Blue sky and white puffies over the Coast Range which is veiled by haze, almost obscured! Town looked rather like Brigadoon, rather like it might disappear, or had just appeared out of the mist. The marine layer is really disorganized, but it might roll over us again this afternoon the way it did yesterday. 56F and a light breeze which might get up to 20mph this afternoon.
Yesterday was *really* busy, positively zoo-ish, early on! By mid-afternoon things had calmed down and I got some cookery going (baked potatoes and a chicken bake). After that I kept getting stymied every time I went to work in the back because Tempus had a bunch of things out and I had no room to work. He just kept working on his lucet, so I finally gave up asking and worked on clipart. He did eventually get to it, so I managed to get some stuff sorted out.
…and I got started on a batch of wood butter and the nuker completely quit! Tempus went down to the flea market and got a new one, which is really high-powered. …but by then I was trying to cook supper. The chicken and potatoes were done, but we still needed veg. We finally finished supper well after 9pm and didn’t leave the shop until nearly 11pm!
Today is House Capuchin’s Project Day. Tempus has to run some errands, which I’m hoping will include taking the old nuker and mini fridge back to the apartment and then he’ll be back. I think he’s going to tackle the dishes and cookware in back. First thing I need to get the wood butter done. I ran out of oomph yesterday. I harvested some herbs and salad greens this morning, so I have to get those organized. By the time the folks get here I’ll be glad to sit, I think.
….and because it’s 9/11…. a dear friend wrote this last year:
- Fourteen years ago, too many people died simply because they were at work, on an airplane, or meeting someone.
- Fourteen years ago, too many people died because some others couldn’t accept that they were different in some way.
- Fourteen years ago, too many of us mourned those who were murdered for no real reason.
- Hate gets us nothing. Religious zealotry of ANY faith gets us nothing.
- Fourteen years later, we’re still fighting hate and zealotry.
- It’s one thing to use guns in war. It’s another to practice forgiveness and acceptance.
- I’m not saying war is a bad thing. I was excited like the rest of the U.S. when Bin Laden was killed. And I am grateful to each and every soldier who has taken up arms to defend my family.
- But I honor those who died every day by refusing to hate someone I don’t know because of their nationality, faith, sexuality, political leanings, or race.
- I encourage you to do the same.” – Kate M. Collins
Ok, Samhain’s coming!

Today’s Plant is Gillyflower, Clove Pink, Carnation, all names that are used for, Dianthus caryophyllus. This plant has been hybridized to the point where the basic flower and the florist’s varieties (which are all that show up in the article….) don’t look a bit alike, although they keep the scent. These also make a yummy tea. Even a single flower in a cup of green tea is enough! There is a lot of symbolism to the flower, depending on which culture you’re in, although they generally are thought to mean love, fascination, and distinction. They were used particularly in crowns of victory in ancient Europe. – Masculine, Sun, Fire, Jupiter – All-purpose protection, in healing for strength and energy (so perfect for hospital bouquets!) and for healing of broken hearts, add red, rather than pink blossoms. White are occasionally used for the protection of children or those who travel. Dried petals make a great addition to sachets, potpourris or incense since they strengthen the properties of other plants and herbs.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dianthus_caryophyllus

Celtic Tree Month of Muin/Vine Sep 2 – 29 – (MUHN, like “foot”),
Runic half-month of Raidho/Rad 8/29-9/12 – Denotes the channeling of energies in the correct manner to produce the desired results. Nigel Pennick, The Pagan Book of Days, Destiny Books, Rochester, Vermont, USA, 1992, p. 102 Runic half-month of Kenaz/Ken/Kebo – September 13-27 – Ken represents a flaming torch within the royal hall, so it’s the time of the creative fire – the forge where natural materials are transmuted by the force of the human will into a mystical third, an artifact that could not otherwise come into being. The positive aspects of sexuality that are immanent in Freya and Frey come into play at this time. Nigel Pennick, The Pagan Book of Days, Destiny Books, Rochester, Vermont, USA, 1992, p. 102

Pagan Studies : Day of Harvest Spell 9/9
Today is the birthday of the Russian harvest Goddess, Berehynia. In her honor, make your own harvest incense. Combine two parts sweet grass, one part each cedar, sage, juniper, and rosemary essential oils. Mix them together in a glass bottle. Or you may use the dry herbs and grind them together in a blender or bowl. Once your incense has been mixed, chant:
Children of the land,
Bring us the blessings of the harvest season.
Burn your incense on a charcoal disk, and wish Berehynia a very happy birthday. ~ Kristin Madden, from GrannyMoon’s Coventry of Healing Arts and Pagan Studies
Ancient Ones Harvest Spell – Pagan Studies
Harvest was a time for families, communities, and friends to come together. During harvest, special cakes were made in a ritual manner, and each person in the family or group would partake of this sacred meal.
Mix together one cup oat flour, one pinch baking soda, two pinches of salt, and one teaspoon of melted butter. Add hot water to form the dough, roll it on a board, and cut it into shapes. Cook the bread in the oven at 375 degrees until it is nicely toasted.
Share it with your tribe or family, reciting these words:
Consecrate the produce of our land.
Bestow prosperity and peace
