Daily Stuff 9-15-15 Greater Eleusinian Mysteries

Hi, folks!

Rose of the Sea Logo 2013Mabon Open Circle for the Sabbat is scheduled for 9/23 (Wed.) at 7pm. Samhain is scheduled for Friday 10/30.

It’s cloudy, 61F and looking like rain.

091415 Bread<<<<<<<<<<< The delicious pumpkin & seed bread that Marius bought for our potluck on Sunday. It has pumpkin bits in the dough, as well as seeds on top! It was really good toasted with butter. <<<<<<<

Yesterday Tempus headed out a bit late. We were having trouble getting moving in the morning. Well, it was our Friday! I got to work on the paperwork stuff that had been bugging me and managed to get most of it under control by 5pm. I went down to the shop (nice to have my car functional again!) for 091415 Pincushionabout an 1/2 hour to talk to Debbie and a friend and get a few pictures, then came back up and got back to work.

>>>>>>>>>>> more pincushion filling >>>>>>>>>>>

I had made a lentil and root vegetable dish for Sunday’s potluck and had some for a late afternoon nibble with a tortilla. I made the happy discovery that sour cream makes it *amazing*!

Tempus had been working on the craft drawer rack off and on between customers all day and has the last of the runners glued in place.

091415 Rack5We had leftovers from our Chinese dinner the other day as supper and then turned in and read until late.

<<<<<<<<<<< craft rack <<<<<<<<<<<

It’s starting to look like rain today. I’m not sure what Tempus is doing today (he’s making coffee right now), but we need to talk to our renters about getting the leak fixed and do some chores. I want to start setting up the week’s newsletters, too.

plant poppy wheatGreater Eleusinian Mysteries – This day was the climax of the festival when initiates were shown an ear of wheat as the symbol of death/life/rebirth. The festival went on for many days with special events, sacrifices, rituals and processions. More information here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleusinian_Mysteries#Greater_Mysteries . The Mysteries were secret and initiates simply didn’t write about them, so all we know are the bits and scraps that were public. Eleusis was where the Oomphalos, the belly-button stone of the World. was situated.

plant red elderberryToday’s plant is Red ElderberrySambucus racemosa. It’s a large shrub that has white flower clusters in the spring and red berry clusters late in the summer. Planet: Venus, Element: Water Deity: Hel, Holda, The White Lady, Magickal properties: Exorcism, Prosperity, Banishment and Healing  The leaves and berries are used for protection and in breaking spells that were cast against you or to undo spells of evil intent. Growing an elder in your garden will protect your property from misfortune and harm. In Europe they planted elder in cemeteries to keep away the evil spirits. Elder wands can be used to drive out evil spirits or thought forms, and music on panpipes or flutes of elder have the same power as the wand.  Elder should not be cut without first making a prayer, and don’t burn Elder in fear of bringing about ill-luck. “Elder is the Lady’s Tree, burn it not or cursed ye be.” More here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sambucus_racemosa and here:http://www.thegoddesstree.com/trees/Elder.htm

Rune Runic Month 18 Kenaz Kebo KenRunic half-month of Kenaz/Ken/Kebo – September 13-27 – Ken represents a flaming torch within the royal hall, so it’s the time of the creative fire – the forge where natural materials are transmuted by the force of the human will into a mystical third, an artifact that could not otherwise come into being. The positive aspects of sexuality that are immanent in Freya and Frey come into play at this time. Nigel Pennick, The Pagan Book of Days, Destiny Books, Rochester, Vermont, USA, 1992, p. 102

A Usual Prayer

According to Thy will: That this day only
I may avoid the vile
and baritone away in a broader chorus
of to each other decent forebearance & even aid.

Merely sensational let’s have today,
lacking mostly thinking, —
men’s thinking being eighteen-tenths deluded.
Did I get this figure out of St Isaac of Syria?

For fun: find me among my self-indulgent artbooks
a new drawing by Ingres!
For discipline, two self-denying minus-strokes
and my wonted isometrics, barbells, & antiphons.

Lord of happenings, & little things,
muster me westward fitter to my end —
which has got to be Your strange end for me —
and toughen me effective to the tribes en route. – John Berryman (Collected Poems)

Mabon divMabon Magick – Spell

Attracting Wellness Spell – Pagan Studies
The energy of this spell is intended to give a boost to your health and to be a palliative in the face of the upcoming “flu months.”

Light a green candle. Place a glass of water between you and the green candle.

State these words: “Spirit guides, healers, and angels allow me to act as a channel for your healing rays. Energy on.”

Visualize a ray of energy entering your crown. Allow this ray to stream through your body with each breath. Visualize healing and balance being restored to your body. Use your intuition to indicate when the energy has reached its fullness within you. At the point of fullness, hold your hands over the water and visualize the ray stretching from your hands into the water. This action allows you to ground the ray’s energy into the water. As this grounding occurs, the water also become “activated” with the healing properties of the energy.

Thank the spirit guides, healers, and angels for their energy and say: “Energy off.”

Unless a doctor recommends you do not, drink at least eight glasses of activated water daily. ~ Karen Follett from- GrannyMoon’s Coventry of Healing Arts and Pagan Studies

motif Silliness SmilieSilliness – The boring speaker

The after-dinner speaker just didn’t have a Stop button. He burbled on and on and on, oblivious to his increasingly restless audience. Finally one of the more drunken diners hurled an empty wine bottle at him. It missed, and hit the Chairman instead.

As the Chairman slid slowly to the floor clutching his head, he was heard to murmur, “Hit me again, I can still hear him.”
