Minus Tide at 5:29 PM of -0.3 feet.

The sunroom is full of sunshine. I don’t know how I was able to sleep through that, but it’s dimming and brightening as though there are some clouds. 57F and the wind is at 3mph here, but all the exposed spots are reading in the teens or more! It looks like it’ll be nice through Sunday, but then the rain will be back. Good timing for Spring Break!

Yesterday I really didn’t feel so hot, still. Mostly it was the tired-out that I get from a bad bout of asthma. I kept writing, though, so at least I was getting something done.

The Duckmeister stopped by with some eggs. The ducks are finally laying and she’s going to have goose eggs, too! …so plans immediately started hatching….

We were busy in the early afternoon, but things got quiet after that. Tempus spent an hour talking to an old friend, then some time in back. I wrote steadily.

We had a brat, baked potato and peas for supper. He headed out after that at about 8:30. I went in back and worked on sorting easter stuff for awhile. He called a couple of times from the store and then when he actually got on the road at midnight, starting the Beaver Creek/Bayview loop around 2 and picking me up around 3:30.

I had the boxes of easter stuff sorted before 2, but it’s *still* in two boxes of egg decorating stuff. At least, except for special kits it’s all sorted *together*: stickers in one bag, dippers in another, egg wraps in a 3rd, etc. …and it’s not so tightly stuffed. There’s a big bag of the discarded boxes and plastics.

The last part of the run was nice. There was a little drizzle, but not enough to worry over and just cool enough to be comfortable with the open window and the heater warming toes. We talked politics until we started getting depressed, then cheese, then friends, then more cheese until we were done and home around 6:30.

Tempus was up and down for several hours mid-morning with phone calls that he took out into the sunroom trying not to wake me. Of course, the window’s open, but he didn’t

know that. I dozed back off each time. He’s still down and I may crawl back into bed, since I’m still a little sleepy. Whatever illness nailed us last weekend is passing off, but we’re both still pretty tired.

This is our one day this week to do chores, too. There’s laundry and vaccuming and I really need to get some plants down to the garden instead of next to where we drive in. We’re going to take it easy, though.

This was on US 52 in Ohio just across the border from Ashland Kentucky. That’s one big rock! Supposedly when it was removed a squashed coyote was found underneath and witnesses to the fall said that a roadrunner was seen streaking away, moments after. 🙂

650px-Dianthus_caryophyllus_L_(Clove_pink)Today’s Plant is Gillyflower, Clove Pink, Carnation, all names that are used for, Dianthus caryophyllus. This plant has been hybridized to the point where the basic flower and the florist’s varieties (which are all that show up in the article….) don’t look a bit alike, although they keep the scent. These also make a yummy tea. Even a single flower in a cup of green tea is enough! There is a lot of symbolism to the flower, depending on which culture you’re in, although they generally are thought to mean love, fascination, and distinction. They were used particularly in crowns of victory in ancient Europe. – Masculine, Sun, Fire, 800px-Dianthus_caryophyllus_001Jupiter – All-purpose protection, in healing for strength and energy (so perfect for hospital bouquets!) and for healing of broken hearts, add red, rather than pink blossoms. White are occasionally used for the protection of children or those who travel. Dried petals make a great addition to sachets, potpourris or incense since they strengthen the properties of other plants and herbs.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dianthus_caryophyllus

feast 0328 korunovaceZlaty Amos, the Czech Teachers Day, is held annually on the birthday of John Amos Comenius, a famous educator of the middle ages. Czech students nominate the teachers whose approach most motivates and inspires them to the competition Zlatý Ámos (Golden Amos). The coronation of “Golden Amos” (or the “teachers of the year” as we would say in the US) take place yearly on March 28, and yes, they really wear crowns! See more here (website in Czech, but there are pictures) :http://www.zlatyamos.cz/ and on Comenius here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Amos_Comenius

Today’s Astro & Calendar

Waxing Moon Magick – The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Phase ends at the Tide Change on 3/31 at 5:37am. Waxing Gibbous Moon – From seven to fourteen days after the new moon. For spells that need concentrated work over a ¼ moon cycle this is the best time for constructive workings. Aim to do the last working on the day of the Full moon, before the turn. Keywords for the Gibbous phase are: analyze, prepare, trust. It is the time in a cycle to process the results of the actions taken during the First Quarter. During this phase you are gathering information. Give up making judgments; it will only lead to worry. Your knowledge is incomplete. Laugh. Analyze and filter. LOOK WITHIN. God/dess aspect: Maiden/Youth, but in the uncommitted phase, the Warriors – Associated God/desses: Dion, Dionysius, Venus, Thor. Phase ends at the Full on 3/29 at 5:37pm.

Mars was only a tiny 6.4 arcseconds wide when Damian Peach used the 1-meter Chilescope to take this stacked-video image remotely. “Amazing to think that Mars will be almost four times as wide by the end of July,” he writes. “We are in for a real treat!” South is up. Syrtis Major is close to the right limb, and the Hellas basin far to its south is bright. A patch of orographic clouds is lower left of center, created by winds passing over Elysium Mons. “The famous Gale crater, location of the Curiosity rover, is located at the end of the longer of the tuning-fork prongs of Gomer Sinus.” Those extend from the lower edge of dark Cimmerium Mare above center.
Now Regulus shines to the Moon’s upper right after dark.
Mars rises a bit before 3 a.m. local daylight time and appears about 20° high in the southeast by 5 a.m. The magnitude 0.3 Red Planet lies against the backdrop of northern Sagittarius. Its eastward motion relative to the background stars carries it to a position 3° west-southwest of Saturn this morning, while the 7th-magnitude globular star cluster M28 lies 1.3° south of Mars. As the Red Planet’s eastward sojourn continues, it will pass within 1.5° of Saturn in early April. When viewed through a telescope this morning, Mars shows an 8″-diameter disk and a few subtle surface details.
Venus has a close conjunction with Uranus this evening. From North America, the two planets lie a mere 4′ apart — less than 15 percent the diameter of the Full Moon. This is the closest the two worlds have been since the same date in 2003. Uranus glows at 6th magnitude, however, and will be a challenge to see in twilight. Track Venus through binoculars as the sky darkens and watch for the more distant planet to pop into view.
Jupiter (magnitude –2.4, in Libra) rises around 11 p.m. daylight-saving time and shines as the brightest point in the late-night sky. It’s highest in the south, presenting the sharpest views in a telescope, around 3 or 4 a.m., well before dawn.

Celtic Tree Month of Fearn/Alder, Mar 18 – Apr 14. Fern (FAIR-n) Alder – The common alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertner) is common along lowland rivers, where it grows with aspens, poplars, and willows. Like willows, alders sprout from stumps. This allows them to regenerate after heavy flooding. In protect sites they may grow to 20 m (65 feet) tall. Their leaves are more blunt-tipped than most North American alders, which look more like the grey alder (A. incana (L.) Moench). This species is more common in the mountains of Europe, and is not restricted to moist soils. Like ashes, European alders are not widely cultivated in North American (they are often sold as black alders), but several native species are. Alder wood is said to resist rotting when it is wet, and was the wood of choice for pilings in many regions. Alders are members of the Birch family (Betulaceae).

Magick – Lore

The Legend of Dogwood Winter – Incense of the day: Maple

The rural people of Appalachia are keen observers of nature and weather. Over the years they’ve
accumulated a wealth of knowledge concerning seasonal weather lore. One of these legends concerns a natural phenomenon that occurs each spring known as “dogwood winter.” In April, the Appalachian landscape is starred white by the blossoms of the dogwood tree. But during this blooming, there is always a cold spell, which brings a dramatic drop in temperature and an occasional snow flurry. This became known to the old-timers as dogwood winter, and I’ve observed it too, occurring almost every year without fail. Farmers and gardeners expect it and curtail planting until warmer weather returns. See if you can learn more about the weather lore in your area. It’s not only fun, but it will help you understand the cycles of nature, and this can enhance your magic. – By: James Kambos, Llewellyn and GrannyMoon’s Morning Feast

The Magical Tool for Your Sun-SignMore Guidance Solutions  – Adapted from Self-Discovery Through the Tarot, by Claudia Genest (Findhorn Press, 2003). – While most of us know that a good sun-sign horoscope can teach us about our characteristics, and even our soul-task in life, did you know that several sun signs have a  magical tool given at birth to help us? We could all use a little help. Find out what the magical tool is that can help you achieve your spirit-goals.

Taurus, April 20-May 21: Your magical tool is the PENTACLE. The pentacle is the combination of all previous symbols. It is the material of earth–real and solid. The pentacle represents humanity, duality, outer life, work, and the experience of the body. It is also material success and practical health as well as home and earth connections. It represents the knot of endless love. The pentacle is the most human of all the geometric forms. The pentacle energy is faultless in the five senses, the five fingers, and five pure virtues of faithfulness (cleanliness, compassion, courtesy, fellowship, frankness). It is the symbol of balance. Its foundation is feminine wisdom. It is the everlasting fountain of creativity. Pentacle energy anchors every individual in the real world. It recognizes what needs to be done. The magic of earth resides in the pentacle as well as the capacity to survive. It is magical because it survives. In nature, it is earth, soil, and all life. Pentacle energy is active and creates consciousness. It lives in love of harmonious change. It mediates in “win or lose” situations. To sum up the path pentacle energy takes: It lives single and free, like a tree on the prairie. At the same time it is a kindred spirit living in the forest.

Leo, July 23- Aug 22: Your magical tool is the ROD. The rod expresses the active and enthusiastic masculine principle. Rod power enables creative form and dynamic self-assertion. The rod represents enterprising and pure spirit, action, growth, life energy, identity, and direction. The rod is the symbol of building from a spring of passion. Heat flows through the body and causes an action that regenerates the cells. It is comparable to sun energy. Rod energy needs constant change and takes initiative when new thought is put into action. Self-trust believes that every obstacle can be surpassed. The path that ROD takes: All challenges and obstacles can be transformed.

Libra, Sept 23-Oct 22: Your magical tool is the SWORD. The sword represents light and clarity. It is power and the fairness of a triumph where mistakes are permitted. Problems are removed. The sword helps to recognize the connection between personal experience and the condition of the world. It is like a butterfly, the completion of the cycle by way of metamorphosis. The word represents willpower, understanding, enthusiasm, courage, and passion. It is a strong mental energy allowing insight and decision-making. It represents language, intellect, and the world of thoughts. The sword is the symbol for strict discipline aimed at constructing without the losses that may occur. This energy recognizes the logic of things. Any deceptions are penetrated in order to uncover the truth. In nature, it may be seen as the whirlwind or the movement of air. In the mind, it causes the subconscious to work through any structures that create the manifest world. It gains its strength through experiencing difficulties. The sword cuts through opposition in an attempt to end all differences. Sword energy will sacrifice itself and forget itself., so it needs to be given a direction. To sum up the path the sword takes: To be strong without being hard is an acrobatic act.
