It’s raining at home and did here, although not at the moment. There’s a chance of thunderstorms right as my class is starting. There has been almost and inch of rain in 24 hours which is “fun” when most folks are camping. Oh, the wind cut *right* through everything we had on!
Yesterday was a blast despite rain and wind! Most of the rain was fairy rain and the pavilion I was in didn’t blow down. My Balls class went well and I did another, later, on Blackwork, which I’m actually teaching this morning. Marius and I will head home as soon as that’s done. We had a good supper. I got a little pink in the face from some yummy hard cider.
Tempus says, “Had an older lady come in looking around and she was mightily impressed with your samplers. She may be back, she’s new to the area. Also had a lady from Corvallis, and a couple from Springfield that found us online, and the ex-cop who had the daughters was in with his new SO and her daughters …. They’re staying a day or so at the Alsi ….
So, I’m teaching and then heading home. Tempus will have the shop open at the regular time and I should be getting in late afternoon or early evening. Gotta have my coffee first, although we’ll have breakfast onsite.
A Ken Gagne photo that I’m calling “Rush Hour in Yachats” from 9/29/15. That’s morning moonset.

Today is the day of Tutelary Spirits, Guardian Spirits, angels, daemons, spirit guides, spirits of place. “On this day, light a white candle on your altar and give thanks to your spirit guide (or guides) for guarding over you and guiding you through your spiritual development. If you wish to communicate with or meet your spirit guide, use a Ouija board or, through prayer, invite the spirit guide to come to you in a dream or in a trance.” – Wicca Book of Days, Gerina Dunwich
Soapwort, Saponaria officinalis is sacred to these spirits. More on soapwort here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saponaria_officinalis

Saturn and Antares move lower toward the southwest at dusk this week, but brighter Mars will continue to hang back.
A twilight challenge. About a half hour after your local sunset time, look for Venus very low in the west-southwest through the twilight. Some 10° to its right (for North America) is the thin crescent Moon. Although Venus is still lurking low, it’s on its way to shining high and brilliant this winter.
Even as the stars begin to come out in twilight, Cassiopeia is already higher in the northeast now than the sinking Big Dipper is in the northwest. Cassiopeia’s broad W pattern is almost standing on end.

Gort – Ivy Sep 30 – Oct 27 – Gort – (GORT), ivy – Ivy (Hedera helix L.) is also a vine, growing to 30 m (100 feet) long in beech woods and around human habitations, where it is widely planted as a ground cover. Ivy produces greenish flowers before Samhain on short, vertical shrubby branches. The leaves of these flowering branches lack the characteristic lobes of the leaves of the rest of the plant. Like holly, ivy is evergreen, its dark green leaves striking in the bare forests of midwinter. Ivy is widely cultivated in North America. It is a member of the Ginseng family (Araliaceae).

Love is a rose flower in your being. But prepare your being; dispel the darkness and the unconsciousness. Become more and more alert and aware and love will come on its own accord, in its own time. You need not worry about it. And whenever it comes it is always perfect. Love is a spiritual experience — nothing to do with sexes and nothing to do with bodies, but something to do with the innermost being. – Osho
Autumn votive holders & vases (Anja)
- Several mini pumpkins (the flat kind hold candles, the round kind make vases)
- Pot or large bowl for soaking pumpkins
- Salt (table salt is fine for soaking)
- Strong knife
- Strong handled spoon
- One clear glass votive candle holder per pumpkin
- Rock salt
- Plate, platter or tray
- Cut the pumpkin stem section out so that the glass holder will fit inside.
- Gut the pumpkin, pulling all strings.
- Soak for about an ½ hour in salted water (1 tablespoon per cup) They may get wrinkly. It depends on how ripe they were when picked.
- Fish the pumpkins out, turn them upside down on something like a wire rack, so that air will flow underneath the help them dry. Leave overnight.
- Put rock salt into pumpkins.
- Shove votive holders into the salt, so that it fills the crevices in the pumpkin.
- Add flowers and/or tea lights as desired .
- Put salt on plate, so that plate is covered. Place pumpkins artistically around.
Note – Salt will “draw” liquid from the pumpkins, so they will wrinkle. The salt is a delaying tactic for the inevitable mold! In a dry climate these might last a week. On the Pacific Coast, 3 days is tops. You can delay things further, by keeping the pumpkins in the fridge at night.
You will need: a round piece of craft foam, pins, fall items such as gourds, mini pumpkins, apples, autumn leaves, pine cones, 2 orange candles, candle holders. Place the items on the craft foam in whatever design you desire and attach with pins. Leave room for two orange candles in their holders. Place in the center of the feast table, light candles, and enjoy!

Silliness – Ransacked Blonde
Returning home from work, a blonde was shocked to find her house ransacked and burglarized.
She telephoned the police at once and reported the crime.
The police dispatcher broadcast the call on the radio, and a K-9 unit, patrolling nearby was the first to respond. As the K-9 officer approached the house with his dog on a leash, the blonde ran out on the porch, shuddered at the sight of the cop and his dog, then sat down on the steps.
Putting her face in her hands, she moaned, “I come home to find all my possessions stolen. I call the police for help, and what do they do?
“They send me a BLIND policeman.”
