Daily Stuff 2-3-20 Oleg the Prophet

Hi, folks!

Open Circle for Imbolc Wednesday 2/5 at 7pm! Featured photo by Ken Gagne. Wicca 101 at 7pm tonight!

I remembered to dump the rain gauge yesterday and it had 1/2 an inch in it. Currently it’s cold and partly cloudy. We’re under a SAMLL CRAFT ADVISTORY until 10pm tonight. 35F, wind at 1-2mph, AQI38, UV2. 20% chance of rain today. 10% overnight. This break in the rain ought to stay until tomorrow evening, and then we should get another break some time next Sunday/Monday. Otherwise plan on rain and showers. The Valley is getting snow, at the moment, but it’s not likely to stick.

Once we were open yesterday, early, was a bit of a whirl. The sun was out, so we had shoppers and I did a reading for one lady. We talked rocks with another couple that is new to Oregon and helped other folks find places in town for various products and places to see for a sunny day.

Tempus was back and forthing with the horseradish guy for several hours. He’s going to stop by this morning with some just-dug roots. After that Tempus got the bacon done. We ate our share! …and then I made the bacon/blue butter.

We did a little work on some SCA projects and then got back to the shop clean-up. Tempus took a load of the stuff that we’ve sorted out to storage, and we closed at around 6pm. I got a nap, then went back to work on sorting things in back. I’d love to know how things are getting crazier with all the work we’ve been doing? …but the storage run helped a little.

Later in the evening we had some of the lasagna and then quit for the night.

Today is more clean-up. I have sewing to do, especially since I finally uncovered the box with the partly done altar cloths. We’ll be open for the usual hours and then the next class in Wicca 01 meets at 7pm tonight.

Today’s plant is New Zealand FlaxPhormium Tenax. This is a very different plant from common flax or linseed, Linum usitatissimum. It is used mostly as an ornamental in the northern hemisphere, but at one time sustained a lively trade as a fiber. While the two plants are very different, they have similar magickal properties. These days the fiber is mostly used by paper artisans. – Masculine, Mercury, Fire, Hulda – Money spells, add to coins and carry, flax in the shoe averts poverty. >>>> A basket made in our Herbs Workshop of the leaves >>>>> For protection while asleep, add to mustard seed, put both opposite cold water. 0203 Oleg the SeerA Day of Remembrance for Oleg the Prophet (Visionary) – Sjechen (February) 3
The Varangian’s (Viking’s) king was a good example of the Rus-Viking. His history is very instructive, yet at the same time mysterious. Volhv of Kiev (a pagan wizard) prophesied to Oleg that his horse would die in battle but afterward he would also be killed. He triumphed under the Byzantines, and after his final battle, his shield was hung on the Gate of Tsargrad in Constantinople. (Volhv: a priest of Slavic Paganism; analogous to the scandinavian “Godhi”) (Tsargrad: The Old Russian name for Constantinople) Wikipedia has an article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oleg_of_Novgorod

Love & Light,

Today’s Astro & Calendar

Waxing Moon Magick – The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Phase ends at the Tide Change on 2/8 at 11:33pm. Waxing Gibbous Moon From seven to fourteen days after the new moon. For spells that need concentrated work over a ¼ moon cycle this is the best time for constructive workings. Aim to do the last working on the day of the Full moon, before the turn. Keywords for the Gibbous phase are: analyze, prepare, trust. It is the time in a cycle to process the results of the actions taken during the First Quarter. During this phase you are gathering information. Give up making judgments; it will only lead to worry. Your knowledge is incomplete. Laugh. Analyze and filter. LOOK WITHIN. God/dess aspect: Maiden/Youth, but in the uncommitted phase, the Warriors – Associated God/desses: Dion, Dionysius, Venus, Thor. Phase ends at the Full on 2/7 at 1:33am.

By late in the week, Mercury becomes higher and easier to spot in twilight, down to the lower right of Venus. The blue 10° scale is about the size of your fist held at arm’s length.

Mercury has embarked on what promises to be its best evening apparition of 2020. Tonight, it appears 9° high in the west-southwest 30 minutes after sunset. The inner world shines at magnitude –0.9, bright enough to show up against the twilight glow. (If you don’t see it right away, binoculars will bring it into view.) A telescope reveals Mercury’s disk, which spans 6.1″ and appears three-quarters lit. The innermost planet will reach its peak at greatest elongation next week.

The Pleiades and Hyades – The Pleiades (right) and the Hyades (left), two young open star clusters in the constellation Taurus the Bull, appear prominent on February evenings. – Rogelio Bernal Andreo (DeepSkyColors.com)

The waxing gibbous Moon shines near Aldebaran tonight, just north of the Hyades star cluster in Taurus the Bull. The Pleiades are farther on the Moon’s opposite side (more or less the opposite side; it depends where you are and when you look). The Hyades’ brightest stars form a V-shaped asterism highlighted by 1st-magnitude Aldebaran, a foreground star that forms one tip of the V. As the night rolls on and the heavens wheel overhead, the Moon shifts eastward. And for those who live south of a line that runs from northern Virginia to central Nebraska, Luna passes in front of magnitude 3.5 Epsilon (ε) Tauri, the star marking the northeastern tip of the cluster. Binoculars will provide the best view of this impressive conjunction.
Look due east, not very high in early evening, for twinkly Regulus. Extending upper left from it is the Sickle of Leo, a backward question mark. “Leo announces spring,” goes an old saying. Actually, Leo showing up in the evening announces the cold, messy back half of winter. Come spring, Leo will already be high.
Venus (magnitude –4.1, in Pisces) is the bright point shining in the southwest during and after twilight. Off to its upper right is the Great Square of Pegasus. In a telescope Venus still appears fairly small (16 arcseconds) and gibbous (72% sunlit). But it will enlarge in size and wane in phase as it shines in the evening for the next four months.

Celtic Tree Month of Luis/Rowan, Jan 21-Feb 17, Luis (LWEESH)/rowan – The rowan, or mountain ash (Sorbus aucuparia L.) is related to servceberries. The red berries were historically used to lure birds into traps, and the specific epithet aucuparia comes from words meaning “to catch a bird”. Birds are also responsible for dispersing the seeds. Rowans thrive in poor soils and colonize disturbed areas. In some parts of Europe they are most common around ancient settlements, either because of their weedy nature or because they were planted. Rowans flower in May. They grow to 15 m (50 feet) and are members of the Rose family (Rosaceae). They are cultivated in North America, especially in the northeast.

Imbolc Magick – Meditation on Cat

Breathe deep… Breathe from your belly, from your core, your center… Inhale and become… Exhale and release… Release all things that do not serve. Anger. Fear. Resentment. Shame. Sadness. Let them flow out of your breath, down to Mother Earth… Breathe in and know that we all breathe the same breath…. Breath out and know that you are safe, surrounded by friends and Gods who will let no harm come to you… Breathe and let the cradling darkness of the Mother envelop you… Rest in Her mysteries as you breathe in… And out…

Floating in the Mother’s womb, you know that you are meant to go forward, to receive a message, to seek the path that She has set you upon… The cat has long been a guide and friend to Witches, and tonight we call upon the power of Cat to guide us to the Lady of the Crossroads who sees all possible pathways…

You hear a sound, maybe a meow, or a roar… You can feel the silent steps of the Cat coming to guide you to the Lady. The darkness fades a little, and as you look around you can see the Cat who has been sent to you. This Cat is your guide… Some of you may be guided by your own house cat, or one who has passed away… Others will be guided by their Cat totems, ranging from Tigers, to Lions, to Panthers, to Leopards, to Lynx’s. Let Cat come to you in the way it is meant to… Spend some time with this Cat… Ask its name and why it has been sent to you…

It is time to go to the Lady… Cat turns, and begins walking away from you… Follow Cat… Follow and know that it is leading you to the Lady of the Crossroads… As you walk with Cat, feel around you for the Direction that you are walking in… If you do not feel which direction you are walking in, you may ask Cat which direction it is taking you in… By paying attention to North, East, South, and West you will get a better idea of what Path you are being set upon…

Looking down at your feet, you see that Cat has taken you upon a Pathway… Looking around you, pay attention to your surroundings… What do you see? Are there trees, animals, birds? Are you near the ocean, a river, or in a desert? What do you smell? Hear? Let these visions come to you…

Looking ahead of you, you see a lady, cloaked in fire… Her red hair shines like the sun, and her eyes are as green as the deep waters… As you get closer, you notice that she is standing at the center of a four-way Crossroad… This is the Lady Bridget. Goddess of Fire, Inspiration, Poetry, Blacksmiths, and the Crossroads. She holds the knowledge of Pathworking and possibilities… Cat brings you to Her, and lays at Her feet… You are struck by Her beauty and obvious strength..

Let Bridget offer to you her words of wisdom… Ask Her any questions you have about the Path are currently on… Let Bridget show you the possible outcomes of your actions, and the possible alternatives…

Ask Bridget any last quick questions that you have for Her, and give Her your thanks… Cat stands, and begins walking down one of the Pathways in the Crossroad… Follow… Is this the same Pathway that you followed to meet Bridget, or a different one? As Cat guides you back to your physical body, is the scenery the same, or somehow altered? Are there any new smells or sounds?

You arrive at a shimmering black-misty Veil… Ask the Cat if it has any last words for you, and thank Cat for it’s guidance… Step through the Veil, and be cradled once again in the Mother’s formlessness…

In this darkness, you are within your own being… Breathe deep and allow yourself to begin slipping back into your physical body… Breathe and become aware once again of your physical body and your physical surroundings… Breathe and let your mind and soul reenter your physical vessel…

Begin to wiggle your toes and fingers… Breathe deep, and begin to slowly move your arms and feet… Roll your head from side to side… Breathe deep, and when you are ready, open your eyes.

You have seen many things in this Quest that will be of great benefit to you. Anytime that you need guidance on your Path, you may call on Cat or Lady Bridget and seek their guidance… If you were lead by a Cat totem, it would be a good idea to continue working with it… If you felt a deep connection with Bridget, you might wish to build an altar for Her, and continue working with Her.

In order for you to keep a blessing and reminder from this Pathwork, you will now be instructed in how to create one of Bridget’s sacred charms, a Bridget’s Cross. This charm will act as a ward of protection, a symbol of the presence of Bridget, and as a amulet for aiding you to keep in contact with the knowledge that was gained at the Crossroads.

Silliness – Deer Tick Warning

I hate it when people forward bogus warnings, but this one is real, and it’s important. So please send this warning to everyone on your e-mail list:\If someone comes to your front door saying they are conducting a survey on deer ticks and asks you to take your clothes off and dance around with your arms up, DO NOT DO IT!\IT IS A SCAM; they only want to see you naked.\I wish I’d gotten this yesterday. I feel so stupid now.
