It looks and feels as thought it’s raining, but the pavement is dry. Completely clouded over and not bright. Soft light today. 55F, wind at 3mph, AQI11, UV6 and we have a chance of rain in the late afternoon. That’s the last for a week, though.
Yesterday I flew out the door, heading for the library. We were set up in time for the kids to start coming in. They had their egg hunt and then the photography started. We had one screamer and two “too shy”, but other than that and trying to squish everyone into the green screen’s space it went pretty well.
…4 hours of sleep, though….
When I woke the mold load in the shop was pretty bad, enough to set off my asthma. We lost a ceiling tile and so all that stuff is leaking down into the shop and has been for days. At least Tempus had the doors open, but my chest hurt….. so he got a piece of plastic over it until he can fix it.
…so I developed pictures and then had an awful thought…. where was the green screen software? …not on this computer… not on the laptop Tempus uses… not on the other laptop…. he finally found it on the laptop back on his desk. I must have had it in the home computer, not the shop computer, although the pictures are all on the computer I’ve been using at the shop for quite some time, now. I did have it in a backup and starting working on getting it re-installed. Tempus found it in the other laptop, too.
By 5pm I was done going through and editing the photos, so next up was to try greenscreening them. …and the software wouldn’t install on the main computer…. So I went back and forth because I couldn’t see the photos on the laptop, not well enough to work with them. …and Corel wouldn’t load there….
Tempus went out to the grocery at around 7:30. He was concerned that we didn’t have much in the way of protein dishes without me having to cook quite a bit. We ate when he got back, then he closed up and headed for Newport.
I worked on photos for quite some time and then fought the computer programs for several hours. Around 3am I started writing out one of the stories at I told at the All Fool’s Feast a couple of weekends ago and got it done and published around 4:30.
The papers had been late and it was nearly 2am when Tempus started the regular route. By 4am he was starting Seal Rock and he picked me up at 5:40. It was quite clouded up to my disappointment. We didn’t finish until past 8am, so we ended up over-sleeping at bit this morning and only got the shop open at 11:30.
Today we have to get the rest of the sorted herb stuff into the back again. We’re both yawning, but Tempus needs to go back into Newport to get some ceiling tile to replace that piece that we lost. When he does he’s going to take a shopping list and do that, as well.
Today’s Plant is Coltsfoot, Petasites frigidus var. palmatus. One of the best cough remedies out there, this is often smoked to help cases of chronic bronchitis and asthma. It is also made into cough syrups often combined with horehound. This is another plant where the medicinal and magickal uses seem to go together. Feminine, Venus, water – Add to love sachets and use in spell of peace and tranquility. The leaves, when smoked, can cause visions, and aid with breathing problems. .More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petasites_frigidus
Today is Primrose Day in the UK in honor of Benjamin Disrali. He was a favorite of Queen Victoria and very much a conservative. After his death a Primrose League was founded to keep his principles and aims going. Why Primrose? These were his favorite flower. Victoria sent a wreath of them to his funeral and every year on this date his statue and grave are decorated with them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primrose_Day

Full Moon (exact at 7:12 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time). This evening look for Spica about a fist and a half to the Moon’s upper right, and brighter Arcturus about twice as far to the Moon’s upper left.
Jupiter continues to grow more prominent before dawn. The giant planet rises shortly after midnight local daylight time and climbs nearly 30° high in the south as twilight starts to paint the sky. It also shines at magnitude –2.4, making it the brightest point of light in the sky until Venus rises during twilight. A telescope reveals at least two conspicuous cloud belts on Jupiter’s 42″-diameter disk and the four bright Galilean moons.
Venus-Mercury challenge continues. Venus (magnitude –3.9) and much fainter Mercury (about magnitude +0.2) are both very low in the brightening dawn. Pick up Venus near the east horizon about 20 or 25 minutes before sunrise. Then use binoculars or a wide-field telescope to look for little Mercury 4½° down to its lower left.

Celtic Tree Month of Saille/Willow, Apr 15 – May 12
Runic half-month of Mannaz/ Man, April 14-28 A time when the archetypal reality of the human condition should be meditated upon. Nigel Pennick, The Pagan Book of Days, Destiny Books, Rochester, Vermont, USA, 1992, 1992

Celtic Tree Month of Saille/Willow, Apr 15 – May 12 – The Willow in the Tree alphabet stands for the female and lunar rhythms of life. She is water-seeking, thriving from preference on the damp margins of lakes and streams or across the low-lying water meadows. Water and the tidal movements of the sea are governed by the pull of the moon. The moon in its monthly rhythms is female, contrasting with the male sun’s daily and yearly turnings. In several ways, the Celts held women in higher regard than we do today. On the material level, women were property owners, and whoever controlled the property controlled the marriage. Women of all types and ages appeared in the Celtic pantheon, the spiritual strength and life-giving qualities given by both female and male recognized equally. There were colleges of Druidesses – learned women and teachers – respected equally for their gifts of see-ship, often expressed through dreams, or night visions.
Magical Associations: Romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magic for women.

A flower is looking through the ground,
Blinking at the April weather;
Now a child has seen the flower:
Now they go and play together. – –Harold Monro (1879–1932)
May day is a good time to promote love and happiness in your life. To do so, use pastel-colored candles, as many as possible, and a large bowl of fresh water with flower petals floating in it. Adorn your ritual space with flowers and new leaves, and sing the following verse to the spirits of the holiday:
Queen of the May,
A more joyous time has never been.
and children sing,
Fairies bless each river and sacred spring.
All life is joyous
and we revel,
In being healthy, happy, and alive.
The Morris Dancers
Stomp the Earth,
Wakening Gaia with blissful mirth.
in vibrant hue,
Signaling all Earth’s life is born anew.
Magic springs underfoot from the ground.
Love and passions
fill the air,
Celebration and revelry is everywhere.
On this day,
My true love come to me; Let us share our hearts in festivity.
the Maypole round,
Laughter and music freely abound.
Joyousness and reverence mix together now,
Blessing virgin, bird, and cow.
Danu’s Fairy Folk now draw near,
Their laughter and magic is growing clear.
I share this day
with those I love,
Healing Sun streams from above.
the Queen of the May,
So blessed be this sacred day.
So mote it be. ~Abby Willowroot – )0( Visit Crone’s Corner on Yahoo http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Crones_Corner/
A Love Charm – http://www.chroniclesofavalon.com/beltane2003print.html
A Love Charm by Seraphina-m’Anat
Caveat – this is a charm that should not be used on a random “target,” but rather as an enhancement to an established relationship. The reason for this is that, in my experience with this charm ::nudge, nudge, wink, wink::, the essence of the two partners become intertwined, and the charm will happily ensnare you as it bewitches your mate. Spring normally gets us all happily randy, and this charm adds a little more passion and intensity to this feeling. Now, some may call this manipulative of another’s will, but let me offer the witch’s perspective….my hubby knew full well I was a witch when he married me and hasn’t complained so far of any effects of “boosting” so to speak, LOL. Effective enhancements to this charm are self-pampering, as well as spouse pampering; candle light dinners, foods traditionally know to be aphrodisiacs, and exotic music. Silks, velvets, and satins don’t hurt either ::impish grin:: A reliable baby-sitter for any wee’uns in the house is a plus too, if you have children. Is it any wonder that this is one of the witches favourite holidays?
By all that lives on land, in sea,
By the ebbing and the flow,
Each time that you do think of me,
Your love for me shall grow.
By numbers odd and numbers even,
By the sacred power of three times three,
Passion for me in your thoughts weave in,
All thy thoughts shall be of me.
By velvet cords of longing,
Your heart to me belonging,
By the white rose and the red,
I am the fire in thy head.
No peace nor increase shall you find,
Until your hand is joined in mine.
