Daily Stuff 5-18-19 Mt. St. Helens

Hi, folks!

Featured photo by Daniel Schoon. Minus Tide at 7:09 AM of -1.2 feet. Herbs at 11. Sewing at 3pm.

It keeps acting like it’s going to rain (due by 3pm), but the clouds are also thin enough to let sunshine through….sortof… enough to make flickers on the ceiling from passing cars’ reflections, anyway. 59F, wind at 1mph, AQI12, UV5, pollen still high, 0.01 inches of rain. There’s a big spike of rain coming this afternoon and again Monday evening, the rest of the week looks drier, except for next Saturday.

Not a lot happened yesterday. Tempus spent a lot of time on the computer, dozing. I spent quite awhile snipping bamboo leaves from stems, dozing. 🙂 I did get a little writing done and he got a little done on taking things to storage.

We did have a few people in shopping and one couple who wanted to sell us a large crystal. We closed around 7pm and just collapsed.

I was up for a bit during the night… a little embroidery, a little research…. a little.

Today we got open on time. No one’s here for Herbs, so I’m taking a little time getting myself going. Sewing workshop at 3pm.

220px-Iris_tenaxToday’s plant is Oregon IrisIris tenax. I grew up calling iris flowers “ladies’ ball gowns”. Local peoples used the tough leaves for making string and rope mostly for snares. –Feminine, Venus, Water – sacred to Iris and Juno, their magicks are used for purification and magicks including 3’s. The three petals stand for faith, wisdom and valor and can be used in magicks to promote these qualities. More on Oregon Iris here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_tenax More on Iris in general here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iris_%28plant%29

200px-MSH80_eruption_mount_st_helens_05-18-80-dramatic-editToday’s Mt. St. Helens day, the anniversary of the eruption in 1981 that killed a number of people and disrupted life in the PNW for quite some time. “Vancouver, Vancouver, this is it!” were the last words of David
Johnston, a geologist on the team of those monitoring the volcano, knowing that his life was on the line, as close as he was to the obviously ready-to-blow mountain, chose to give other people some warning. Innkeeper Harry Truman chose to stay with his life-long dream of a resort in the area. 55 others also perished, mostly loggers and people who lived along the path of the major lahar that actually crossed I-5, making it unusable for a period of time! Several movies and documentaries have been made about the eruption and the area now has a lot of museums dedicated to the events and the remediation of the damage. Full Moon over Los Angeles
This week’s Full Moon provides a great photo opportunity for those with a creative streak. In this view from July 13, 2014, the imager captured Luna rising behind the skyline of Los Angeles. Because the thick atmosphere near the horizon scatters shorter-wavelength light, the Moon took on a deep orange-red color.
Alex Pollini

Full Moon (exact at 5:11 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time). The Moon rises around sunset. After dark, it shines above the rising head of Scorpius. Our satellite looks completely illuminated all night. You can find it low in the southeast as darkness falls and peaking in the south around 1 a.m. local daylight time. The Moon begins the evening among the background stars of eastern Libra the Scales, but it crosses into northern Scorpius the Scorpion shortly before midnight across eastern North America and a bit after midnight from the continent’s western half.
There is a bonus object in Venus’ vicinity this morning. Look for 6th-magnitude Uranus 1.2° due north (to the upper left) of Venus. It should show up through 7×50 binoculars shortly after the pair rises if you have a clear sky and an unobstructed eastern horizon.
Neptune is very low in the east-southeast before dawn begins.

Celtic Tree Month of Huath/Hawthorn, May 13 – Jun 9 – I am fair among flowers – Color: Purple – Class: Peasant – Letter: H – Meaning: Being held back for a period of time – Hawthorn – Like willows, hawthorns have many species in Europe, and they are not always easy to tell apart. All are thorny shrubs in the Rose family (Rosaceae), and most have whitish or pinkish flowers. The common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna Jacq.) and midland hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata (Poiret) DC.) are both widespread. They are common in abandoned fields and along the edges of forests. Both are cultivated in North America, as are several native and Asiatic hawthorns. Curtis Clark

Playful Meditation Wave Tube – Incense of the day: Ginger

To make a meditation wave tube, you will need a clear, thin bottle with a secure lid, some baby or
vegetable oil, some food coloring, and some water. Make this simple tool for whenever you need a little distracting, calming energy drawn to you. Fill your bottle two-thirds full with the oil, then top it off with water. A test tube is ideal for this, but a twenty-ounce water or soda bottle will also work. Add twelve to twenty drops of food coloring, close the lid, and shake well to mix. To use, simply tilt the bottle gently back and forth, sending the waves of color rolling. Or, shake it like crazy and watch the light reflect off the smaller beads of water suspended in the oil. For a special touch, add a pinch or two of fine glitter before you seal the bottle. – By: Laurel Reufner , and GrannyMoon’s Morning Feast

  4. Secure ropes in this position with hot glue.
  5. Thread the twine from the back of the love knot through the wide loops and tie in the center.
  6. Unravel a 8 inch section of twist paper. Fold the ends to meet in the center, and press flat. Gather the center.
