It’s pouring and has been off and on. It’s only just 5:30 and Tempus and I are rolling out the door in about an 1/2 hour. It’s likely to be stormy today, thunderstorms and nasty levels of wind, but not like what they were predicting. I got pretty annoyed at how sky-is-falling so many folks were being yesterday.
A photo from 9/30/16 by Ken Gagne that he tagged, “B-52’s coming into Yachats Airfield”. Yes, they’re pelicans.
Yesterday started bright and sunshiny, but by 5pm it had gone gloomy, there was fog and some spits of rain. By 5:30 it was coming down in sheets and there had been some wonderful thunder-rumbles! I had finally gotten a batch of apples into the dehydrator by then.
We had customers during the day, but then as it got gloomy, that stopped. I worked on packing and then got so sleepy that I was having trouble sitting upright. Tempus got all my cooking equipment pulled out. Eventually we had the cooler packed, too and my box of class stuff and I ran out of spoons.
The apples were done when I woke up at 3am. I got them into a box and went back to sleep. I woke at about 5 and we’re getting ready to go. Tempus has to drag some stuff down here from the car, then I’ll get into my costume stuff and we’ll head out.
Today the shop is going to be open at the normal times. If it gets really bad, Tempus might put a sign in the door and go home. Otherwise, he’ll be there. I’m going to be in Eugene all day with my class.
Luffa (or loofah, luffa aegyptica or luffa acutangula) is an odd sort of plant, rather like a cucumber in that it’s a long, green vegetable with the flesh on the outside and a core full of seeds. They’re even edible, if a little bitter, when young. The biggest difference is that they grow a fibrous frame that has been used for a long time as a “vegetable sponge”, wherever they grow and are particularly good for scrubbing scratchable dishes, counters and glassware. They’re used a lot in Chinese medicine, and the juice is a remedy for jaundice. – Feminine, Moon, Water – Their magicks include helping with rheumatism and arthritis, detoxing, especially the liver, and with acne and scarring.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luffa
Today is the birthday of the poet Virgil who wrote the Aeneid. He was pretty famous, even in his own time, unlike the usual reception for poetry. The Ecologues, the Georgics and the Aeneid were studied in schools in the Roman Empire and unlike other writings of antiquity survived the Dark Ages. Virgil was viewed as a herald of Christianity, and a magus of some repute as well as a poet in the Middle Ages. He even became the psychopomp for the Divine Comedy! Full Moon (exact at 12:23 a.m. EDT tonight). The Moon rises around sunset due east. After dark, look almost 20° left of the Moon for the brightest stars of Aries.
Faint Uranus, like the Moon this evening, is at opposition. (They’re less than 4° apart for the Americas).
Mercury (magnitude –1.2) is still visible under Jupiter low in the dawn for the first few mornings of the week. On Saturday morning the 15th, about 30 minutes before sunrise, look for Mercury 6° to Jupiter’s lower left. Binoculars will help. Mercury becomes lost from sight in the next couple of days.

Gort – Ivy Sep 30 – Oct 27 – Gort – (GORT), ivy – Ivy (Hedera helix L.) is also a vine, growing to 30 m (100 feet) long in beech woods and around human habitations, where it is widely planted as a ground cover. Ivy produces greenish flowers before Samhain on short, vertical shrubby branches. The leaves of these flowering branches lack the characteristic lobes of the leaves of the rest of the plant. Like holly, ivy is evergreen, its dark green leaves striking in the bare forests of midwinter. Ivy is widely cultivated in North America. It is a member of the Ginseng family (Araliaceae).

Croning Blessing – by Noel-Anne Brennan
We call to you now,
From the times before the Beginning,
from the place before time,
We call to you, Dark Moon,
By all your names
Spoken and unspoken.
Rhea, Mother of Time,
Macha, Lady of Power,
Baba Yaga of the forests,
Kali, Dark Mother,
Hecate of the Crossroads,
Queen of magic.
Mighty Goddesses and Crones,
And bless the Crones
Of our circle,
First among sisters.
Bless them, bless them, bless them,
We thank you.
Samhain Night of the Dead
‘I am the God who i the dead of the year, in the dark of life, at the end me .
black crowded darkness forming the
Silent clamour of the returning hoard filling the night but no space,
and we, hosts in our turn greet in love the Mighty Dead.
All is life, on the Feast of the Dead – on Samhain.
The sword, flashing candle-glow, salutes The Guardians,
forms the Circle, builds again the Castle.
Bridges down, we wait, welcoming, expectant,
feeling again the surge as they return.
Now with us again – The Clan.
Life force quickens, on the Feast of the Dead – on Samhain.
Now fill the cup to drink in honour of our kin. Ours by choice and right. To talk gravely, laugh merrily as kinsmen will in kinship.
Drink, with them, the ancient festival.
Out of time, is the time of the Dead – is Samhain.
Brought on no chill wind, this merry crew,
the dead and the Lord of the Dead.
Their rich warmth reaches the soul of us encumbered in
light we warm our cold clay at the fire of your caring.
Tonight is the promise renewed, and our spirits drink the
Life force with our beloved dead.
In the hour of the dead – on the Eve of Samhain.
Silliness – Light Bulbs – Q: How many years does it take for a New-ager to change a light bulb?
A: Well, it takes many, many years, unless you pay $650 US non-refundable, Visa or MC accepted. Then you can do it after the weekend intensive training seminar.
