No Herb or Sewing workshops today!
It’s wet. It’s 51F here, no clue what it is in Waldport and they’re here, so we gotta head out! I’ll tell you about it later.
Yesterday Tempus had a “sleepy” day at the shop. He sold a couple of crystal wands, but had trouble keeping his eyes open, apparently. Well, he got up to see me off after only 4 hours sleep!
Marius got to the house at 8:30. There were only a couple of things to put in the truck and then we got on the road. We spent a lot of the trip marveling at the subtle colors in the trees. Grandma used to complain about the lack of intensity in the Oregon autumn color, but I like the subtlety of it.
We stopped at Kaylee’s and dropped off the desk. She needs a place to do her sewing, so the candle table at the shop is changing. 🙂 After that we stopped at Bera’s to pick up some of the stuff for the feast that Marius is working on this weekend and then headed north. It was a lovely drive and we talked the whole way, as usual.
We found the Shelton Inn with no trouble and Marius took my gear in for me and then headed for Ocean Shores. I got plugged into the WiFi and contacted everyone to say I was where I needed to be and then settled in for the evening. I wrote some notes about what we’d been talking about during the day, mostly notes on research to do and then heated up my supper and ate and got a bit of a nap.
When Brandon and Nick stopped by for me, we went to Brandon’s mother’s house and had supper, then discussed the ritual and how it’s supposed to go, then did a little editing and then they dropped me back at the hotel. I did a little writing and then read before going to sleep.
Today is Brandon and Nick’s handfasting. They’re going to be picking me up in a few minutes. Tempus will have the shop open all day but there are no workshops.

Today’s plant – Maidenhair Fern is cultivated for use in gardens, but out here on the coast you can’t walk past a stand of trees without seeing it. Our variety isAdiantum Pedatum, (northern maidenhair, five-fingered fern) most often , but others of the aidantums get mixed in, too. –Feminine, Venus, Water – This represents the physical presence of the Divine Feminine, much as the Sword Fern represents the Divine Masculine. To get more in touch with this part of your Higher Self and to gain grace and physical beauty (always remembering that true beauty is from within) soak a sprig of this plant in water (…better by moonlight, and it’s a great ritual for a Full Moon) and hang it in your bedroom. This is also helpful for the transition times between life stages, and can even help with becoming pregnant if there are physical difficulties with a woman’s cycles. From Wikpedia – In Hawaiian mythology, the deity Lono is associated with fertility, agriculture, rainfall, and music. In one of the many Hawaiian legends of Lono, he is a fertility and music god who descended to Earth on a rainbow to marry Laka. In agricultural and planting traditions, Lono was identified with rain and food plants. He was one of the four gods (with Kū, Kāne, and Kāne’s twin brother Kanaloa) who existed before the world was created. Lono was also the god of peace. In his honor, the great annual festival of the Makahiki was held. During this period (from October through February), war and unnecessary work was kapu (forbidden). In Hawaiian weather terminology, the winter Kona storms that bring rain to leeward areas are associated with Lono. Lono brings on the rains and dispenses fertility, and as such was sometimes referred to as Lono-makua (Lono the Provider). Ceremonies went through a monthly and yearly cycle. For 8 months of the year, the luakini was dedicated to Ku-with strict kapus. Four periods (kapu pule) each month required strict ceremonies. Violators could have their property seized by priests or overlord chiefs, or be sentenced to death for serious breaches. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lono

Celtic Tree Month of Ngetal/Reed Oct 28 – Nov 24 – nGéadal – (NYEH-dl), reed – The term “reed” is used with great imprecision in North America, but it is clear that the reed of the ogham is the common reed (Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steudel). This is a giant grass, with stems as high as 4 m (13 feet). It grows in marshy areas, where it often forms dense stands. Like most other grasses, the vertical stems live only a single year, dying in the autumn and being replaced with new green shoots in the spring. The dead stems rattle and whisper in late autumn winds. Common reed has spread as a weed throughout the world; in North America it is widespread in cooler climates. Common reed is in the Grass family (Poaceae, or Gramineae).
“The Reed Month, is said by some to be most favorable for communication with ancestral spirits and the strengthening of all family ties, with magickal associations with fertility, love, protection, and family concerns. ‘Thin and slender is the Reed. He stands in clumps at the edge of the river and between his feet hides the swift pike awaiting an unsuspecting minnow to come his way. In his thinness the reed resembles arrows that fly, silver-tipped, up into the unknown air to land at the very source that one had searched for all these years. Firing arrows off into the unknown is an expression of the desire to search out basic truths. If you loose off without direction, the place of landing will be random. If the firing off is carried out with the correct conviction, determination and sense of purpose, then the act becomes secondary to the event that comes both before and after the moment.'” Source: Earth, Moon and Sky

AND IN CRYING
Sometimes I Cry….
And sometimes I Cry more…
than other times.
Yet I am Happy.
For I have You
to love Me
And I have You
or whatever it is…
is good to Me.
For most of the time…
I just AM.
I just AM…
being Busy being.
in being Loved.
And in Crying.
~ From the Poems of Gerardus ~
I asked the girl why she was so sad.
The little girl looked at me with a sad face said, “Because, I’m different.”
I immediately said, “That you are!” and smiled.
The little girl acted even sadder and said, “I know.”
“Little girl,” I said, “you remind me of an angel, sweet and innocent.”
She looked at me and smiled, then slowly she got to her feet and said, “Really?”
“Yes, you’re like a little Guardian Angel sent to watch over all people walking by.”
She nodded her head yes, and smiled.
With that she opened the back of her pink dress and allowed her wings to spread, then she said “I am.”
“I’m your Guardian Angel,” with a twinkle in her eye.
I was speechless — sure I was seeing things.
She said, “For once you thought of someone other than yourself. My job here is done”.
I got to my feet and said, “Wait, why did no one stop to help an angel?”
She looked at me, smiled, and said, “You’re the only one that could see me,” and then she was gone.
And with that, my life was changed dramatically.
Two old friends met one day after many years. One attended college, and now was very successful. The other had not attended college and never had much ambition.
The successful one said, “How has everything been going with you?”
“Well, one day I opened the Bible at random, and dropped my finger on a word and it was oil. So, I invested in oil, and boy, did the oil wells gush. Then another day I dropped my finger on another word and it was gold. So, I invested in gold and those mines really produced. Now, I’m as rich as Bill Gates.”
The successful friend was so impressed that he rushed to his hotel, grabbed a Gideon Bible, flipped it open, and dropped his finger on a page. He opened his eyes and his finger rested on the words, “Chapter Eleven.”
