whole; from the circumference to the core. This takes tenacity, truly believing in one’s positive impact, and all of the faculties that make a “great soul”.
~ Lerman’s Law of Technology: Any technical problem can be overcome given enough time and ~ money. Corollary: You are never given enough time or money.
Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read. – Groucho Marx

~ Whatever the tradition, years of practice are necessary before an opening occurs and you finally realize the absurdity of trying to achieve anything. This search for truth or enlightenment is the barrier itself that separates us from what we seek. – Dennis Genpo Merzel
MATILDA WHO TOLD LIES, AND WAS BURNED TO DEATH
Matilda told such Dreadful Lies,
It made one Gasp and Stretch one’s Eyes;
Her Aunt, who, from her Earliest Youth,
Had kept a Strict Regard for Truth,
Attempted to Believe Matilda:
The effort very nearly killed her,
And would have done so, had not She
Discovered this Infirmity.
For once, towards the Close of Day,
Matilda, growing tired of play,
And finding she was left alone,
Went tiptoe to the Telephone
And summoned the Immediate Aid
Of London’s Noble Fire-Brigade.
Within an hour the Gallant Band
Were pouring in on every hand,
From Putney, Hackney Downs, and Bow.
With Courage high and Hearts a-glow,
They galloped, roaring through the Town,
“Matilda’s House is Burning Down!”
Inspired by British Cheers and Loud
Proceeding from the Frenzied Crowd,
They ran their ladders through a score
Of windows on the Ball Room Floor;
And took Peculiar Pains to Souse
The Pictures up and down the House,
Until Matilda’s Aunt succeeded
In showing them they were not needed;
And even then she had to pay
To get the Men to go away.
It happened that a few Weeks later
Her Aunt was off to the Theatre
To see that Interesting Play
The Second Mrs. Tanqueray.
She had refused to take her Niece
To hear this Entertaining Piece:
A Deprivation Just and Wise
To Punish her for Telling Lies.
That Night a Fire did break out —
You should have heard Matilda Shout!
You should have heard her Scream and Bawl,
And throw the window up and call
To People passing in the Street —
(The rapidly increasing Heat
Encouraging her to obtain
Their confidence) — but all in vain!
For every time she shouted “Fire!”
They only answered “Little Liar!”
And therefore when her Aunt returned,
Matilda, and the House, were Burned. – Hilaire Belloc (1870-1953), French-born poet, essayist and historian, who became a naturalized British citizen and even served as a Member of Parliament for five years
Anam Cara Spell – Incense of the day: Parsley
The anam cara is the Celtic soul friend. This is someone that loves you unconditionally, either physically or spiritually. Cover a mirror with a scarf or translucent cloth. Light one yellow, one white, and one pink or green candle, and place them on a table beside the mirror. Turn off the remaining lights in the room, and light some cedar incense. Turn the mirror slightly to the left side and greet your anam cara. Imagine that your soul friend is joining you through the mirror and is listening lovingly to you. Speak from the heart, and share all that you need to share. Tell everything to this friend that you are afraid to tell others. Be completely honest. Stop every now and then and be silent, allowing messages to come through. When you are finished, thank your friend and blow out your candles. – By: Kristin Madden, Llewellyn and GrannyMoon’s Morning Feast
Abundance Floor Wash Spell – June 22nd, 2006
Color of the day: Crimson – Incense of the day: Carnation
Ah, the wonderful fields of summer green—symbolic of verdant earth, abundance, the fecundity of Gaia. Try this green-scented floor wash to harvest the abundance of the season. Add two cups fresh basil to a large cauldron of boiling water. Remove the cauldron from heat. Add one ounce of pyrite chips to the cauldron and cover. Set it outside overnight, then strain the liquid. Be careful to remove and save the pyrite for other spells. Add eight drops holy basil essential oil to the liquid. Put a bowl of fine sea salt in the center of the room you are blessing. Clean all surfaces with the abundance floor wash using a natural sea sponge, concentrating on your desires the entire time. Sprinkle some of the fine sea salt on stains as you work. Open the doors and windows if possible so the spirits can aid your work. Good fortune should flow your way. By: Stephanie Rose Bird
A Spell for Truth – April 14th, 2007
Hanukkah is a festival of light that illuminates the darkness—symbolism that is also a metaphor for truth. To discover the truth in any situation, light each of the nine candles on a Hanukkah menorah, or use nine white taper candles on each night for nine nights. As you do so, chant:
Light that makes the darkness flee,
Show the truth I seek to me.
On the ninth night, place some jasmine and the stump of one of the burned down candles under your pillow so you will dream of the truth you seek.
