Finally the wedding page is done. You can find it here: http://wp.me/P2xgQ8-68H
We weren’t all that busy at the shop yesterday compared to what we’ve been. That’s not bad. It gave us a chance to catch up on a few things. Despite it, both Tempus and I were really tired and kinda draggy. It’s a good thing that it was our Friday, last day of our work week.
I managed to finally get the House Capuchin write-up down in the early afternoon. Leslie stopped by in the late afternoon and talked with Tempus about the route that she ran for him on Thursday. I was eating left-over fritters and doing paperwork about then.
Had a long chat with a customer about wildfires in the early evening while Tempus was working on a spoon. After she headed home I went back to newsletter things and Tempus got supper. We had an odd one in later, asking if we carried chai tea and some other odd questions.
I got to working again on the wedding write-up and after supper Tempus closed us up and we headed home. I didn’t sleep all that well, woke from a dream that I was directing a play and I couldn’t even get everyone into the same room!
We have berry picking to do this morning, then chores and watering the gardens. I’m hoping he’s going to fix the box garden supports. We’ll head for the shop later, and catch up on chores there. This evening is the paper run. Oughta be good.
Ishi was a Yahi from Central California, the last survivor of his tribe. After everyone else died or was killed he lived on his own for several years, finally emerging to live in a museum for the rest of his life, dying of TB in 1916. He taught people at the museum a lot of the techniques of weapon-making and various implements, particularly those in knapped flint, as well as making numerous recordings on wax cylinders of his native language. People are realizing that he was not of pure Yahi ancestry, that the surviving members of the tribes probably intermarried as the population dwindled. There’s a good bio on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishi
Today’s Plant is the Coast Willow, Salix hookeriana. I’ve been mistaking it for pussy willow ever since I moved out here! Pussy Willows are a subset of the willows which also include osiers (think “wicker” for their uses). They’re all Saliciae from which, salicylic acid, the medicine Aspirin, was derived. Willow magick is Feminine, Moon and Water. Willow wands can be used for healing, to sleep with for more vivid dreams, Drawing Down the Moon, or for protection in underworld journeying. The Willow will bring the blessings of the Moon upon those who plant it or have it on their property. Willows can be used to bind together witch’s brooms and a forked willow branch is widely used in water witching and dowsing. New Moon magick, creativity, fertility, female rights of passage, inspiration, emotion, binding. Love, Love divination, protection, healing. It is also known as the tree of immortality because of its ability to re grow from a fallen branch in moist ground. These properties apply to all forms of willow, but the Coast Willow has the properties of endurance, tolerance and stubbornness as well. There’s more info here:http://en.wikipedia.org

There were four apples on the bough,
Half gold half red, that one might know
The blood was ripe inside the core;
The colour of the leaves was more
Like stems of yellow corn that grow
Through all the gold June meadow’s floor. – Algernon Charles Swinburne (1837–1909)
Prayer for Mabon – Author Unknown
As autumn returns to earth’s northern hemisphere,
and day and night are briefly,
balanced at the equinox,
may we remember anew how fragile life is —-
human life, surely,
but also the lives of all other creatures,
trees and plants,
waters and winds.
May we make wise choices in how and what we harvest,
may earth’s weather turn kinder,
may there be enough food for all creatures,
may the diminishing light in our daytime skies
be met by an increasing compassion and tolerance
in our hearts.
GODDESSES OF PEACE INVOCATION
Goddesses of Peace…
Pax, Mary, Quan Yin, Tara
Gaia, Mother of the Earth,
We call upon you with respect.
Mothers of Compassion,
Mothers of Peace and Mercy,
We ask for your wise counsel.
Please help us not to give in
To the everyday stresses
And resentments that assail us.
Help us connect with your Light
And the love and grace you bring.
Blessed Mothers, we thank you
For the nurturing and blessings
That you pour out upon us every day;
Grant that our lives also be a blessing. – © September 17, 2008, Beth Clare Johnson (Mystic Amazon)
Silliness – Quick Ones — A jumper cable walks into a bar. The bartender says, “I’ll serve you, but don’t start anything.”
