We’ll be making candles today!
Yesterday was a wonderful day! It started a little frazzled, because I had to fight with the programs to get the headers printed that we wanted to do. Tempus headed down to the shop without me, figuring to put a note on the door and come back when I finally got ’em done (which I did) I got a note when I got on Facebook that a friend from the historical re-creation group was going to stop by. He was in Lincoln City, so we had an hour and then 5 minutes later was in Depoe Bay and then 15 minutes later at the shop. He also saw two clients on the way! Wow… Tempus started talking about trans-warp engines. It’s a new car, but I didn’t think they came *that* new!
…and that was all afternoon! We had a great time discussing projects and crafts and research and then when he had to go, Tempus and I spent another several hours trying to get things done for the day, mostly going through various stock that’s coming in….
Oh! Mortar and Pestle sets! We’re stocked back up and have some *nice* soapstone ones.
Our friend is going to be back today and we’re going to be making candles. If anyone comes in for Herbs or Sewing we’ll do that, too. 🙂
Today’s Plant is Oregon White Oak, Quercus garryana, also called Garry oak, or just Oregon oak. It doesn’t grow well out here on the coast, although supposedly there are some specimens. I’ve never seen one out here, but they’re *all* over the Willamette Valley, many of them hosting our local mistletoe,Phoradendron flavescens. This is the same relation of tree and herb that gave rise to the legends of the Golden Bough in Europe, although these are *far* different species. – Masculine, Sun ,Fire, Dagda, (Jupiter, Thor, Pan) – Use in magicks for protection, money, potency, fertility – Burn the bark to draw off illness, carry and piece of the for luck and protection, acorns are used to tip male power wands and worn as necklaces by some priests and can be carried to increase fertility and male potency to preserve health and long life. Place in windows to ward off lightning. Plant an acorn at the new moon if you need money. Fires of oak wood draw off illness. – Wiccaning or Seining – Wiccaning or Seining is the ceremony where we welcome a new child to the world. Holly water is used for girls and Oak for boys. Make by a tablespoon of powdered leaf brew in 1 cup of very hot water for about 10 minutes, then adding that to 2 cups of cold water. Sprinkle or wash baby with it. Robigalia, held in ancient Rome on this day, was a sacrifice of a dog to prevent a particular type of wheat-rust mildew from occurring in the new grain crops. It also included chariot races, a communal meal and other typical observances. Robigus was the personification of the mildew, so needed to be sacrificed to, although dogs were usually sacred to the underground/afterlife deities, such as Hecate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robigalia

Saturday, April 25, 4:55 p.m. PDT – First Quarter Moon – The First Quarter Moon rises around noon and sets around 2:30 a.m. It dominates the evening sky.
Juno – Sunday, April 26, just before moonset. Just before moonset, look for 9th magnitude asteroid Juno just above the moon. This will be around 2 a.m. in eastern North America. The moon will occult Juno as seen from eastern Asia, Melanesia, and Polynesia. Credit: Starry Night Software
Jupiter shines closer to the upper left of the Moon this evening. As the night grows late, the sky turns to put Jupiter directly above the Moon. Although they may look close together, Jupiter is nearly 2,000 times farther away — and 40 times larger in diameter.
Mercury (about magnitude –0.6) is having a fine apparition in evening twilight. Look for it very far to the lower right of Venus. Mercury gets a little higher every day, but it’s also fading.

Celtic Tree Month of Saille/Willow, Apr 15 – May 12
Runic half-month of Mannaz/ Man, April 14-28 A time when the archetypal reality of the human condition should be meditated upon. Nigel Pennick, The Pagan Book of Days, Destiny Books, Rochester, Vermont, USA, 1992, 1992 Runic half-month of Laguz/ Lagu, 4/29-5/13 Representing the flowing and mutable forces of water, Lagu symbolizes life, growth and waxing power of this time of year.

Celtic Tree Month of Saille/Willow, Apr 15 – May 12 – The Willow in the Tree alphabet stands for the female and lunar rhythms of life. She is water-seeking, thriving from preference on the damp margins of lakes and streams or across the low-lying water meadows. Water and the tidal movements of the sea are governed by the pull of the moon. The moon in its monthly rhythms is female, contrasting with the male sun’s daily and yearly turnings. In several ways, the Celts held women in higher regard than we do today. On the material level, women were property owners, and whoever controlled the property controlled the marriage. Women of all types and ages appeared in the Celtic pantheon, the spiritual strength and life-giving qualities given by both female and male recognized equally. There were colleges of Druidesses – learned women and teachers – respected equally for their gifts of see-ship, often expressed through dreams, or night visions.
Magical Associations: Romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magic for women.

Therapy can be done to the self. Understanding is therapy. Love is the ultimate therapy. Therapists, teachers, and gurus can help, but only for a limited time. The direction is inward, and sooner or later the inward path must be trod alone. Although in reality you are never alone. Measure time, if you must, in lessons learned, not in minutes or hours or years. You can cure yourself in five minutes if you come to the proper understanding. Or in fifty years. It is all the same thing. – Brian Weiss MD.
