Sunshine is pouring through my study window. It felt damp when I first got up, but the windows are wide open and I’m not even getting chilly. Actually, it’s 60F and absolutely still as far as breeze goes.
Yesterday was long, but other than it being our Friday, it went pretty well. I ended up doing a couple of readings and a couple of counseling sessions. The roses I harvested in the morning finally got finished after it was time to close, but I got ’em done. Tempus was still sanding on some of the little animals.
Today I’m going to be working on research again. I’m trying to get the section on hobby-horses written up and I’ll also work on newsletter stuff. I think I remember that one of the files was getting empty. Tempus is figuring to work in his garage shop, trying to get it cleaned up after he rakes the area around the plum tree, getting the last of the pits pulled out, so we don’t end up with 16 million little trees next spring. 🙂 We also have laundry and kitchen stuff to catch up on. It’s really never ending. I’m also going to want to pick berries when I have the oomph. 🙂
Today’s Feast is that of Damo, daughter of Pythagoras. The story goes that he willed her all his writings and knowing their worth, she taught from them instead of selling them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damo_(philosopher) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythagoreanism
Today’s plant is Wild ginger, Asarum caudatum – This is a different plant from the one usually used in magick, but has only slightly different properties. This is related to black pepper, kava and birthwort. –Masculine, Mars, Fire – This is used for “heating up” spells. While standard ginger is used in money, love, success and power spells, Wild Ginger is mostly used to add power, rather than on its own.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asarum_caudatum

Arcturus shines very high above the crescent Moon at nightfall. Arcturus is the brightest star of Bootes, the Herdsman. The main stars of Bootes form a narrow, slightly bent kite that currently extends up from Arcturus (where the tail would be tied on). The kite is about two fists at arm’s length tall.
Saturn (magnitude +0.3, in Libra upper right of the head of Scorpius) is highest in the south in twilight. It moves lower in the southwest after dark. Lower left of Saturn by 13° twinkles fiery orange Antares, not quite as bright. Delta Scorpii is the star roughly midway between them.

Celtic Tree Month of Tinne/Holly, Jul 8 – Aug 4, Tinne (CHIN-yuh), holly – The holly (Ilex aquifolium L.) is a shrub growing to 10 m (35 feet) in open woodlands and along clearings in forests. Hollies are evergreen, and stand out in winter among the bare branches of the deciduous forest trees that surround them. Hollies form red berries before Samhain which last until the birds finish eating them, often after Imbolc. The typical “holly leaf” is found on smaller plants, but toward the tops of taller plants the leaves have fewer spiny teeth. Hollies are members of the Holly family (Aquifoliaceae). The common holly is often cultivated in North America, as are hybrids between it and Asiatic holly species.
Graves (1966) and others are of the opinion that the original tinne was not the holly, but rather the holm oak, or holly oak (Quercus ilex L.). This is an evergreen oak of southern Europe that grows as a shrub, or as a tree to 25 m (80 feet). Like the holly, the holm oak has spiny-edged leaves on young growth. It does not have red berries, but it does have red leaf “galls” caused by the kermes scale insect; these are the source of natural scarlet dye. Holm oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America.

When I go away from you
The world beats dead
Like a slackened drum.
I call out for you against the jutted stars
And shout into the ridges of the wind.
Streets coming fast,
One after the other,
Wedge you away from me,
And the lamps of the city prick my eyes
So that I can no longer see your face.
Why should I leave you,
To wound myself upon the sharp edges of the night? …..The Taxi by Amy Lowell (1874-1925)
Today is an auspicious day to honor the birthdays of the Egyptian gods Isis, Osiris, Nephthys, Set, and Horus the Elder. Purify yourself with hyssop and sea or Epsom salts in a morning bath. Wear white or blue cotton or linen clothing and an ankh. Offer bread and beer on your altar before images of the gods. Burn kyphi incense, and anoint five white tea lights with jasmine and nephthys. When the Moon rises, light the candles and incense and say the following:
Gods of Heliopolis I honor you.
Born this season,
You are the light of the Sun and the Moon,
The fertility of the earth,
The wisdom of the ancients,
And the magic of the gods.
Live em hotep, neteru.
Live in peace, gods and goddesses.
Live em Ma’at, neteru.
Live in truth, gods and goddesses,
Sacred of Egypt.
Bless my life with peace and truth.
