55F and everything is damp, even if it’s not actually raining. There’s an occasional wind gust, although otherwise it’s very quiet and a little gloomy. ….and now it’s pouring buckets….
I did get a bunch of the baking done yesterday, but it was frustrating that I ended up waiting until 2pm to start and 2/4 of the stuff I took with me didn’t even get used because the person I brought it for didn’t show up. The Duckmeister and I had fun visiting, though, while cookies were baking. I made Shrewsbury cakes and kransekake.
Today’s Plant is the Blueberry, Vaccinium Cyanococcus (many species/varieties)! This is a fruiting bush that is related to cranberries, huckleberries and bilberries, has many species within the genus and many varieties within the species. Many fruits are called blueberries, when they’re not Vaccinium. Widely cultivated across the world, the fruit is high in iron and lot of micronutrients and even has resveratrol like red grapes. It may have effects on brain health, reducing stroke damage in experimental animals and memory retention in the aged. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blueberry – Put blueberries under the doormat to keep people you don’t want out of the house or plant them along the property line or next to the front walk to keep them entirely off your property. Blossoms can be dried and carried in an amulet, or wear fresh ones in your hair for protection from negative psychic energy near you. Eat blueberries and/or make blueberry pie or tea or jam to get the protection from psychic attack inside you, especially if the effects are leading to headaches and fatigue.
Today is the anniversary of the date in 1858 when Bernadette Soubirous first saw an apparition of the Goddess, appearing as the Virgin Mary, in the grotto of Lourdes, which has been a shire of Kore/Persephone for a long, long while. More here: http://www.wilsonsalmanac.com/book/feb11.html and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Lady_of_Lourdes I learned a new word today, “mantic”. It means related to divination or prophecy. The spring at Lourdes was described as “mantic” in the article.http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/mantic

Celtic Tree Month of Luis/Rowan, Jan 21-Feb 17, Luis (LWEESH)/rowan – The rowan, or mountain ash (Sorbus aucuparia L.) is related to servceberries. The red berries were historically used to lure birds into traps, and the specific epithet aucuparia comes from words meaning “to catch a bird”. Birds are also responsible for dispersing the seeds. Rowans thrive in poor soils and colonize disturbed areas. In some parts of Europe they are most common around ancient settlements, either because of their weedy nature or because they were planted. Rowans flower in May. They grow to 15 m (50 feet) and are members of the Rose family (Rosaceae). They are cultivated in North America, especially in the northeast.

Fall Frost By Ruby RedPepper
A bitter cold bites at my body today
as I wander about, stealing with my eyes,
the last greens of this summer past
the brisk air excites my senses
as I deeply drink in the smell
of the rich, wet musk of the earth
the crunch of the frost beneath my feet
echo in my ears and remind me that soon enough
all will be embraced in a icey blanket of white
I will await for the rebirthing of the spring
with the bright flame of Goddess
e’er warming my thoughts, soul & heart
Blessings! Written and Submitted By Ruby RedPepper
Getting Ready For Valentine’s Day
In the early days of the American South, it was thought that if a woman wore a wasp’s nest in her clothing (hidden in her bustle), that her lover would love her more deeply. Don’t try this one at home, kids!
A tall vase of pussy-willows placed in the southwest corner of the bedroom or the most southwestern corner of the house is thought to amplify warmth, compassion, tenderness and sweetness in a relationship. To attract a new relationship, put two roses in the same corner.
This is the adult version of a creamsicle. The vanilla flavor represents warmth, sweetness and smoothness of communication. The orange represents warmth, joy, tenderness and affection. The vodka is for hardiness and strength. Mix ingredients with lots of ice in a cocktail shaker. Pour into two martini glasses. Garnish with a sprig of mint – to encourage the whispering of sweet nothings in your ear.
Take two large sewing needles, one representing a man and the other a woman. Name each of the needles and ask God/dess to bless them. Insert the point of the “male” needle into the eye of the “female needle.” Bind the two needles together with orange thread (for passion), red thread (for lust) and pink thread (for joy.) Put in a place for safekeeping – like a jewelry box and don’t let the needles become unraveled unless your wish is obtained. If wish is not obtained within a year, it is probably not a union that is meant to be. – GrannyMoon’s Morning Feast Archives
