Daily Stuff 11-11-16 Armistice Day

Hi, folks!

Waves tide The minus/King tides associated with the Supermoon start tomorrow. Be careful at both Full Ebb and Full Flood tides. Changes will be fast and water levels are going to be extreme!

wind weather motifIt’s rather grey, but dry. The computer says it’s clear… hmmm…. there aren’t any shadows so there must be a lot of birds up there…. We’re under a High Wind Watch for tonight. It’s nothing much, but Coastal weather. It’s been warm for several days. Apparently there have been some records set. That’s about to change. Temps will be dropping over the next week. 61.5 and no wind.

110716-flower4Yesterday was a “best-laid plans” day. The day started pretty normally and I settled in to working on inventory and then an old friend showed up and the day went sideways. She left at a bit after 4pm and Tempus and I got back to work on what he had been doing.

…and then I realized it was Thursday and after 3pm! So, I let Sabrina know I was headed her way and we had a good time for the hour or so that we had.

110716-flower5Some of the local SCA folks had an online meeting at 7. Tempus was making us supper and we were eating during that. After that was over, he took me home and headed out for the paper route. I spend the evening weighing crystals, reading and embroidering. He got in around 6am since the papers were late again.

Today I’m going to try to get more of these crystals priced and out. Some are going into the case, a couple are going to get headered.

pic plant tree Thuja_plicataToday’s plant is Western Red Cedar, Thuja plicata, which is not a cedar at all, but an Arborvitae. Arborvitae comes from the Latin for “tree of life” and coincidentally, native Americans of the West coast also address the species as “long life maker”. “Western Redcedar has an extensive history of use by the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast, from Oregon to southeast Alaska. Some northwest coast tribes refer to themselves as “people of the redcedar” because of their extensive dependence on the tree for basic materials. The wood has been used for constructing housing, totem poles, and crafted into many objects, including masks, utensils, boxes, boards, instruments, canoes, vessels, and ceremonial objects. Roots and bark were used for baskets, ropes, clothing, blankets and rings.” Wiki articleMasculine, Sun, Fire, – to enhance banishing of ill health and bad dreams. This day was huge for those who lived through that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armistice_of_11_November_1918 Many of the celebrations are more associated with veterans and the Unknown Soldiers, now.

150px-Husband_and_wife_trees_-_BlackthornLunantshees – Among the sidhe Faerie races of Ireland, the guardians of the sacred blackthorn trees (Prunus spinosa) are the Lunantshees. On both Nov. 11 and May 11, these guardians will not allow any of their trees to be cut, and today is set aside to honor their protection. The sidhe are usually honored with bread, milk and honey, and there are stories of these things being taken to blackthorn groves on this day. There’s not a lot more to be found about this feast…. but here’s some about the plant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prunus_spinosa

magick motif slav Kolovrat RodnoverDay of Remembrance for Volhvs – Gruden (November) 11 – Tip the horn in remembrance of those (people) who died at the Christian’s “virtuous” hands. – “At the time of Gleb Svatsolavich, a Volhv appeared … who went unto the people and told his story. …A rebellion of great proportions occurred in the town, and the people were set on killing the bishop. The townspeople became divided: Knjaz Gleb and his consort sided went with the bishop, but all the people sided with the Volhv.” – Tale of Years Past  The great rebellion in all the High Volga Region occurred in Susdal in the year 1024. In 1071, two Wizards gave orders to the vast area from the Volga. ‘In the year 6735, (1227 C.E.), four Volhvs were immolated for their conjuring and working of magic. And God did this! They were all burned in Jaroslav’s Court’. – First Novgordian Epistle

Waxing Gibbous MoonWaxing Moon Magick – The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Phase ends at the Tide Change on 11/14 at 5:52am. Waxing Gibbous Moon – From seven to fourteen days after the new moon. For spells that need concentrated work over a ¼ moon cycle this is the best time for constructive workings. Aim to do the last working on the day of the Full moon, before the turn. Keywords for the Gibbous phase are: analyze, prepare, trust. It is the time in a cycle to process the results of the actions taken during the First Quarter. During this phase you are gathering information. Give up making judgments; it will only lead to worry. Your knowledge is incomplete. Laugh. Analyze and filter. LOOK WITHIN. God/dess aspect: Maiden/Youth, but in the uncommitted phase, the Warriors – Associated God/desses: Dion, Dionysius, Venus, Thor. Phase ends at the Full on 11/12 at 5:52pm.

webvic16_nov11ev-534x360Can you still see Saturn? And in the coming weeks and months, watch Venus and Mars draw closer together. Saturn is falling ever farther away to the lower right of Venus at dusk, while far to the upper left of Venus, Mars is drawing closer to it very, very gradually. The scene above is exact for viewers at 40° north latitude. Far south or north of there, you’ll see the view higher or lower and slightly tilted with respect to how it’s drawn here.
Astro Constellation Orion Sirius BetelgeuseBy about 8 p.m. now, Orion is clearing the eastern horizon (depending on how far east or west you live in your time zone). High above Orion shines orange Aldebaran. Above Aldebaran is the little Pleiades cluster, the size of your fingertip at arm’s length. Far left of the Pleiades shines bright Capella.

Plant motif reedCeltic Tree Month of Ngetal/Reed  Oct 28 – Nov 24 – nGéadal – (NYEH-dl), reed – The term “reed” is used with great imprecision in North America, but it is clear that the reed of the ogham is the common reed (Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steudel). This is a giant grass, with stems as high as 4 m (13 feet). It grows in marshy areas, where it often forms dense stands. Like most other grasses, the vertical stems live only a single year, dying in the autumn and being replaced with new green shoots in the spring. The dead stems rattle and whisper in late autumn winds. Common reed has spread as a weed throughout the world; in North America it is widespread in cooler climates. Common reed is in the Grass family (Poaceae, or Gramineae).
arrow celtic tree month reed ngedal“The Reed Month, is said by some to be most favorable for communication with ancestral spirits and the strengthening of all family ties, with magickal associations with fertility, love, protection, and family concerns. ‘Thin and slender is the Reed. He stands in clumps at the edge of the river and between his feet hides the swift pike awaiting an unsuspecting minnow to come his way. In his thinness the reed resembles arrows that fly, silver-tipped, up into the unknown air to land at the very source that one had searched for all these years. Firing arrows off into the unknown is an expression of the desire to search out basic truths. If you loose off without direction, the place of landing will be random. If the firing off is carried out with the correct conviction, determination and sense of purpose, then the act becomes secondary to the event that comes both before and after the moment.'”   Source: Earth, Moon and Sky

The Leaves of the Trees
(to the tune of “The Wheels on the Bus”)

The leaves of the trees turn orange and red
orange and red, orange and red
The leaves of the trees turn orange and red
All through the town.

The leaves of the trees come tumbling down
tumbling down, tumbling down
The leaves of the trees come tumbling down
All through the town.

The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish
Swish, swish, swish, swish, swish, swish,
The leaves on the ground go swish, swish, swish
All through the town. – Irmgard Guertges

Turkey platter Thanksgiving food motifMagick – Prayers

An Iroquois Thanksgiving Prayer

We return thanks to our mother, the earth, which sustains us.
We return thanks to the rivers and streams, which supply us with water.
We return thanks to all herbs, which furnish medicines for the cure of our diseases.
We return thanks to the moon and stars, which have given to us their light when the sun was gone.
We return thanks to the sun, that has looked upon the earth with a beneficent eye.
Lastly, we return thanks to the Great Spirit, in Whom is embodied all goodness, and Who directs all things for the good of Her children. ~ Iroquois Prayer

Thanksgiving
The year has turned its circle,
The seasons come and go.
The harvest all is gathered in
And chilly north winds blow.
Orchards have shared their treasures,
The fields, their yellow grain,
So open wide the doorway~
Thanksgiving comes again!             ~Author Unknown

Give Thanks

However much or however little you have for your Thanksgiving meal, give thanks that you have a meal.
However warm or however chill your home, give thanks that you have a home.
However sweet or however irritating your family, give thanks that you have a family.
However wise or however stupid our government may be from time to time, give thanks that it is OUR government — that we are free.

motif Silliness SmilieSilliness – Final Wishes

Three buddies die in a car crash, they go to heaven to an orientation.

They are all asked, “When you’re in your casket and friends and family are mourning upon you, what would you like to hear them say about you?”

The first guy says, “I’d like to hear them say that I was a great doctor of my time, and a great family man.”

The second guy says, “I’d like to hear that I was a wonderful husband and school teacher who made a huge difference in our children of tomorrow.”

The last guy replies, “I’d like to hear them say……LOOK, HE’S MOVING!!!!”
