Hi, folks!

Waves tide Minpart sun weather motifus Tide at 10:28 AM of -0.6 feet.

56F and the computer says, “Partly Cloudy”, but I haven’t seen any sun, yet.

052116 IrisYesterday we didn’t get out of the apartment until past 2:30, what with being tired, me letting Tempus sleep and sorting some more things into drawers. We stopped at the shop first, to scan some things and check on the crockpot and I finished developing some pictures while I waited for Tempus.

052416 flower3After that it was up to the house and packing. Loads went to storage, but at around 8pm I was just done in and wheezing, so we got some things to the shop, grabbed 052116 Treethe crockpot and went home.

Today we’ll be opening the shop on time, but I don’t know which of us is going to be where and when, especially since I’m still wheezing and have been all night. I’m probably not going to make it to Sewing today, either. Well, the shop will be open!

Monday’s new glass from Gary Lund! 052316 New glassToday’s feast is the Fortinalia, or sacred well day. It was celebrated in220px-Puteal_báquico_(M.A.N._Madrid)_01ancient Rome on October 13 and pagans today keep the feast in May as a thank you to the wells that give us clean water and to the wells of inspiration that we dip from to create our magick. Usually flowers and ribbons are brought to the wells. I’ve done clean-ups around artesian springs on this day, too, and the pipe that has awesome spring water out rt. 34, usually has a bouquet and a dozen ribbons every year! More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fontinalia

Plant Herb BlackberryToday’s plant is the Pacific Blackberry, Rubus ursinus. There are several species of blackberries that grow in the PNW, the nasty invasive one being the Himalayan blackberry, Rubus armeniacus. Ursinus (from the Latin for “bear”) also has narrower leaves and reddish canes. It is the ancestor of Marionberries, Boysenberries & parent of Loganberries, too. Feminine, Venus, Water, Brigit, Healing, Money, Protection – Carry leaves for money, use blackberry leaves in spring water as healing for burns, in incense for Lughnasadh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_blackberry

Quotes

~  We go through the day rather than getting something from the day.  We are everywhere at any given moment in time except living in that moment in time. – Jim  Rohn
~  We are the consciousness that will define the nature of the reality we are moving into. – Ram Dass
~  The more wise and powerful a master, the more directly is his work created, and the simpler it is. – Meister Eckhart
~  Anything can be told to a friend. – Egil’s Saga, c.56

Holy Vulcan, foremost of this place, to You we pray. Grant peace to the exhausted fire brigades and to those who service the fountains. If none are harmed so very much, if the flames You permit to assault only a few deplorable souls, Holy One, then at each of your altars they will sing your praises, three times, three times they will pour libations and make thick with incense Your altar fires piled high with fruitful boughs. – Grattius; Cynegetica, 437 – 42

stangStangs

Stangs are less commonly used forms of staves. Basically, it is a two-pronged staff (see illustration below). The easiest way to find one is to get one that has fallen off of a tree. You can also fashion the prong from papier-mâché, or commission a woodworker or metal smith to make one for you, if you have the means. The Stang is ancient Roman in origin, and was used to represent the two-faced god Janus, for whom the month of January is named. His two faces looked simultaneously into the past and future. Some traditions use stangs to mark the ritual entry and exit point of a magick circle, and see it as a portal between the physical world and the world of spirit. Decorate the stang in the same way you would a staff. You may also use it for the same purposes as a staff.

Subject: [Hearth_Witch] Midsummer Door Ornaments
Midsummer Door Ornaments
Items Needed:
· Small broom, about 1′ by 8″
· Plastic seasonal flowers ~ {Roses, Wildflowers}
· 3 different colours of ribbon, about 12″-16″ long
· Some thin wire ~ {strip garbage bag twist-ties of their paper
coats}
· Ornament oriented to the sabbat
· Wire Cutters
· Scissors
Directions: (Note, if doing this project with children, please watch the scissors and wire cutters) Take the wire cutters and cut the flower stems to a height that is workable. With the wire, begin tying into them the seasonal flowers and the berries at the base of the broom nearest where the bristles begin. Make sure the leaves of the flowers lie flat against the bristles. This will be a great background for the colour of the flowers to contrast against.

Take the berries and the fruit and lay them between the flowers and then tie them of with the wire. As soon as all of that is in, pick out your favourite Midsummer ornament.

Take the ribbon and tie in a bow or a knot, either will do, around the wire. Let some of the extra drape around and under the broom.

When you want to hang this, simply take a bit of wire and string it through the top of the broom handle and nail it to the door, hang it in a window or wherever you prefer. To hang it with the bristles pointing upwards, weave the wire up through the bristles and then twist it a few times for some extra strength.

Wedding Gift Basket – (For Litha) – http://members.aol.com/ivycleartoes/wedding.html

  • Small basket
  • Seashells
  • Craft miniatures of birds and butterflies
  • False flowers and fruits
  • Bells
  • Any other natural wedding gift type items you can think of
  1. Simply place all items aesthetically inside the basket, perhaps using it as a decoration for inside your feather wreath if you made one.
  2. It is very tasteful to wind white flower garlands around the handle of the basket, and to perhaps even paint it yourself or, if you are talented in that area, to weave your own basket.

To use this in a ritual, every item to be placed in the basket must have some kind of symbolic meaning. You can solemnly put each item in and simultaneously make a wish for the union of the deities, and pray for Their happiness; also it can be used as a parallel for any relationships in your life that you wish to succeed.
