Hi, folks!

Featured photo by Ken Gagne. Minus Tide at 9:10 PM of -0.5 feet. We’re not going to be able to open on time this morning. There’s still too much stuff in the aisles.

I don’t see any clouds, just some bits of fog that haven’t burned off, yet! At 8am it’s 46F and the wind at 5mph.

Yesterday got going slowly…well… Wednesday…. but Tempus took off to run errands in Newport. My joints were complaining enough (weather changes) that I stayed put. The folks who brought me the mushroom last week brought me a whole bagful this time!

So, I waxed some ink bottles (to seal them) and did some picking up and putting away and finding bits, made a spot for the utensils rolly, then a spot for grocery sacks. I need to make some plastic bag dispensers, though. I haven’t a clue what happened to the one that we had. After that I came up front and got some things moved for the day’s project… and waited for Tempus and waited…

By 6pm the light was slanting, all reddish-gold across the north end of the shop. I haven’t seen it on the candles since late last winter. It was throwing sparkles from the necklace in the crystals aisle. …then suddenly the light went out. The sun was falling behind the trees and the shadow so those and the buildings crept up the wall.

…and it got dark.

Once Tempus was back we had supper and then got back to work. Eventually I ran out of what I could manage so went in back and took a nap. He kept going and we were there well into the night.

Around 1:30 we stopped to watch the crew launch for the ISS. …and it *failed*! Something happened with a booster, but the crew are ok. ….They’re ok… unlike the Challenger and the Columbia…. They’re ok.

…and it was past 4am when we quit. We’re not done. I don’t think we’re going to have to stay closed all day, but we’re not able to open on time.

Today

This is a Ken Gagne photo. When you see the tripod, right of the top center of the pic, the message for the upcoming stormy days is obvious! The guy survived the experience, but many don’t. Don’t go after the fantastic shot and lose your life! Or at best, equipment!

Today’s Astro & Calendar

Waxing Moon Magick – The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Phase ends at the Tide Change on 10/24 at 9:45am. Diana’s Bow – On the 3rd day after the new moon you can (weather permitting) see the tiny crescent in the sky, the New Moon holding the Old Moon in her arms. Begin on your goals for the next month. A good time for job interviews or starting a project. Take a concrete step! God/dess aspect: Daughter/Son/Innocence – Associated God/dess: Vesta, Horus. Phase ends on 10/13 at 8:47am.

The waxing crescent Moon returns to evening twilight sky, posing with Jupiter and then Saturn. The visibility of fainter objects in bright twilight is exaggerated here.

As twilight fades, a thin crescent Moon hangs over Jupiter low in the southwest, as shown above. Look low in the west-southwest after sunset and you’ll see a slender crescent Moon standing 4° above Jupiter. The pretty pair stands nearly 10° above the horizon an hour after sunset and sets shortly after the last vestiges of twilight fade away.

Constellation Libra

Jupiter shines at magnitude –1.8 among the background stars of Libra the Scales. Although it is the brightest point of light in the sky, it lies too low to show much detail through a telescope.
Neptune, in Aquarius, is harder at magnitude 7.8. By mid-evening they are well up in the east and southeast, respectively. Finder charts for Uranus and Neptune, or see the September Sky & Telescope, page 48.

Gort/Ivy  Sep 30 – Oct 27 – Gort – (GORT), ivy – Ivy (Hedera helix L.) is also a vine, growing to 30 m (100 feet) long in beech woods and around human habitations, where it is widely planted as a ground cover. Ivy produces greenish flowers before Samhain on short, vertical shrubby branches. The leaves of these flowering branches lack the characteristic lobes of the leaves of the rest of the plant. Like holly, ivy is evergreen, its dark green leaves striking in the bare forests of midwinter. Ivy is widely cultivated in North America. It is a member of the Ginseng family (Araliaceae).

The Leaves are Falling Down
(to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell”)

The leaves are falling down
The leaves are falling down
School is here and fall is near
The leaves are falling down.

The leaves are falling down
The leaves are falling down
Some are red and some are brown
The leaves are falling down.

The leaves are falling down
The leaves are falling down
They tickle your nose and touch your toes
The leaves are falling down. – June Haggard

Samhain Magick – Poems/Prayers

Halloween Prayer

From ghoulies and ghosties
And long-leggedy beasties
And things that go bump in the night,
Good Lord, deliver us! Source: Scottish prayer

Samhain Prayer – May the things that you cast come to be, harming none
May your home fires burn with warmth and wonder
May the leaves blow on the winds tapping against your windows
And the candles and incense lit and glowing…..waiting for their time
Apples on the mantel
And the pictures of those passed on

May you find the veil thin
And the spells be cast
And the spirit uplifting you
To a place unexact
Where the forests are deep
The woods are dense and the leaves sweeping about you

May you all be blessed
with the transitions of the seasons
May you honor your ancestors
And hold them dear
You all hold a special place in my heart
For we are all one.
Happy Samhain

Samhain Dream by Myria/Brighid – October 1999

It is Samhain …The Night of Shadows.
The Circle is cast around the fire,
And through the darkness, we glance,
For the veils are thin, in this sacred night!

Ancient voices around us,
Whispering old and forgotten songs,
While we dance the Spiral Dance,
To meet Her.

And there She comes,
The Lady of the Gate!
Power and compassion evolving us,
As a dark but comforting wave.

Beautiful Queen of the Dark Night!
With Her mantle of raven’s feathers,
And eyes deep with wisdom.
Cerridwenn!

She opens Her arms,
in a welcoming embrace,
We feel around us the flow of love,
Of Her Eternal Grace.

And then we hear Her voice,
Melodious and grave,
That speaks from inside our soul,
As an echo in a cave.

Blessed Daughters of My Heart,
I hear your prayers from afar.
And that is why I came tonight!
Do not despair when the times are hard!
Do not abandon the Path you found!

For time has come for My return,
And you, Loved Ones, shall open the way,
Singing my name as the ancient bards.
I am always with you, do never doubt that!

I am the Old and the Young One!
I am the Keeper of the Gate!
I am the Master of Time!

I am the Dark Goddess of Death!
I am the Bright Goddess of Dawn!
I am The One!
I am Cerridwenn!
