Daily Stuff 3-20-15 Nowruz

Hi, folks!

motif plant flower heatherGreen and drippy. Muhgawd things are green! Just overnight the alder is popping.  We’ve had 1/5 of an inch of rain this morning and there’s little breeze.

Tempus had a good day at the shop, a lot of customers in, good sales (which always makes him happy) some folks asking about Ostara… The Open Circle is this Wednesday from 7-10pm.

motif plant flower holiday cactusYesterday was a long, delightful day for me! I had a couple of great conversations with Marius on the way in and out and watching herons, cranes and egrets in the Siuslaw is a treat, much less cloud forms over the ocean and mountains.

motif plant flower dandelion herbThe foodstuffs that we brought went over well, but were kindof a pain to get prepared. The arts and sciences display is where I spent most of my time. Marius was given a couple of awards, as well as some other friends. Got a lot of hugs, a lot of good chats with friends I don’t see often, ate a *lot* of yummy food, learned a bit about pigment paints and came home.

220px-Iris_tenaxToday’s plant is Oregon Iris, Iris tenax. I grew up calling Iris flowers “ladies’ ball gowns”. Local peoples used the tough leaves for making string and rope mostly for snares. –Feminine, Venus, Water – sacred to Iris and Juno, their magicks are used for purification and magicks including 3’s. The three petals stand for faith, wisdom and valor and can be used in magicks to promote these qualities. More on Oregon Iris here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_tenax More on Iris in general here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_%28plant%29

Waxing Gibbous MoonWaxing Moon Magick The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. For spells that need concentrated work over a ¼ moon cycle this is the best time for constructive workings. Aim to do the last working on the day of the Full moon, before the turn. Keywords for the Gibbous phase are: analyze, prepare, trust. It is the time in a cycle to process the results of the actions taken during the First Quarter. During this phase you are gathering information. Give up making judgments; it will only lead to worry. Your knowledge is incomplete. Laugh. Analyze and filter. LOOK WITHIN. God/dess aspect: Maiden/Youth, but in the uncommitted phase, the Warriors – Associated God/desses: Dion, Dionysius, Venus, Thor. Phase ends at Full Phase which begins on 3/21 at 5:01pm.

fearn alder Alnus-viridis-leavesCeltic Tree Month of Fearn/Alder, Mar 18 – Apr 14. Fern (FAIR-n) Alder – The common alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertner) is common along lowland rivers, where it grows with aspens, poplars, and willows. Like willows, alders sprout from stumps. This allows them to regenerate after heavy flooding. In protect sites they may grow to 20 m (65 feet) tall. Their leaves are more blunt-tipped than most North American alders, which look more like the grey alder (A. incana (L.) Moench). This species is more common in the mountains of Europe, and is not restricted to moist soils. Like ashes, European alders are not widely cultivated in North American (they are often sold as black alders), but several native species are. Alder wood is said to resist rotting when it is wet, and was the wood of choice for pilings in many regions. Alders are members of the Birch family (Betulaceae).

~  Hegh neH chav qoH. – Klingon Proverb: A fool’s only achievement is death.
~  The test of literature is, I suppose, whether we ourselves live more intensely for the reading of it. – Elizabeth Drew (1935- ) US journalist
~  The place to begin building any relationship is inside ourselves, inside our Circle of Influence, our own character. – Paradigm of Interdependence

Man is ignorant and blind, and he wants to remain ignorant and blind, because to come inwards looks like entering a chaos. And it is so; inside you have created a chaos. You have to encounter it and go through it. Courage is needed – courage to be oneself, and courage to move inwards. I have not come across a greater courage than that – the courage to be meditative. – Osho

Ostara Magick – Songs

Eostre

When the snow melts
And winter breathes its last
Then do we dream of you
Eostre Lady of Springtime
Bringer of new growth and freshness.
The frozen Earth beneath your feet
Becomes soft and yielding
Now ready to burst forth with new life.
Return to us, Eostre.
Return to us, Sacred Hare.
Melt the snow from the ground
The ice from the streams
The frost from our hearts. – GateWest Invocations (link no longer works, don’t know if they’ve moved or not)

Ostara Song  (to the tune of “Goodbye Ladies”) – http://crystalforest3.homestead.com/beltane.html from the Pagan and Wiccan Parenting Page

Good Bye Winter,
Good bye Winter,
Good bye Winter,
Good bye Winter,
We wish you’d leave us now.

(replace the following words for “Winter:” snow, slush, snowsuits, cold wind, and any thing else the children come up with.)

Come back Springtime,
Come back Springtime,
Come back Springtime,
We wish you’d come today.

(replace the following words for “Springtime:” green grass, flowers, birds, and any thing else the children come up with.)

motif Silliness SmilieSilliness – Loan Arithmetic

Little Johnny was being questioned by the teacher during an arithmetic lesson. ‘If you had ten dollars,’ said the teacher, ‘and I asked you for a loan of eight dollars, how much would you have left?’
‘Ten,’ said Little Johnny firmly.
‘Ten?’ the teacher said ‘How do you make it ten?’
‘Well,’ replied Little Johnny ‘You may ask for a loan of eight dollars, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get it!’
