Daily Stuff 6-11-20 Fortuna

Hi, folks!

Featured photo by Jo Leach. Last Minus Tide of the cycle at 11:45 AM of -0.2 feet. Next cycle begins on the 18th. The shop is open, limited hours, 1-5pm, Thursday through Monday.

The computer weather says we’re having rain showers and the map is mostly green in our local area, but the ground outside is mostly dry. There are standing puddles, but nothing really coming down. The pollen is way up, so if you’re sneezing, now you know. 55F, wind at 0-2mph and gusting, AQI28, UV8. 40% chance of rain today and 60% tonight. It looks like it ought to be just cloudy most of the day after some morning fog clears off. There might be some glimpses of sun late in the afternoon. …and the rest of the forecast, except for a dry Sunday is pretty much the same. We’re spang under a low front, which is dumping rain in northern Washington. What’s left of that swirl in the Gulf of Alaska is still there, although mostly as an absence, but there’s a tighter one up in the Bering Sea that’s heading our direction. Well, it’s still June….

Yesterday I said I was going to be doing dumplings right after getting the newsletter out. Guess what didn’t happen? <sigh> The one thing that I needed that I hadn’t already set out was the breadcrumbs, because I knew right where they were…. and weren’t. So, I figured I’d get the cracked eggs into a clean container…and dropped the shell in, contaminating them even worse… then I went to put the rest of the eggs away and the wimpy box opened and smashed on all over the floor. I cleaned up and gave up at that point.

…and then I couldn’t sleep. Stress, I think, and I had napped, micro-napped really, just enough during the paper route that exhaustion didn’t just flatten me. So I read for a bit, went to grab my embroidery and realized it was still in the car. Agh!

I did finally get to sleep once Tempus was back, but woke cranky-tired at 11 and at 1 and gave up, both times. I finally managed to get up around 4, since there was a prospect of coffee, just not a good start to the day.

It got better. We chatted for awhile, caught up on mail and then I got into a class on the history of beads. He was working in back and found my bread crumbs…. He wasn’t feeling so well, either. Both of us are wobbly and kinda feeling sickish. Not a single clue why. Eventually, I ended up in one of my geology lectures. Not much of a day. Not much accomplished. That doesn’t feel good.

Today we’re planning on opening at 1, as we did last week. We’ll probably close at something close to on time, too, at worst by about 6:30, because it’s bulk route night.

170px-TomisFortuna2Fortuna was the personification of luck and has survived through the Middle Ages and even into the present  in the Wheel of Fortune plant pic coltsfoot herb Petasites_frigidus_1030card in the Tarot. She had various aspects, both good and bad, the caprices of life.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fortuna

Today’s Plant is ColtsfootPetasites frigidus var. palmatus. One of the best cough remedies out there, this is often smoked to help cases of chronic bronchitis and asthma. It is also made into cough syrups often combined with horehound. This is another plant where the medicinal and magickal uses seem to go together. Feminine, Venus, water, Magickal uses – Add to love sachets and use in spell of peace and tranquility. The leaves, when smoked, can cause visions, and aid with breathing problems. .More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petasites_frigidus

Mercury sinking – Look west-northwest shortly after sunset to catch the planet Mercury, creeping lower and growing fainter by the day. – Alison Klesman (via TheSkyX)

About half an hour after sunset, a 25-percent-lit Mercury hovers roughly 10° above the west-northwestern horizon. It’s sinking fast within Gemini the Twins, whose brightest stars — Castor and Pollux — should begin to wink into the sky about 12° above the planet as the sky grows darker. Mercury will continue setting earlier each night, making it more difficult to catch as the days progress. It’s also fading by the day, currently at magnitude 1.1. It will reach magnitude 2 and sit a mere 3° above the horizon 45 minutes after sunset by June 16.
The Big Dipper hangs high in the northwest as the stars come out. The Dipper’s Pointers, currently its bottom two stars, point lower right toward Polaris. Above Polaris, and looking very similar to it, is Kochab, the lip of the Little Dipper‘s bowl. Kochab stands precisely above Polaris around the very end of twilight now. How precisely can you time this event for your location, perhaps using a hanging plumb bob or the vertical edge of a building? Every day it happens 4 minutes earlier, as with everything among the stars.
Uranus is hidden in the glow of dawn.

Celtic Tree Month of Duir/Oak, Jun 10 – Jul 7 – The oak of myth and legend is the common oak (Quercus robur L.). It is sometimes called the great oak, which is a translation of its Latin name (robur is the root of the English word “robust”). It grows with ash and beech in the lowland forests, and can reach a height of 150 feet and age of 800 years. Along with ashes, oaks were heavily logged throughout recent millennia, so that the remaining giant oaks in many parts of Europe are but a remnant of forests past. Like most other central and northern European trees, common oaks are deciduous, losing their leaves before Samhain and growing new leaves in the spring so that the trees are fully clothed by Bealltaine. Common oaks are occasionally cultivated in North America, as are the similar native white oak, valley oak, and Oregon oak. Oaks are members of the Beech family (Fagaceae). Curtis Clark

Affirmation/Thought for the Day – Sometimes we think the world needs policing, quality control. But what it needs even more than that is encouragement and love.

Journal Prompt – What do you think? – What do you think about having set rules for people to follow?

O my Luve is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve’s is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune. – –Robert Burns (1759–96)

Sun Meditation – Thorn Coyle

Were I with you now, we would drum and dance and I would invite you to the center of the circle to invoke the sun and to dance the sun’s energy, to feel its heat on your skin, to work up a sweat and to call it into you until you were running with it, hot, vibrant, vital.

If it is a sunny day, go stand outside once you are done reading this section. If it is not sunny out, remember a day when it was, when the sun burned bright above you and warmed your shoulders. Feel it even on a rainy, snowy, or foggy day. It still adds brightness behind the clouds or foe that obscure it. The sun is out there, steadily flaming as we move in an arcing dance around it, drawn by its warmth and the turning pull of gravity.

Take a deep breath. Close your eyes for a moment and feel the sun. Turn yourself so you face it. Begin to breathe. Imagine that you can breathe in the power of the sun, its heat, it: power. Take it into your belly. Tet yourself begin to move with it. Dance the dance of the sun. If this feels uncomfortable to you, being outside, just take this in, storing it for later, when you can dance the dance of the sun. Call the sun down, call it into your circle. Dance the sun in. Dance it. Sing it. Drum it. What does the sun feel like? Call it in, call it down. You are full of the sun. It is no longer outside of you. You can communicate with it. You can dance with it. You have touched the sun just as the sun touches you. Dance with the sun for a while. You are radiant beauty, powerful, life giving, and strong.

Take another breath. Begin to slow down. Feel your skin become your own, and feel the sun recede beyond your reach. It still warms and feeds you, but it is far outside of you again. Feel your body, human and alive. Breathe in and out. You are beautiful. Thank the sun. Blow it a kiss. Align your Triple Soul with the energy running through you. Blessed be.
