Daily Stuff 6-15-19 Beachcombers’

Hi, folks!

Featured photo by OCD Photography. Minus Tide at 6:11 AM of -1.1 feet. No Herbs Workshop today! Parade at Noon! Sewing Workshop at 3pm.

Blue, blue sky, with some white puffy bits! It’s just slightly chill, which is perfect for being out in the sun. Where’s my hat?  54F, wind at 6mph and gusting, AQI8, UV8. It’s looking more like a teeny bit of rain in the tail end of next weekend.

Yesterday’s notesall vanished when the computer stuck solid in the evening. Nor mally, they save on a regular basis as I go but something wasn’t working right!

Pretty much what we got done was more cleaning/sorting. Tempus went out to do laundry late in the afternoon. I got some embroidery done. The birth sampler is *almost* there! All the main blocks are filled in. A couple of oopsies still need to be picked out and re-done and maybe some tiny flower or starbursts added in spots.

Goodness! I thought that was a whole bike club, but Tempus says it was just 4 bikes!

Take a look at today’s Google Doodle. It’s about Jingle Dress lore and performance.

The highway is open still. So is the shop! The sun is shining and the air smells lovely. It’s a great day for the Beachcombers’ parade. They usually close our side of the highway between 11 and 11:30, but you can still get through, albeit slowly.

We’ll be open all day, but I will be going outside during the parade to photograph.

Happy Beachcombers’!

The Magna Carta (Great Charter) was signed at the field of Runnymede on this day! The charter was the first document declaring that the king or queen had to abide by the laws of the land. Exactly 800 years ago, in June 1215, feudal barons gathered outside London to define and limit the powers of King John, forcing him to affix his royal seal to the charter. Wikipedia article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magna_Carta and another interesting article here: http://www.history.com/news/history-lists/6-things-you-might-not-know-about-the-magna-carta?cmpid=Social_FBPAGE_HISTORY_20150615_192842250&linkId=14914901  Transcript here – https://www.bl.uk/collection-items/magna-carta-1215

Jean-Baptiste-DenysToday is the anniversary in 1667 of the first successful blood transfusion, animal to human, although the allergic reactions would have killed the patients if the quantities had been larger. It wasn’t until 1902 and the discovery of human blood types that transfusions actually became worthwhile.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_transfusion#History  …and more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Baptiste_Denys

Love & Light,

Today’s Astro & Calendar

Waxing Moon Magick – The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Phase ends at the Tide Change on 6/17 at 1:31am. Waxing Gibbous Moon – From seven to fourteen days after the new moon. For spells that need concentrated work over a ¼ moon cycle this is the best time for constructive workings. Aim to do the last working on the day of the Full moon, before the turn. Keywords for the Gibbous phase are: analyze, prepare, trust. It is the time in a cycle to process the results of the actions taken during the First Quarter. During this phase you are gathering information. Give up making judgments; it will only lead to worry. Your knowledge is incomplete. Laugh. Analyze and filter. LOOK WITHIN. God/dess aspect: Maiden/Youth, but in the uncommitted phase, the Warriors – Associated God/desses: Dion, Dionysius, Venus, Thor. Phase ends at the Full on 6/15 at 1:31pm. Full Moon The day of, the day before, and day after the true Full Moon. “And better it be when the moon is full!”! Prime time for rituals for prophecy, for spells to come to fruition, infusing health and wholeness, etc. A good time for invoking deity. FRUITION Manifesting goals, nurturing, passion, healing, strength, power. Workings on this day are for protection, divination. “extra power”, job hunting, healing serious conditions Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. God/dess Aspect: Mother/Abundance/Kingship – – Associated God/desses: Danu, Cerridwen, Gaia, Aphrodite, Isis, Jupiter, Amon-Ra. Phase ends on 6/18 at 1:31pm.

The waxing gibbous Moon now passes Antares and Jupiter, forming a nice triangle with them on the 15th.

Now the bright Moon forms a not-quite-equilateral triangle with Jupiter to its lower left and Antares to its lower right, as shown here. Think photo opportunity. The triangle is 10° from end to end, so use a moderately long lens. Or even try zooming in with a phone camera braced rock-steady.

Saturn – The ringed planet’s eastward motion relative to the background stars came to a halt in April, foreshadowing the world’s upcoming opposition and peak visibility. – NASA/ESA/A. Simon (GSFC) and the OPAL Team/J. DePasquale (STScI)

Although Saturn won’t reach opposition and peak visibility until next month, observers will be hard-pressed to see its current appearance as inferior. The ringed planet rises around 10 p.m. local daylight time and appears highest in the south around 3 a.m. Saturn shines at magnitude 0.2 and stands out against the background stars of northern Sagittarius. If you target the beautiful world through a telescope, you’ll see its 18″-diameter disk surrounded by a ring system that spans 41″ and tilts 24° to our line of sight.
Jupiter (magnitude –2.6, in southern Ophiuchus) is at opposition on June 10th. This week it glares low in the southeast by late twilight. Antares, much fainter at magnitude +1.0, twinkles about 10° to its right. Jupiter is highest in the south by around midnight or 1 a.m. daylight saving time, with orange Antares now to its lower right. In a telescope Jupiter is 46 arcseconds wide. See Bob King’s Jupiter Is Outstanding at Opposition. And big changes continue in and around Jupiter’s Great Red Spot, as seen in the images here.

Celtic Tree Month of Duir/Oak, Jun 10 – Jul 7 – The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word “robust”). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Affirmation/Thought for the Day – Let your mind be as the horizon, forever expanding and rising.

Journal Prompt – What if? – What would you do if you did very poorly of a test?

~   I do not wish to harm anybody, I am just following my own way but it appears to disturb others, most of the people do not like those who follow a different path. How could I go away from my way? It gives me such happiness, such contentment. Be yourself at any cost! – Dharma
~   Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Until your good is better and your better is best. – Tim Duncan
~   All human beings are also dream beings. Dreaming ties all mankind together. – Jack Kerouac
~   A competitor will find a way to win.  Competitors take bad breaks and use them to drive themselves just that much harder.  Quitters take bad breaks and use them as reasons to give up. – Nancy Lopez, Golfer

Lady! in this night of June
Fair like thee and holy,
Art thou gazing at the moon
That is rising slowly?
I am gazing on her now:
Something tells me, so art thou. – Alfred Austin (1835–1913)

Litha Magick – Prayers

Following your course, laid down in ancient times, you have come unerringly to the heights of the sky, there where you can survey the wide Earth with no obstruction.

May all on which you gaze be to your liking! May all below follow its course as well as you!

Midsummer by JT – http://www.fortunecity.com/greenfield/tigris/567/id20.htm

Midsummer —
Longest day
Shortest night
Longest light
Shortest dark
The world within
Echoes the world without
Lush foliage, leaves unfurled
Soft springy grass dotted with
Brightly colored flowers peeping through
The earth is green and bright
With warm sunny days
Clear velvety blue skies
Gentle cool breezes
Nature in glory
Our hopes blossom
Creativity flowers
With the season
The seeds of the fruit
Our desires will bear
Can be seen
On the stems
Of our dreams

The Prayer of Midsummer

Sun-stone’s kiss, midsummer pleasure,
Welcome all and some.
At the hele-stone sing and gather,
Ever blessed one. – Caitlin Matthews, “Midsummer Blessing”
