It’s cloudy, at the moment, completely overcast. After the heavy fog last night, that’s no surprise. The computer says the clouds are at 500 feet, so they’ll probably burn off before too long. It’s 58F, light breeze, even by the water, and 86% humidity, higher than for several days. There’s actually a chance of rain in the forecast for Tuesday/Wednesday and again next Sunday.
Yesterday Tempus fell asleep within minutes of us having coffee, but was up and doing again around 2pm. He headed in to Newport to get some supplies. By then I was getting sleepy, but I kept plugging away on clipart.
We were pretty busy, not as much so as the weather and a holiday would say was right, but that sometimes happens. When Tempus got back he still had to go to the bank and pick up our meds but sat back down on the sofa, after.
He dozed right off again and then after awhile got up to do some supper. He made an interesting salad. It sort of started life as coleslaw, but also involved: grean peas, onion, tomato, cheese and ham! Very tasty!
He worked on the table after that and we didn’t leave until 11:20, but which time I fell into bed. The problem was that I’d been holding myself awake too long and that meant I didn’t fall fully asleep until 2am. Argh…..
He woke me from really bizzarro dreams right at 10, so we’re not going to be quite ready for Herbs when we open, but another 5 minutes ought to get it. I have a bunch of herbs that I just harvested in my basket and plenty more that need to be processed.
In Sewing this afternoon I have pouches to do and to finish pinning my ruff, now that I have pins for it.
Today’s Plant is Miner’s Lettuce, Claytonia perfoliata (aka winter purslane, or Indian lettuce). It’s a plant native to our area, growing and blooming in our soggy spring and drying out and dying back in the summer. I’ve seen in re-bloom in the fall. It’s a leaf vegetable that can be eaten raw or cooked like spinach. It’s really choice in salads and very high in vitamin C. It got the name because the Gold Rush miners ate it to prevent scurvy, since they really weren’t eating right. Like any lettuce or most of the salad greens it’s Feminine and Water, but as any high Vitamin C food, its planet correspondence is the Sun. – Sprinkling it inside the home brings happiness, so it’s good in floor washes or new home blessings. Carry it with you for luck and to protect from violence. Put it into sleep pillows or add to a dream catcher to keep away nightmares. I’ve actually slipped it between the mattress and sheets for this purpose. More here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miner%27s_lettuce More on the genus here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claytonia
Today is the anniversary of the death of the Venerable Bede in 735. He was an English monk at the monastery of Saint Peter at Monkwearmouth and its companion monastery, Saint Paul’s, in modern Jarrow, Northeast England, both of which were located in the Kingdom of Northumbria. He is well known as an author and scholar, and his most famous work, Historia ecclesiastica gentis Anglorum (The Ecclesiastical History of the English People) gained him the title “The Father of English History”. He actually had access to a lot of documents that have long since disappeared as well as quite a number of classical sources. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bede and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historia_ecclesiastica_gentis_Anglorum

Love & Light,
Today’s Astro & Calendar
New Moon – The beginning of a new cycle. Keywords for the New phase are: beginning, birth, emergence, projection, clarity. It is the time in a cycle that you are stimulated to take a new action. During this phase the new cycle is being seeded by your vision, inner and outer. Engage in physical activity. Spend time alone. VISUALIZE your goals for the 29.6-day cycle ahead. The new moon is for starting new ventures, new beginnings. Also love and romance, health or job hunting. God/dess aspect: Infancy, the Cosmic Egg, Eyes-Wide-Open – Associated God/dess: Inanna who was Ereshkigal. Phase ends at 12:44am on 5/27. Waxing Moon Magick – The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Phase ends at the Tide Change on 6/9 at 6:10am. Diana’s Bow – On the 3rd day after the new moon you can (weather permitting) see the tiny crescent in the sky, the New Moon holding the Old Moon in her arms. Begin on your goals for the next month. A good time for job interviews or starting a project. Take a concrete step! God/dess aspect: Daughter/Son/Innocence – Associated God/dess: Vesta, Horus. Phase ends on 5/30 at 12:44am.
The waxing crescent Moon returns to the evening sky, guiding the way to low Mars. The thickening crescent Moon, now below the heads of the Gemini twins, shines near Gamma (γ) Geminorum: the brightest star in the twins’ feet. Meanwhile, far to the Moon’s lower right, Mars is passing between the horn-tips of Taurus (Beta and Zeta Tauri, magnitudes 1.6 and 3.0). The three form a diagonal line 8° long from upper right to lower left. Binoculars will help!
Mercury (about magnitude +0.2) is deep in the glow of sunrise, even though is was at greatest elongation on May 17th. Look for it about 20° lower left of Venus. If you spot Mercury, you’ve succeeded in seeing it during its poorest apparition of the year!
Goddess Month of Hera runs from 5/16 – 6/12

Celtic Tree Month of Huath/Hawthorn, May 13 – Jun 9 – I am fair among flowers – Color: Purple – Class: Peasant – Letter: H – Meaning: Being held back for a period of time – Hawthorn – Like willows, hawthorns have many species in Europe, and they are not always easy to tell apart. All are thorny shrubs in the Rose family (Rosaceae), and most have whitish or pinkish flowers. The common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) and midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata (Poiret) DC.) are both widespread. They are common in abandoned fields and along the edges of forests. Both are cultivated in North America, as are several native and Asiatic hawthorns. Curtis Clark

Litha Magick – Summer Solstice Meditation: http://www.cotcg.com/Crystal%20Grove%20Web/Litha.htm
Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths and relax.
At this time of greatest light, we meditate on light as a symbol of spiritual energy. Breathe now gently and deeply and with each breath become aware of the light that surrounds you and the light that is within you — the light that is the energy of Our Great Father.
The light can be any color. It is often imagined as white — like bright sunlight. But it can be any color, any intensity, that is best for you. Blue, green, yellow, purple, rose; we know that light can also be black. The light may stay the same color for you during this meditation or it may change from color to color, or become a blend of many colors.
See the light now in your mind’s eye. This light is all around us, we are bathed in its brightness, energy, and warmth.
Focus on the light until you sense that you and the light are one. This will be your signal that you can now bring the light inside you.
When you bring the light inside you, one way is to let it stream in through your crown chakra at the top of your head. (If it’s already entered another way, that’s okay.)
The light — this healing energy — flows through you now, from your crown, down to your third eye (between your eyebrows) to your throat, your shoulders and your arms, and your hands, to your heart, your stomach, shining brightly at your solar plexus just above your navel, to your sex organs, shining too at your tailbone. The healing light travels down through your legs, your knees, your ankles and your feet. Feel the warmth of this healing energy now as it travels all through your body.
Now sense the one part of your body where the light can shine the brightest and imagine the light there. See it shine.
Now send the light out from that part of your body where it shines the brightest. Send it out a few inches from your body.
Now extend your light out from your body just a little more, then a little more, until your light extends a few feet from your body. Now, if you like, extend your light to reach your sisters. Our lights meet and we are connected by this great light, connected by our renewed knowledge of Our Great Father. Take a few minutes now to sense this energy and this connectedness.
Now take from this light the energy that you need, and know that there is plenty for all. For the Source of this light is endless and ever abundant. Take a moment to experience His abundance, and know that as you partake of His light and His love, so do you give your light and your love. And as you give energy, so do you receive it. And thus does the circle of life continue.
And as we come back now to this time and place, let us give thanks for the return of Our Great Father, and for our return unto Him.
