The sky is lumpy, grey and low. The clouds are tangled in the trees and all the way down to the water in the BackBay and at the bay mouth. This looks like a standard summer weather pattern, where the clouds burn away and roll back, then roll back in late in the afternoon. It’s 61F with a light breeze and no chance of rain in the forecast for a week plus. Tomorrow is only 4 seconds longer than today. Almost Solstice!
Yesterday was our different day. I started by getting the parade pictures put together and advertised so that people can find them. http://wp.me/P2xgQ8-5W5 We pulled out a bunch of different projects. Tempus has his Father’s Day goodie which was a Da Vinci catapult kit and a plate and bowl that he’s sanding. I had a 15-piece biscornu that I wanted to do. Talk about a nightmare. No problem getting the top together, or the bottom, but then when I start stitching one to the other, *ACK*! Amy was in, late in the day.
Today I’ve been out in the garden and my arm hurts from wielding the weeder. 120 this morning, so that’s a total of 500 hawkweed plants (since I’ve been counting) that have been popped loose. Tempus is going to have to run a rake, soon. I harvested a bit of mint, some
oregano and a little thyme, plus pulled up some english ivy that I’m going to put in a planter at the shop. The stuff is lovely, but far too invasive.
So I have herbs to sort and dry, a biscornu to wrassle with, an embroidery jumble page that I’v been pecking at over the last week, maybe some cookery and then we have our Wicca 101 class tonight. Everyone’s been on trips and out and I’ve missed it!

Today’s feast is in honor of Minerva’s Temple in Rome, which had a commemoration of some kind on this date, two months after the anniversary of the temple’s founding. No one’s sure what they did, why or how, just the basic fact of “they did something….” She was the goddess of wisdom and has been honored down through the millennia. There’s a good Wiki article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minerva
Today’s Plant is Big-leaf Maple, Acer macrophyllum. This tree has the largest leaves of any maple. I remember being startled by that when I first moved to Oregon. Have you ever played with the seeds? A twin pair, before they separate, is a good charm for separated lovers. Maple syrup can be made from the sap, although it is subtly different from the taste of sugar maple and a bit thinner. Masculine, Jupiter, Air – Maple leaves are used in prosperity and love spells. When doing a baby blessing, walk the child down a row of people with maple wands to help the child to a long life. Maple has long been used for wands, being easy to work and directing energies very well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acer_macrophyllum

Celtic Tree Month of Duir/Oak, Jun 10 – Jul 7 – The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word “robust”). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Education and knowledge by themselves do not bring inner peace to individuals, families or the society in which they live. But education combined with warmheartedness, a sense of concern for the well-being of others, has much more positive results. If you have a great deal of knowledge, but you’re governed by negative emotions, then you tend to use your knowledge in negative ways. Therefore, while you are learning, don’t forget the importance of warmheartedness. – Dalai Lama
Litha Magick – Studies
At daybreak the rising sun stretches her arms.
At daybreak, the goddess rises to her feet.
She rises, driving out darkness from the land.
She rises, bringing daylight and birdsong to the land.
Beneath her, we move about, enjoying her warmth.
Above us, she moves about, moving westward.
She shines bright on the blooming collibah tree,
with its sprawiling roots, with its spreading branches. ~Dulngulg Song Cycle, Australian Mudbara People
Light grows daily stronger at this time of year, but it is hard to believe it, for the world still seems shrouded in wintery gloom. Yet daily, the sun rises earlier and sets later. Daily, the great round of the year reveals its mysteries once again.
So it is with our lives. We pass through periods where we believe that we will never find happiness again, that we will never find an end to pain, that we will forever suffer from frustration and unease and anxiety. But nothing lasts forever. The greatest pain, like the greatest joy, someday ends. True joy exists in learning to delight in the dance of life, not clinging to a certain day’s beauties or even to its pains. True joy exists in moving like the sun through each day, knowing that it will finally end but also that a new day will always dawn afresh.

Delusions of Greendeur = Sometimes products will try to pander to you consciousness by claiming to be ozone friendly, environmentally-safe, … no animal testing required. These products are called “Delusions of Greendeur”. For example, Glad bags. It actually says on the back of the box, “Can be incenerated safely, providing more fuel value than wood or coal.” What does this mean? You can actually heat your house, cook with Glad bags?
