Last night’s fog was pretty amazing. Tempus says it was pretty thick while he was on his paper route. I was up around 4am and it was very bright in the bathroom from light coming through the skylight so I went out to look. No, it wasn’t moon. I’m not sure where the light was from although it was orange over the main part of the city, so I’m guessing that it was just all reflected. It’s sunny, now, although it looks like a fair amount of thin cloud up there. …Yup, computer says, “scattered clouds at 300 feet”. Hmm…. It’s 65F, almost the forecast high and there’s a nice breeze.
Yesterday was very busy for the both of us. I harvested on the way to the car in the morning and grabbed the bags of fennel and lovage seed. That was my first task in the morning, to set all that up for drying. It took awhile. Tempus was out running errands: bank, PO, etc.

I had a long talk with Violet about OCPPG
and her Sunday morning workshop and then buckled down to the sewing that needed to be done. I’m within a few sewing machine sessions of being finished with enough tarot and pendulum pouches for the year and then I start on altar cloths. Maybe I’ll get to ritual robes and be able to finally re-stock. All of the suppliers that I had when I first opened are gone. The economic downturn wiped ’em out, I guess.
<<<<<<< goodies in the mail <<<<<<<<
During the afternoon I also finished a linen headgear set. I’m planning on wearing it on Sunday (since that’s the House Capuchin potluck) so I might have a picture, then.
Marius was there in the evening and I hemmed about 14 miles of skirt while we talked about all kinds of things including a major sewing project for an event this winter. The skirt is a lovely floofy black one, a tiered skirt that I made too long, so it needed to be hemmed up. I want it for later in the year after it cools down. It’s been sitting in a box for several years and I only just found it.
Today Tempus headed for the shop late because he had to go deliver a paper that he’s sure he didn’t miss. I’m home trying to finish up getting the scaled down OCPPG set up.
….and because it’s 9/11…. a dear friend wrote this:
“Fourteen years ago, too many people died simply because they were at work, on an airplane, or meeting someone.
Fourteen years ago, too many people died because some others couldn’t accept that they were different in some way.
Fourteen years ago, too many of us mourned those who were murdered for no real reason.
Hate gets us nothing. Religious zealotry of ANY faith gets us nothing.
Fourteen years later, we’re still fighting hate and zealotry.
It’s one thing to use guns in war. It’s another to practice forgiveness and acceptance.
I’m not saying war is a bad thing. I was excited like the rest of the U.S. when Bin Laden was killed. And I am grateful to each and every soldier who has taken up arms to defend my family.
But I honor those who died every day by refusing to hate someone I don’t know because of their nationality, faith, sexuality, political leanings, or race.
I encourage you to do the same.” Kate M. Collins
Ok, Samhain’s coming!

Today’s Plant is Gillyflower, Clove Pink, Carnation, all names that are used for, Dianthus caryophyllus. This plant has been hybridized to the point where the basic flower and the florist’s varieties (which are all that show up in the article….) don’t look a bit alike, although they keep the scent. These also make a yummy tea. Even a single flower in a cup of green tea is enough! There is a lot of symbolism to the flower, depending on which culture you’re in, although they generally are thought to mean love, fascination, and distinction. They were used particularly in crowns of victory in ancient Europe. – Masculine, Sun, Fire, Jupiter – All-purpose protection, in healing for strength and energy (so perfect for hospital bouquets!) and for healing of broken hearts, add red, rather than pink blossoms. White are occasionally used for the protection of children or those who travel. Dried petals make a great addition to sachets, potpourris or incense since they strengthen the properties of other plants and herbs.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dianthus_caryophyllus

How soon after sunset can you identify the big Summer Triangle? Vega, its brightest star, is nearly straight overhead (for skywatchers at mid-northern latitudes). Deneb is the first bright star to Vega’s east-northeast. Altair shines less high in the southeast.
Thin-Moon challenge: Saturday’s dawn offers a chance to try to set your record old-Moon sighting. Look just above the horizon low in the east as dawn grows bright, as shown here. Bring binoculars or a telescope. If you detect the Moon, note the time. Then see how close this is to the time of new Moon: 2:41 a.m. Sunday morning September 13th Eastern Daylight Time (6:41 September 13th UT).
Venus (magnitude –4.7) climbs into clearer view in the east every morning. It a telescope it’s a beautiful crescent, especially if you follow it rising higher into thinner air after sunrise. Venus is shrinking as it pulls farther away from Earth around the Sun, even as its crescent thickens.
Zodiacal light – Friday, Sept. 11–Thursday, Sept. 24, before dawn – The best time in the year to see the dim glow of the zodiacal light in the pre-dawn eastern sky, the light reflected from millions of interplanetary particles. It lies along the ecliptic. (Old pic, Planets are out of position)
Goddess Month of Mala runs from 9/6 – 10/2
Celtic Tree Month of Muin/Vine Sep 2 – 29
Runic half-month of Raidho/Rad 8/29-9/12 – Denotes the channeling of energies in the correct manner to produce the desired results. Nigel Pennick, The Pagan Book of Days, Destiny Books, Rochester, Vermont, USA, 1992, p. 102 Runic half-month of Kenaz/Ken/Kebo – September 13-27 – Ken represents a flaming torch within the royal hall, so it’s the time of the creative fire – the forge where natural materials are transmuted by the force of the human will into a mystical third, an artifact that could not otherwise come into being. The positive aspects of sexuality that are immanent in Freya and Frey come into play at this time. Nigel Pennick, The Pagan Book of Days, Destiny Books, Rochester, Vermont, USA, 1992, p. 102

Celtic Tree Month of Muin/Vine Sep 2 – 29 – Muin – (MUHN, like “foot”), vine – The grape (Vitis vinifera L.) is a vine growing as long as 35 m (115 feet), in open woodlands and along the edges of forests, but most commonly seen today in cultivation, as the source of wine, grape juice, and the grape juice concentrate that is so widely used as a sweetener. European grapes are extensively cultivated in North America, especially in the southwest, and an industry and an agricultural discipline are devoted to their care and the production of wine. Grapes are in the Grape family (Vitaceae).

About Dire Prophecies
There is a lot of disaster energy
around these days…
means without a star…
or separated from the stars…
Volcanoes and storms are a-brewin’
Indigenous peoples cry warning
Planets are alligning
Mother Gaia’s rumbling shifting
The Veil is thinning thinning
To make an end
To make a new beginning
Winter Crone is shaking out Her pot
For a new spell of Transformation…
Because of this I feel
It is pivotal
To visualize the best that we can see
Make pictures of what we wish to be
Emphasize the goodness that we are
(Don’t let them take away our certainty!)
-and reconnect at last with the stars…
Powerful God/desses are we
Together we can make things come to be
What new reality do you want to see?
Oh let the change, I pray, come gently gently
An easy birth, a new child come to play
In perfect love and perfect trust
up from the ashes, up from the dust
our new tribe coming on freedom’s wings
“with harm to none” our spirits sing
So my soulkin hear my plea
And visualize the best that you can see
Make pictures of what you wish to be
Emphasize the goodness that you are
And help us reconnect us all
Back to the stars.

GODDESSES OF PEACE RITUAL & INVOCATION
You will need:
A White Candle for Spirit/Goddess.
A Pink Candle for any women you ask for blessings on, including yourself if you are female.
A Blue Candle for male(s) you ask for blessings on.
Any gemstones that represent peace and harmony to you, such as blue lace agate, moonstone, or if you like, heart colors such as pink and green stones. Selenite is an excellent spiritual stone and there are many others to choose from.
Incense such as Sandalwood or another highly spiritual one.
Pictures or statues of goddesses of peace/tranquility if you have them. You can print out small photos that you find from Google or Yahoo Images.
Blessing Oils, you may add glitter to them if you like. If you don’t have them, then any sweet-smelling oil or plain virgin olive oil is always appropriate.
A pen or pencil, and a peace of paper.
Cast your Circle. Ask any Guides, Guardians, and Powers of Light that you wish to join you in your Circle. Call upon the four regular Elements and Akasha/Spirit, the fifth Element. Ask them to join and protect your Circle.
Take a few minutes to commune with the Higher Powers, then write down anything you feel that you can personally do to bring peace and harmony into your community, groups, friendships, and the world.
Dress (Oil) your candles. Light them, and as you do, feel Light surrounding you and filling you with Peace, Harmony and Compassion. Also feel the light of the crystals that you have put on your altar giving out their healing light. Chant the Invocation below THREE times.
GODDESSES OF PEACE INVOCATION
Goddesses of Peace…
Pax, Mary, Quan Yin, Tara
Gaia, Mother of the Earth,
We call upon you with respect.
Mothers of Compassion,
Mothers of Peace and Mercy,
We ask for your wise counsel.
Please help us not to give in
To the everyday stresses
And resentments that assail us.
Help us connect with your Light
And the love and grace you bring.
Blessed Mothers, we thank you
For the nurturing and blessings
That you pour out upon us every day;
Grant that our lives also be a blessing. – © September 17, 2008, Beth Clare Johnson (Mystic Amazon)
When you are through chanting the invocation three times, then dismiss your Circle, thanking the Higher Powers and everyone that you invited into your Circle. Then go to your door, open it, and say or shout, “SO MOTE IT BE!” Then come in, let your candles burn out safely. Relax, eat a bit to ground if you like You may listen to soft music or do some form of divination, as you will be relaxed and full of Light. ~Beth Clare
