weather Sunny brightIt’s beautiful! The forecast said, “Abundant Sunshine!” They weren’t kidding. The ocean is very blue and so is the sky. There’s very little breeze. It got chilly last night, 43F, but it’s up to 59F at the moment.

Sundays are always long for me. Tempus got back from his paper route just in time to make coffee and then fall into bed. I got down to the shop and cleaned things up a bit and then the Job Corps bunch were there. We had a good class, starting Lesson 3. The historical re-creation group got going during the afternoon and made and experimented with pins.

motif plant houseplant caladiumTempus and I (and then Marius and Hatch for a bit) were running back and forth, sorting. We didn’t finish. We ran out of light, but a lot is done. We’re mostly down to a few boxes and then sweeping up.

Tempus phone went off several times during the night and I started coughing. Not sure if it’s leftovers from asthma or I’m coming down with a cold. Hoping not the latter, but I was up for quite awhile duirng the late night and then overslept this morning, so this is running late.

motif plant houseplant dieffenbachiaHatch and I are at the shop. I’ve been working with customers and he’s been hauling stuff back and forth. Tempus is off with our elderly friend who spent a couple of days in the hospital again and needs to have errands run.

plant motif big ole daisy…Wow, it’s past noon and I’m still typing! I’ve been working with customers. We’re busy today, probably the lovely weather….

So we have to finish up with that space that was classroom and sorting area and then pull the protections back to the shop. During the afternoon I’m going to be sorting craft supplies into their new spaces and then this evening is the start of our Wicca 101 class. Yes, it’s still ok to just show up tonight. We’ll be starting at 6pm. It’s $45 for the class handout, if you need it to be printed out for you (it costs us that much to print it!) or $15 if you bring a flash drive for an electronic version.

Today’s plant is the Columbine, genus Aquilegia. Found in garden and native species in Oregon, these plants stick their flowers up into the air where they can be admired. 220px-Aquilegia_columbine_magpie_cultivar_2They’re related to aconite and share those qualities of a deadly poisonous plant. The flowers aren’t the problem. It’s the seeds and root.  Columbina means “dove” and Aquila is “eagle” supposedly from the resemblance of the flower either to clustered doves or the spur at the back of the flower to an eagle’s claw. There is such a thing as too much imagination…. – Feminine, Venus, Water – Crush between the hands or wear in a pouch that can be squashed to induce courage and daring. Carry a posy of the flowers to attract love and the seeds can be used as a love perfume when crushed, however the seeds are *very* poisonous, so don’t ingest any! 250px-JumisFestival of Martini, ancient Latvia – From Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia: In ancient Latvia, Martini (Mārtiņi) was the name of a festival, celebrated on November 10, marking the end of the Autumn and the beginning of Winter. The festival marks the transfer from Usins to Martins, two deities of horses. Usins is invoked during the summer, while Martins (see St Martin) is a Winter god. The festival marked the end of the preparations for Winter, such as salting meat and fish, storing the harvest and making preserves. Martini also marked the beginning of masquerading and sledding, among other wintry activities. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C4%81rti%C5%86i and here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Martin%27s_Day

Astro Constellation PegasusBy 8 p.m. now, Great Square of Pegasus stands in its level position very high toward the south. Its right side points far down toward Fomalhaut. Its left side points less far down more or less toward Beta Ceti.
If you have an open view to a dark south horizon, and if you’re no farther astro Piscis_Austrinus fomalhaut.svgnorth than roughly New York or Denver, picture an equilateral triangle with Fomalhaut and Beta Ceti forming its top two corners. Near where the third corner would be is Alpha Phoenicis, or Ankaa, in Phoenix. It’s magnitude 2.4, not very bright but the brightest thing in the area. Have you ever seen a star of Phoenix before?

Celtic Tree Month Reed Phragmites_australis_Schilfrohr wikiCeltic Tree Month of Ngetal/Reed Oct 28 – Nov 24 – nGéadal – (NYEH-dl) – The term “reed” is used with great imprecision in North America, but it is clear that the reed of the ogham is the common reed (Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steudel). This is a giant grass, with stems as high as 4 m (13 feet). It grows in marshy areas, where it often forms dense stands. Like most other grasses, the vertical stems live only a single year, dying in the autumn and being replaced with new green shoots in the spring. The dead stems rattle and whisper in late autumn winds. Common reed has spread as a weed throughout the world; in North America it is widespread in cooler climates. Common reed is in the Grass family (Poaceae, or Gramineae).
arrow celtic tree month reed ngedal“The Reed Month, is said by some to be most favorable for communication with ancestral spirits and the strengthening of all family ties, with magickal associations with fertility, love, protection, and family concerns. ‘Thin and slender is the Reed. He stands in clumps at the edge of the river and between his feet hides the swift pike awaiting an unsuspecting minnow to come his way. In his thinness the reed resembles arrows that fly, silver-tipped, up into the unknown air to land at the very source that one had searched for all these years. Firing arrows off into the unknown is an expression of the desire to search out basic truths. If you loose off without direction, the place of landing will be random. If the firing off is carried out with the correct conviction, determination and sense of purpose, then the act becomes secondary to the event that comes both before and after the moment.'”   Source: Earth, Moon and Sky

ONE DOG

I’m a lean dog, a keen dog, a wild dog and lone,
I’m a rough dog, a tough dog, hunting on my own!
I’m a bad dog, a mad dog, teasing silly sheep;
I love to sit and bay the moon and keep fat souls from sleep.

I’ll never be a lap dog, licking dirty feet,
A sleek dog, a meek dog, cringing for my meat.
Not for me the fireside, the well-filled plate,
But shut door and sharp stone and cuff and kick and hate.

Not for me the other dogs, running by my side,
Some have run a short while, but none of them would bide.
O mine is still the lone trail, the hard trail, the best,
Wide wind and wild stars and hunger of the quest. – ~ Irene McLeod (1891-1968), English poet

Pentacle of ElementsMagick – The Paradox of Our Age by Dr. Bob Moorehead

‘The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.

We’ve learned how to make a living, but not a life. We’ve added years to life not life to years. We’ve been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We’ve done larger things, but not better things. We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We’ve conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We’ve learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete.

Remember, spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side. Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn’t cost a cent.

Remember, to say, “I love you” to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak, and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura which was posted on the internet….

Dear Dr. Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great  deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can.  When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.

When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev.1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev.15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality.  I don’t agree. Can you settle this?

Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my  sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread.  cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev. 24:10-16) Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted disciple and adoring fan,
Aaron
