It’s 56 and a bit drippy at times. Only about .02 inches since midnight, but drops are getting flung from the edges of the porch roof by the gusty breeze on a random basis. Interesting thunderstorms in the valley last night from the sound of it. People kept commenting on Facebook.
Yesterday was a very long day and I slept way more last night than usual! My morning started with Tempus standing over me with a cup of coffee and telling me it was already 9am! Oof…. So we scooted out the door and there was one of the Job Corps group already standing by the door. We had a good lesson and a discussion about grief.
After the bus came for her I got to work on some of the House Capuchin projects, tracing the wood cutout toys first and then getting back to work on my rag dolls. Tempus headed up to the house to get some chores done there and then Marius showed up in a new truck!
He did a lovely job of hornswoggling me, too. When he pulled up, I was in back, so I didn’t see him get out of it, nor did I see the temporary tag when I came out because it was out of sight behind the head rest. He kept complaining about the bastiche who parked in front of the shop and left the vehicle. 🙂 He finally ‘fessed up to it about an hour and a half later and we all trooped out to examine the new wheels. 🙂
Today Tempus is at the shop. He headed down there an hour ago, already. I’m feeling not-so-hot, so I’m still home. I slept from 11pm to 5:30am and then from 6:15 to well past 10am, so I shouldn’t still be tired, but I’m having trouble getting moving. I’m going to get this done and catch up on things and then see how I feel.
A Ken Gagne pictures of a gold finch on 5/23/15. His comment was “Ouch!”
Today is World No Tobacco Day, a day of abstinence from the products, intended to showcase the negatives of tobacco use. Ashtrays are often cleaned and filled with fresh flowers. In my case, although there usually aren’t any ashtrays around me, I add flowers to those that I see in honor of my beloved grandfather, who died of lung cancer from a pack-a-day habit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_No_Tobacco_Day
Today’s Plant is Yarrow, Achillea millefolium. This plant is often called woundwort or nosebleed because of its clotting properties and is used for fevers and infections because it has salicylates (aspirin) in it. The young leaves can be eaten and it becomes and aid to vision-work. It’s easy to grow and makes a great companion plant. We have mostly the pacifica and californica varieties out here. – Feminine, Venus, Water. Exorcism – Wear to protect – hold in hand to stop fear – hang over bed for lasting love – carry for love and bring friends and contact with relatives. Flower – Feminine, Venus, Water – flowers made into tea for psychic power, or Exorcism, protection. Can be added to handfasting magicks. More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yarrow

Venus (almost) lines up with Pollux and Castor on Monday and Tuesday evenings, June 1st and 2nd. (The blue 10° scale is about the width of your fist at arm’s length.) Venus (magnitude –4.4, at the Gemini-Cancer border) is the brightest point in the west during and after twilight. It doesn’t set in the west-northwest until more than an hour after dark. In a telescope Venus is just about at dichotomy: “half-moon” phase.
On the other side of the sky, the almost-full Moon shines left (east) of Saturn, which is just past opposition. Watch through the night as the Moon draws farther away from Saturn. Although they look like neighbors, Saturn is actually 3,500 times more distant.
The nova in the Sagittarius Teapot, more than two months old, continues to vary between about magnitude 4.5 and 6.6, though with a general downward trend. As of May 29th it was about 5.9. See article with charts and a link to an up-to-date light curve.

Celtic Tree Month of Huath/Hawthorn, May 13 – Jun 9 – I am fair among flowers – Color: Purple – Class: Peasant – Letter: H – Meaning: Being held back for a period of time – Hawthorn – Like willows, hawthorns have many species in Europe, and they are not always easy to tell apart. All are thorny shrubs in the Rose family (Rosaceae), and most have whitish or pinkish flowers. The common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) and midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata (Poiret) DC.) are both widespread. They are common in abandoned fields and along the edges of forests. Both are cultivated in North America, as are several native and Asiatic hawthorns. Curtis Clark

VISITING AUNT MARGIE
It all seemed too big!
The noise and exhaust of traffic,
Crowds on the sidewalk
Horns honking, people talking.
The buildings loomed overhead
Some extra tall with lots of glass.
I’m transported back to the fifties,
Visiting Atlanta with my parents.
Shoe shopping with Aunt Margie,
Trying on Buster Brown shoes
In a Mary Jane style for church.
My favorite was a comic book shop,
It was on a corner with doors open
And had 3-D comic books!
Brenda Starr was one of my favorites
But I wanted to buy them all.
Everything was loud and large there
And I was only in second grade.
It was a big adventure for me…
(We lived in a very small town).
The streets were narrow
With lots of impatient drivers
And new scents, crowded shops;
But I was safe with loved ones. – © Copyright 9/30/2008, by Beth Clare Johnson, (Mystic Amazon)
June’s energies are focused on socialization and activity. It is a capricious month, filled with young love, romance, and the companionship of good friends. Any magic aimed at enhancing one’s relationships, communication skills, and the personal energy level necessary for maintaining both will be augmented by working during this month.
June Moon Names: Mead Moon, Moon of Horses, Lovers’ Moon, Strong Sun Moon, Honey Moon, Aerra Litha (Before Litha), Brachmanoth (Break Month), StrawberryMoon, Rose Moon, Moon of Making Fat. in great numbers.

During a test I was administering, I noticed that one of my married students, who was quite pregnant, kept rubbing her side. After class, before she left, I asked her, “Are you okay?” I noticed you were holding onto your side.”
“Oh, I’m fine,” she answered. “It’s just that my baby was pushing his foot up and down my ribs, and it hurt a little.”
“Well, that’s good,” I said, feeling relieved.
“Yeah,” she continued. “It’s strange. He normally sleeps during your class.”
