As we were coming into the shop yesterday morning, crossing the bridge, a heron flew past. That was a good omen for starting the day! My glass supplier brought us some dragons, so we have more of those for sale again along with a few mermaids, a couple of suns and moons and a winged heart! They’re going for $10-$14.
Tempus got that messy spot in the office space cleaned up and then we put some stuff out for the birds and were entertained by crows and seagulls. We had a number of customers in and when that slowed down I was telling Tempus about how sleepy I was (afternoon, lunch-full tummy and not quite enough snooze time last night) and he said, “I’m looking longingly at the easy chair, but it’s holding me at bay…. yes, the branches that I cut the other day were on the chair seat!
I started prepping the bay leaves and kept that up for most of the afternoon. I’m hoping to dig the actual plant later this week and put it into a large pot. …and darned if I know what we did the rest of the day…. just stuff! We got home in twilight with me smiling over being able to hear the ocean so well as I was coming down the path.
Tempus has already headed for the shop after getting some laundry started. A friend is coming to pick up some stuff that was stored for her. I’m still at home and will be working on putting things away here. We have a lot of duplicate containers that I need to consolidate and then I’m going to load some of the dresser drawers, prepping for getting the frame in, once Tempus gets the shelf cut for it. I think he’s cutting that today and of course we have to work on packing. I also have a bunch of writing and set-up for newsletters and such.
Today’s Plant is the Evergreen Violet, Viola sempervirens. This is a pretty plant that looks like nothing much through 9 months of the year here on the coast, but is spectacular in March, when it covers the ground with beautiful golden flowers on a deep blue/green background and still lovely in April/May. It is indeed evergreen, not withering to the ground, although it sometimes is overshadowed by grass. It grows well in the park behind the house. As any viola it is Feminine, ruled by Venus, but unlike the blue violets (corresponding to water) the Evergreen Violet corresponds to the element of Air and the Sun – Protects against malevolent spirits, brings changes in luck & fortune, wear to help with headaches, dizziness and to bring calm and sleep, wear in a green sachet to heal wounds.
Today’s feast is that of Hermes Trismegistus. He seems to be acombination of Hermes and Thoth with a lot of other bits thrown in, but the corpus of works assigned to him are the basis of Hermeticism. He is a god of writing and magick, of astrology, alchemy and other learned arts.
