57F and quite overcast although it’s been getting brighter. It’s windy down by the water already, but not some much up here. The occasional gust goes through, but that’s about all.
Yesterday was not the most fun day I’ve ever had. I sat down to work on the newsletters and was about 3/4 of the way through when the computer froze. Of course I lost data and had to find bits and pieces again. It was almost 7pm by the time I actually finished. I’ve been waiting for a Spoonflower order to come in and discovered that it had been delivered, according to the PO. Turns out it was in Tempus car…from the day Art died…. <sigh>
I got some more books put away, emptied a whole box! I found a handful of books for the shop and some craft supplies, as well. I also managed to find a set of laundry that had gotten stashed in a box for some reason.
So today I’m going to be by myself at the shop until late. Tempus is going to be reachable by phone if someone wants a reading, though. He’s going to try to get our yard cleaned up and get stuff ready so we can trade places tomorrow and I can cook.
Today’s feast is *not* the Rosalia, it is one of the feasts of Fortuna, but Wiki has come up with a new article that has a *lot* more information on this including the uses of not just roses, but violets and other flowers and how the Rosalia developed into the Christian feasts that are similar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosalia_(festival) Fortuna was the personification of luck and has survived through the Middle Ages and even into the present in the Wheel of Fortune card in the Tarot. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortuna
Today’s Plant is Coltsfoot, Petasites frigidus var. palmatus. One of the best cough remedies out there, this is often smoked to help cases of chronic bronchitis and asthma. It is also made into cough syrups often combined with horehound. This is another plant where the medicinal and magickal uses seem to go together. Feminine, Venus, water, Magickal uses – Add to love sachets and use in spell of peace and tranquility. The leaves, when smoked, can cause visions, and aid with breathing problems. .More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petasites_frigidus

It’s just 10 days to official summer, but can you still see cold-weather Capella? As the stars come out, Capella still twinkles low in the northwest (if you live at a latitude north of mid-Florida). Start by spotting the Big Dipper >>>> very high in the northwest as early as you can in twilight. It’s hanging bowl down. Drop a line down from the Dipper’s bowl to find Capella.
Mercury is well placed in the eastern sky at dawn. It is better placed for observers in the Southern Hemisphere.

Celtic Tree Month of Duir/Oak, Jun 10 – Jul 7 – The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word “robust”). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Wedding Gift Basket – (For Litha) – http://members.aol.com/ivycleartoes/wedding.html
- Small basket
- Craft miniatures of birds and butterflies
- False flowers and fruits
- Any other natural wedding gift type items you can think of
- Simply place all items aesthetically inside the basket, perhaps using it as a decoration for inside your feather wreath if you made one.
- It is very tasteful to wind white flower garlands around the handle of the basket, and to perhaps even paint it yourself or, if you are talented in that area, to weave your own basket.
To use this in a ritual, every item to be placed in the basket must have some kind of symbolic meaning. You can solemnly put each item in and simultaneously make a wish for the union of the deities, and pray for Their happiness; also it can be used as a parallel for any relationships in your life that you wish to succeed.
