Daily Stuff 4-16-15 Megiddo

Hi, folks!

sewingSewing time from 3-9pm.

weather Sunny brightIt’s 50F and an hour ago it was closer to 40 than 50. They’re saying today’s high should be 65 or so. The sun is shining brightly in the blue, blue sky and everything is sparkling with dew.

motif plant flower geraniumYesterday, other than getting distracted by a thing about woolen material for sails on medieval ships (that blew my mind, so I asked and next thing I was inundated with links!) I worked on my toy class. I was finally at the point of making equipment lists and setting up templates and instructions. It’s just frustrating and time-consuming, not difficult, but it’s hard to stay focused on something I know how to do in my sleep. Not everyone does, though.

laundryTempus was working on taxes for a big chunk of the day, with some special laundry (bleach loads) getting in the way. He also spent some time in the kitchen.

motif plant flower gardeniaLate in the day I got some chicken cooked and then put away. I left broth and rice going on the stove figuring on cooling it gradually and that also got the last bits that didn’t fit in the freezer boxes.

I had to miss out on esbat. I just was running out of time, so badly! I just kept pecking away at things, finally quitting around midnight. …and no I didn’t get anywhere on the newsletter set-up. I have to try to get some of that today.

motif plant flower gingerToday I’ll be at the shop. Tempus might take a run into Newport to pick up some things at Fred Meyers, but I need to have a list for him if he’s going to. I have to sort out my supplies today, then my sewing student is coming at 3pm and the House Capuchin people at 6:30. Going to be a very full day!

Today’s Plant is the Coast Willow, Salix hookeriana. I’ve been mistaking it for pussy willow ever since I moved out here! Pussy Willows are a subset of the willows which also include osiers (think “wicker” for their uses). They’re all Saliciae from which, salicylic acid, the medicine Aspirin, was derived. Willow magick is Feminine, Moon and Water. Willow wands can be used for healing, to sleep with for more vivid dreams, Drawing Down the Moon, or for protection in underworld journeying.  The Willow will bring the blessings of the Moon upon those who plant it or have it on their property. Willows can be used to bind together witch’s brooms and a forked willow branch is widely used in water witching and dowsing. New Moon magick, creativity, fertility, female rights of passage, inspiration, emotion, binding. Love, Love divination, protection, healing. It is also known as the tree of immortality because of its ability to re grow from a fallen branch in moist ground. These properties apply to all forms of willow, but the Coast Willow has the properties of endurance, tolerance and stubbornness as well. There’s more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org

feast 0416 armageddon-Necho-KnellingStatue_BrooklynMuseumThe Battle of Megiddo was in the 15th century BCE on this date. It was part of a military campaign by Thutmose III to crush a rebellion in Canaan in the 15th century BCE. This is the oldest battle recorded in enough detail to make it “official”. There was a later battle, the one from which we get the word “armageddon” from, where the King of Judah tried to ambush the Egyptian army as they were heading off to fight the Babylonians and got himself killed. This battle is listed in the Bible and several other sources. Armageddon, (comes from Har Megiddo, Megiddo hill), the “last battle” of Christian eschatology, is supposed to take place here, or maybe not….  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armageddon

Celtic Tree Month of Saille/Willow, Apr 15 – May 12 The Willow in the Tree alphabet stands for the female and lunar rhythms of life. She is water-seeking, thriving from preference on the damp margins of lakes and streams or across the low-lying water meadows. Water and the tidal movements of the sea are governed by the pull of the moon. The moon in its monthly rhythms is female, contrasting with the male sun’s daily and yearly turnings. In several ways, the Celts held women in higher regard than we do today. On the material level, women were property owners, and whoever controlled the property controlled the marriage. Women of all types and ages appeared in the Celtic pantheon, the spiritual strength and life-giving qualities given by both female and male recognized equally. There were colleges of Druidesses – learned women and teachers – respected equally for their gifts of see-ship, often expressed through dreams, or night visions.
Magical Associations: Romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magic for women.

Beltane Magick – Studies

Dance before the Bonfire (Beltane) – Ashley Ravenwood, finished 3/8/97

Another summer stretches before us,
fertile and heady
The faeries are out to play
dancing along
with everything and everyone else

Dance!
Dance before the bonfire
and celebrate the brimming fertility
of another year

Let it spill over
and crackle into the fire
Let us be blessed
and let our fruits ripen and be harvested
(not wither and die
nor rot forgotten)

Let us drink thirstily of the nectar of the gods
and feast hungrily upon food, love, and kindness
Let us also feed our wants and desires today
happily and carefree

Let us celebrate the miracle that is existence
and marvel at the wonder that is life:
remembering that the smallest acorn
can become the tallest tree

Let us dance
Dance!
Dance before the bonfire
Dance around the maypole
Dance together, laughing
Dance through life and death and life again
Dance under the budding trees and around the blooming wildflowers, dancing in the wind
Dance as fawns and baby birds and newborn stars all watch, dancing
Dance as the gods smile down upon us, dancing too
Dance before the bonfire!

Beltane Poemhttp://crystalforest3.homestead.com/beltane.html Written by Lady Lissar, jskolnik@cap.gwu.edu

Green
spilt out into the meadows
running into every being
filling us up with spirit
tumbling
the pulsing red life of the earth
in the smoke of the firecircle
i saw my demons scatter to the skies
dissolving into the midnight air
there is nothing but the sun
the moon
in perfect equilibrium
unreal yet grounded
alone in body, full in spirit
love

Beltane Spell
May day is a good time to promote love and happiness in your life. To do so, use pastel-colored candles, as many as possible, and a large bowl of fresh water with flower petals floating in it. Adorn your ritual space with flowers and new leaves, and sing the following verse to the spirits of the holiday:

Queen of the May,
Jack-of-the-Green,
A more joyous time has never been.

Flowers bloom
and children sing,
Fairies bless each river and sacred spring.

All life is joyous
and we revel,
In being healthy, happy, and alive.

The Morris Dancers
Stomp the Earth,
Wakening Gaia with blissful mirth.

Petals abound
in vibrant hue,
Signaling all Earth’s life is born anew.

Blessings flow
all around,
Magic springs underfoot from the ground.

Love and passions
fill the air,
Celebration and revelry is everywhere.

On this day,
My true love come to me; Let us share our hearts in festivity.

Dancers prance
the Maypole round,
Laughter and music freely abound.

Joyousness and reverence mix together now,
Blessing virgin, bird, and cow.

Danu’s Fairy Folk now draw near,
Their laughter and magic is growing clear.

I share this day
with those I love,
Healing Sun streams from above.

Flowers crown
the Queen of the May,
So blessed be this sacred day.
So mote it be. ~Abby Willowroot  )0( Visit Crone’s Corner on Yahoo  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Crones_Corner/
