Brilliant sunshine this morning even if it’s “partly cloudy”! 54F and not supposed to get too much warmer. There some wind, but gusts are barely getting into the teens. The rain comes back tomorrow. Enjoy it while ya got it!
Today is more of the same with the exception of the Herbs Workshop. I have a few seeds to start and then we’ll be bundling fennel and prepping rosemary for drying, along with whatever witch hazel that I manage to get harvested before we head for the shop. Sewing at 3pm!
Today’s plant is the Weeping Cherry, Grandma’s favorite in our front yard, which seems to be this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prunus_subhirtella, the Higan Cherry. There are listings for cherries and weeping trees both, but the weeping cherries do not produce fruit, only lovely flowers. Cherries: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry Cherry Blossom: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_blossom Weeping Trees: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weeping_tree Divination, Creativity; Healing – Objects made of Cherry wood are used to attract Love. Cherry juice is used as a substitute for blood in old recipes. Cherry gum is burned as a resin for sore throats.
First Equirria – There were two days of horse racing framing the festivals of the gods of Rome as the family of Mars. They’re some of the earliest religious observances documented in Roman practice and may have been preserved as a religious requirement long after the time when anyone knew what they were for! Driving the biga, the two-wheeled light-weight chariot was a feature of these races, since it had a ritual sacred aspect as well as the excitement of a horse race! Zodiacal Light, February 2016 – Wednesday, Feb. 24–Wednesday March 9, evening – The faint glow of the zodiacal light will be visible for the next two weeks in the western sky after the end of evening twilight. It is a faint cone of light following the ecliptic, the green line shown here, quite distinct from the faint glow of the Milky Way to the northwest.
It’s a busy night at Jupiter. First, Europa disappears into eclipse by Jupiter’s shadow at 9:03 p.m. EST, just barely off Jupiter’s celestial western limb. Five minutes later, Ganymede emerges from behind the opposite limb! If Jupiter is up in view yet where you are, watch at just the right time to catch this seeming switcheroo.
Later, the tiny black shadow of Jupiter‘s moon Io crosses Jupiter’s face from 11:06 p.m. to 1:21 a.m. EST, with Io itself following along just 13 minutes behind. In the midst of that, Europa reappears from behind Jupiter’s eastern limb at 1:14 a.m. EST. (Subtract 3 hours to get Pacific Standard Time.)
Planet Nine (probably fainter than magnitude 22, and probably not in the zodiac) seems fairly likely to be out there, but it could be anywhere along a wide sheaf of orbits inclined roughly 30° to the ecliptic. And it’s most likely to be near its aphelion, hundreds or even 1,000 a.u. away.

Celtic Tree Month of Nuin/Nion/Ash, Feb 18 – Mar 17, Nion (NEE-uhn), ash – the common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) is a major tree of lowland forests in much of Europe, along with oaks and beeches. It grows to 40 m (130 feet) in open sites, with a broad crown reminiscent of American elm trees. Ash was and still is an important timber tree, and is a traditional material for the handle of a besom. The common ash is occasionally cultivated in North America, and similar native ash species are widely grown as street trees. Ashes are members of the Olive family (Oleaceae).

Ostara Magick – Spells
Ostara – A good time for spells of love, healing and protection.
A protective egg Charm
Take an egg and, by poking small holes at each end of it, empty it out. Fill the egg with Cinquefoil leaf and Dogwood, then tape the holes shut. You can decorate the egg with Runes or symbols of protection, or you can leave it natural. Your home and property will be protected.
Pick a white dandelion puff on the night of the full moon. Charge the dandelion with a wish, call to the four quarters, and blow your wish into the wind.
An Ostara Love Spell
Now, a love spell is not to MAKE someone love you, Witches believe that that sort of manipulation of a person is wrong. Love spells are done to show you your future mate in a premonition, or to draw the right love to you, of their own free will- basically giving Mr. or Mrs. right a gentle push in the right direction.
Read the spell over, gather the ingredients listed, then at night before you go to sleep, recite the spell and perform the actions as you recite them:
Of violets and Lavender, take each a few,
Enclose them with Myrtle of dark green hue.
Make them in a posy, small and round and bright,
May you see your true love in your dreams tonight.
Toss crushed eggshells into the garden and say:
For fairy, for flowers, for herbs in the bowers,
The shells pass fertility with springtime flowers.
Eat an egg you have empowered with a quality you desire.
Bless some seeds with a wish. Plant them, and as they come up, the wish is fulfilled
Ostara Rededication Spell Author: Edain McCoy
Re-dedicate yourself to your deities and renew your commitment to the magical life with this ritual. Invite your deities to your circle by lighting candles in their honor. Anoint yourself four times with the following oils: Sandalwood for purity, rosemary for power, lotus for spirituality, and clove for courage. When you are finished say:
Lord and Lady, as you dwell in me,
Make a fit vessel of me;
Give me strength and wisdom to do
All these thing I’ve promised to you.
