weather Sunny brightIt’s 60F and bright sunshine with a nice breeze. I need to harvest roses this morning again.

plant motif rowan treeYesterday was long. We didn’t have any youngsters for the Wicca 101 class. We’ll see whether they come to Litha, but we’ll be there early for the next few weeks at least. We were actually open at 10am and I 060715 Ndlcs4spent the morning making earrings, or rather getting frustrated making earrings. 🙂 I would get partway through and metal fatigue the pin or I would drop something or I would crimp a loop too small. Argh! Well, I ended up with 7 pairs, finally. I have to do tarot earrings today… at least get started on those….

plant motif strawflower helichrysum flowerTempus was working on some boxes that we’re setting up for gifts. They’re going to get a printed picture applied to the top and 060715 Sachetthen varnished, but the tops had to be cleaned, first. Various projects got worked on during the afternoon, some of which are shop stuff, needlecases, mostly. A fellow who has been in before shopping joined us for most of the afternoon and we talked quite a bit about what we’re doing.

Plant motif PlaintainWe finally quit around 060715 PouchLg7pm and headed home. Tempus and I fell into bed, just crashed, but I was up again around 9pm and processing pictures. Tempus got up around 10:30 and made us a snack and then we crawled back into bed.

Plant motif PrimroseToday I have harvesting and the herb processing to do, the tarot earrings and then I want to work on the display pincushions for Marius’ pins and needles. Tempus has some errands to run and then to clean up in the office space.

Today ‘s feast is that of Bona Mens in the old Roman Empire. Mens is the personification of the “good mind” and had a temple on the Capitoline Hill. It’s long gone and there were apparently no records made of what it looked like. There’s a wiki article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mens

220px-Delphinium_pavonaceumToday’s Plant is the local larkspursdelphinium trollifolium, 240px-Delphinium_trolliifolium_3633and delphinium pavonaceum (which the Wiki article says is confined to the  Valley, but I’ve collected out here….) are pretty flowers in shades of white, blue and purple. They’re called delphiniums (dolphins) after the shape of the nectary. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphinium_trolliifolium and here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphinium_pavonaceum  Other names are Larksheal and Staggerweed – Feminine, Venus, Water – The flowers frighten away venomous creatures and ghosts. Sprinkle between your eyes and a Litha fire to keep your sight clear. Use in rituals to call upon Dolphin energy.

~  True friendship is seen through the heart, not through the eyes. – Unknown
~  Tomorrow’s life is too late. Live today. – Martial (I would add: Enjoy today. Love today. Find something to be happy about, TODAY!)
~  Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. – John Adams (1735-1826) US President (2)
~  Try and fail, but don’t fail to try – Stephen Kaggawa

It is a well known fact that those people who most want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. – Douglas Adams in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

Heron Bar Litha 2013Litha Magick – Poem

“If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumbered here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream,
Gentles, do not reprehend:
If you pardon, we will mend:
And, as I am an honest Puck,
If we have unearned luck
Now to ‘scape the serpent’s tongue,
We will make amends ere long;
Else the Puck a liar call;
So, good night unto you all.
Give me your hands, if we be friends,
And Robin shall restore amends.”
William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream
