It’s just cloudy at the moment, but rain showers have rolled through, leaving the pavement damp. 49F, wind at 9-12mph and gusting, AQI38, UV3. There’s a 40% chance of rain today, mostly just showers…. quite a bit of a change from what they were predicting even a couple of days ago…. 20% chance tonight, but we’re still talking windy. There’s a BEACH HAZARD STATEMENT through Monday morning and a SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY through 10 Monday. It should be mostly dry into Saturday and then a fair number of rain showers.
Today is the feast and I’m running out the door by 8am! I’ll be at the Seal Rock Garden club building all day. Stop by to see us!
Today’s plant is the Apricot, Prunus armeniaca. Apricots are a delicious fruit, resembling a small peach, but with a flavor all their own. They were known in the ancient world, possibly being cultivated as far back as 3000BCE. Thought of as an aphrodisiac in the Renaissance it can be fermented into a yummy wine or made into the brandy, Barack. It has properties of healing and health, lust magicks and learning, mostly in educational circles. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apricot
Today is the Roman feast of Terminalia, the feast of borders and endings. Sacrifices were performed at boundary markers and some big ones in the cities, particularly at the old boundary of the city of Rome 6 miles out. Sounds like a good idea to me to acknowledge boundaries and limits on at least one day a year. Hmmm? One of the sky’s largest asterisms — a recognizable pattern of stars separate from a constellation’s form — occupies center stage on February evenings. To trace the so-called Winter Hexagon, start with southern Orion’s luminary, Rigel. From there, the hexagon makes a clockwise loop. The second stop is brilliant Sirius in Canis Major. Next, pick up Procyon in the faint constellation Canis Minor, then the twins Castor and Pollux in Gemini, followed by Capella in Auriga, Aldebaran in Taurus, and finally back to Rigel. Walk the stars of the Winter Hexagon, and seek out some of their deep-sky surroundings, with Gary Seronik’s Explore the Winter Hexagon Tonight.
New Moon occurs at 10:32 a.m. EST. At its New phase, the Moon crosses the sky with the Sun and so remains hidden in our star’s glare.
Although Jupiter passed on the far side of the Sun from Earth less than two months ago, it has already become conspicuous in the predawn sky. The giant planet rises more than two hours before the Sun and climbs nearly 10° above the southeastern horizon an hour before sunup. Shining at magnitude –1.9, Jupiter stands out nicely against the twilight glow.
Neptune is sinking into the sunset, lost to all but the *really* OCD!

Celtic Tree Month of Nuin/Nion/Ash, Feb 18 – Mar 17, Nion (NEE-uhn), ash – the common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) is a major tree of lowland forests in much of Europe, along with oaks and beeches. It grows to 40 m (130 feet) in open sites, with a broad crown reminiscent of American elm trees. Ash was and still is an important timber tree, and is a traditional material for the handle of a besom. The common ash is occasionally cultivated in North America, and similar native ash species are widely grown as street trees. Ashes are members of the Olive family (Oleaceae).

Bulb Planting Earth Chant – http://crystalforest3.homestead.com/beltane.html by Eileen
For all those spring planted bulbs like lilies, oxalis, glads, begonias and such:
breath of the stone is strange to me
i know it lives as i can’t see
force of the earth is strong and free
sustenance and beauty be
born of the stars and sprang from the ground
Mother, Goddess all around
Wheel must turn as the seasons show
what lies dead shall surely grow
Seed Planting Spell
Ostara, like Mabon is a hinge-point in the year.
As the Wheel revolves around the rebirth of the Sun and Son at Yule, this is the point where Winter turns to Spring.
This is a time when you can begin new things or leave old things behind.
Decide which you’re going to do. Make it specific, something you can turn into words.
Take a cup of earth from the tray.
Take 3 seeds from the basket that is going around if you’re beginning something new and 5 if you’re leaving something behind.
Press the seeds into the soil with intent as we meditate on the changing of the energy tide from Winter to Spring. (play the Change of the Tide on a stereo)
Ostara Seed Spell
Small plant pot
Write your goals and ambitions for the following year on the paper. Place the paper at the bottom of the pot, and lay the coin on top of it. Fill the pot with soil. Plant the seed into the soil, and water. Hold the pot between both hands and visualize your dreams/wishes growing as the plant does. Place the pot in a sunny spot, and nurture.
