Minus Tide at 6:47 AM of -2.0 feet. Litha Open Circle tonight at 7pm!
The most important part of weather, first. Heat! Stay hydrated and cool as much as you can! http://www.emergencyemail.org/wxl/OR/wxl41041-2017622181496670.asp?utm_medium=email&utm_source=eewn&utm_campaign=Weather-Alerts-6/22/2017 It’s not supposed to be as bad on the coast but, for us, even 80’s is bad.
71F is nice, if it’d stay that way. We’re under at Heat Advisory for the Valley and for here. The temps already vary from 59 in one spot to 89 in another. I don’t want to even think about tomorrow! There’s some wind, but even on the beaches it’s not over 10mph yet.
Yesterday started as kindof an “ugh” day. Not taking time to be closed over our weekend means that stuff gets put off. That’s the “ugh”. I like working with people, but I like having things cleaned up enough for folks to be able to wander through.
We got the bacon jam going, eventually. A friend came in and we talked for awhile during that and then I spent a lot of the day putting away stuff from boxes. Things are gradually clearing out, but *so* slowly!
No one was in for Sewing, so I collected my stuff to take home to work on. By then the jam was pretty well cooked, but I’m not sure that they didn’t leave out an ingredient. It’s awfully wet for jam. …but tasty. I had a piece of bread with that on it with my supper salad. Yum! Tempus was absolutely thrilled with it, too. Apparently it tastes a lot like a dish that his mom used to make. Amy was in for a bit, later, just to chat, not for sewing, but we did *talk* sewing.
He got in at 5:30, having gotten started early. We’re both dragging, but the Open Circle is tonight. We’ll be ready.

Today’s feast is Jan Kupalo or Ivan Kupala, the Slavic Midsummer festival. Depending on whose version you’re working with (it goes from Poland and the Czech Republic to the far end of Russia) it can mean bonfires, bathing (especially naked bathing in lakes and rivers, flower wreaths worn, floated on rivers or as divination. Running into the woods in search of fern flowers (yes, I know, ferns don’t bloom, but people in those areas “find” babies under ferns or in mushroom patches instead of under cabbage leaves) is another favorite pastime. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Kupala_Day
Kupala – Kresen (June) 23 – (In the Old Russian tongue, Kupala means “bather”). Today the holiday of the Summer Solstice and remembrance of the human sacrifices made in olden times to the Master of things Sub-marine, Jasse (Dragon). All through the night people are celebrating, singing songs, hiking, doing readings (fortune-telling). A blot is held near water. In times gone by, fires were lit in preparation for a sacrifice of a young maiden by drowning in the river. Later, however, the human sacrifice was replaced by a doll made of bread (a loaf-doll).
Today’s plant is St. John’s Wort, Hypericum perforatum, which traditionally blooms at mid-summer on the pagan festival that the feast of St. John the Baptist replaced. It is widely used in the treatment of depression and to ward off evil, both in a medical and magickal sense. Charms made of this herbs, harvested on the summer solstice (or on June 24 or July 7, depending on your culture) make some of the best protection charms (especially against lightning) and good prosperity charms.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_John%27s_wort

Leo the Lion is a constellation of late winter and spring. But he’s not gone yet. As twilight ends, look due west, rather low, for Regulus, his brightest and now lowest star: the forefoot of the Lion stick figure. The Sickle of Leo extends upper right from Regulus. The rest of the Lion’s constellation figure extends for almost three fist-widths to the upper left, to end with his tail star, Denebola, the highest. He’s walking down to the western horizon.
This is the time of year when, after dark, the dim Little Dipper floats straight upward from Polaris (the end of its handle) — like a helium balloon on a string escaped from some summer evening party. Through light pollution, however, all you may see of the Little Dipper are Polaris at its bottom and Kochab, the lip of the Little Dipper’s bowl, at the top.
New Moon (exact at 10:31 p.m. EDT).
Uranus (magnitude 5.9, in Pisces) is low in the glow of dawn.
Jupiter (magnitude –2.1, in Virgo) shines high and bright in the southwest during evening. Spica, magnitude +1.0 and noticeably bluer, glitters 10° left of it. In a telescope, Jupiter has shrunk to 39 arcseconds wide.

Celtic Tree Month of Duir/Oak, Jun 10 – Jul 7 – The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word “robust”). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Summer Magick – Spells and such
Summer Sacred Space Ritual
Tap into the summer spirit for setting up your own sacred space. Start by gathering sea salt and lemon juice. Set up your space in your usual manner. Have a bowl of warm water on the altar and burn sandalwood incense. Add the sea salt and lemon juice to the water. Hold the bowl up to the Goddess, and ask that this liquid be blessed with the powers of purification and protection. Starting in the north, go around your home, sprinkling the water in each room. Be sure to include all doorways, windows, closets, and vents. Say as you go:
May this house be blessed
by the Goddess, so that
only the most beneficial
energies might enter. ~Kristin Madden
Summer Storm Clear-Your-Head Spell – July 14th, 2006
Color of the day: Pink – Incense of the day: Nutmeg
Summer thunderstorms provide a great opportunity for you to clear your head. You’re caught up, no doubt, in the midst of a busy social schedule now, and perhaps looking for a way out of the whirlwind. The Chinese goddess Tien Mu creates lighting by reaching into the earth with one arm and reaching into a thundercloud with the other. She uses two huge mirrors, turning the reflective sides to face one another, to create the flashing bolt. This “enlightening” bolt can be used to clear your mind during a summer storm. See the storm clouds as your mental confusion and the earth as a grounding source. Each time the lightning strikes, imagine the clouds in your mind becoming illuminated, while your feet remain on the ground. When you are finished, thank Tien Mu for her gift. – By: Olivia O’Meir
Delusions of Greendeur – Sometimes products will try to pander to you consciousness by claiming to be ozone friendly, environmentally-safe, … no animal testing required. These products are called “Delusions of Greendeur”. For example, Glad bags. It actually says on the back of the box, “Can be incinerated safely, providing more fuel value than wood or coal.” What does this mean? You can actually heat your house, cook with Glad bags?
