Daily Stuff 3-23-21 Morena

Hi, folks!

The shop opens at 1pm. Winter hours are Thurs-Mon. 1-6pm. Featured photo by Jesse Brackenbury.

The sky is mostly clear. 39F, wind at 1-2mph and gusting, AQI 8-41 , UV5. Chance of rain 4% today and 15% tonight. There’s a SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY for this afternoon through this evening. It looks like today will be lovely, dry and cool and with a little sun. Wednesday, though, it likely to be quite wet and Thursday not much better. Friday things ought to dry out a little and Saturday might be not just dry and sunny, but nearly up to 60F! I’m ready for a little of that kind of weather…. There’s a small chance of showers on Sunday, but the days following should be dry. We’re out-wearing winter, I think.

Fern Fiddles by Beth Kattleman on 4/5/19

Yesterday wasn’t a good day for me physically. I woke coughing and kept coughing all day long, making my throat sore and my chest, even. Despite it, although I kept Tempus busy getting me hot tea, I had a good day.

We had a bunch of customers in, early on, pretty much just looking, but one young couple wanted some info on Wicca and came in just for that. Phil came in later and we had a good chat on our common NDE and channeling experiences.

Tempus went out to the park again and got some pictures of the space that we’re probably going to be occupying. We’re going to both go today, since the shop is closed, and then spend some time working up in the storage units, getting things ready to move. I’m looking forward to pulling out my garden shed and some of the cooking and cake decorating tools.

I got a nap and then we had some of the lentils that I had thawed for supper. It’s been around awhile, since it’s been at least a year since I did beef in burgundy, and that was the base. It was delicious and I had another 1/2 of a filled pear along with it.

I spent quite a bit of the evening working on pricing some of the new stock from Dennis. I’m going to try to get that done for when we open on Thursday. I have the batch of bracelets finished, both shungite and some other “power bead” bracelets.

Once we went home Tempus went to get a nap and I’ve been reading. I need to get some sleep, too, but I’m kinda excited about finally getting back into a place of our own instead of having to depend on friends. So today’s going to be busy and there’s the bulk paper route this evening, too.

feast morena 0323 Veselé_velikonoce

Today’s feast is in honor of Morena or Marzanna, a Slavic Goddess of winter, darkness and mystery. The Marzanna is an effigy that is burned and/or drowned as a symbol of the ending of her time of triumph. She is often associated with Hecate and witchlore.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marzanna

plant flower Trillium_ovatum_1290

Today’s plant is the trillium, specifically the varieties for our state of the Giant Purple Wakerobin, the Idaho Trillium and Round Leaf Trillium. These are one of the characteristic flowers of the Oregon spring forests,  the flowers of spring called Wakerobin since in many places robins and trilliums appear at the same time. It is also called Birthroot and has been used medicinally to control bleeding. Tripartite petals and flower make this an unusual plant and since they grow widely separated in the undergrowth of forests, they’re striking when you come across them. – Feminine, Venus, Water – Carry the root to attract money and luck or –Masculine, Venus & Saturn, Earth – the other magicks of trillium are concerned with boundaries and lust. ….and they’re beautiful!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trillium Yes, it’s odd to have two sets of correspondences for one plant, but that’s the way this one works!

Love & Light,

Today’s Astro & Calendar

Moon in Cancer enters Leo at 2:56pm.

Waxing Moon Magick – The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Phase ends at the Tide Change on 3/28 at 11:48am. Waxing Gibbous Moon – From seven to fourteen days after the new moon. For spells that need concentrated work over a ¼ moon cycle this is the best time for constructive workings. Aim to do the last working on the day of the Full moon, before the turn. Keywords for the Gibbous phase are: analyze, prepare, trust. It is the time in a cycle to process the results of the actions taken during the First Quarter. During this phase you are gathering information. Give up making judgments; it will only lead to worry. Your knowledge is incomplete. Laugh. Analyze and filter. LOOK WITHIN. God/dess aspect: Maiden/Youth, but in the uncommitted phase, the Warriors – Associated God/desses: Dion, Dionysius, Venus, Thor. Phase ends at the Full on 3/26 at 11:48.

The Spring Triangle – The Spring Triangle is easily visible in the April sky and consists of the bright stars Arcturus in Boötes, Spica in Virgo, and Denebola in Leo. – Astronomy: Roen Kelly

Asterisms are unofficial patterns of stars not recognized as one of the 88 official constellations. One of the most famous is the Summer Triangle — but did you know there’s a Spring Triangle, too? The Spring Triangle comprises magnitude –0.04 Arcturus (Alpha [α] Boötis) in Boötes, magnitude 1 Spica in Virgo (Alpha Virginis), and magnitude 2.1 Denebola (Beta [β] Leonis) in Leo the Lion. Although the Triangle is visible all night during the spring in the Northern Hemisphere, the season is still young and Spica — the last of the three to rise — currently clears the horizon shortly before 11 P.M. local time. Once you’ve found this asterism, however, keep returning to it once a week or so to determine how its visibility changes, as Spica rises ever earlier as spring progresses.

After dark look right of the Moon for Pollux, then Castor. Farther below the Moon is Procyon, the Little Dog Star. Even farther below Procyon is bright white Sirius, the original Dog Star itself, the nose of Canis Major.

Neptune is hidden in the glare of the Sun.

Runic half-month of Berkana/ Beorc, 3/14-29 Half-month ruled by the goddess of the birch tree; a time of purification for rebirth and new beginnings.

Celtic Tree Month of Fearn/Alder, Mar 18 – Apr 14. Fern (FAIR-n) Alder – The common alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertner) is common along lowland rivers, where it grows with aspens, poplars, and willows. Like willows, alders sprout from stumps. This allows them to regenerate after heavy flooding. In protect sites they may grow to 20 m (65 feet) tall. Their leaves are more blunt-tipped than most North American alders, which look more like the grey alder (A. incana (L.) Moench). This species is more common in the mountains of Europe, and is not restricted to moist soils. Like ashes, European alders are not widely cultivated in North American (they are often sold as black alders), but several native species are. Alder wood is said to resist rotting when it is wet, and was the wood of choice for pilings in many regions. Alders are members of the Birch family (Betulaceae).

Journal Prompt – Would you? – Would you like to be an astronaut on the first mission to an unexplored planet or a new galaxy? Explain your answer.

~   The important thing is to not stop questioning. – Albert Einstein
~   Your real boss is the one who walks around under your hat. – Napoleon Hill
~   For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much — the wheel, New York, wars and so on — whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man — for precisely the same reasons. – Douglas Adams in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
~   We have the best government that money can buy. – Mark Twain

Again rejoicing Nature sees
Her robe assume its vernal hues,
Her leafy locks wave in the breeze,
All freshly steep’d in morning dews. – Robert Burns (1759–96)

Magick – Spring Spells

Spring Cleaning Preparation Spell

Clarify your mind before you attempt to declutter your environment. Do this by taking a hot lemongrass bath. Just place a handful of lemongrass herb in a square linen handkerchief, and tie it shut. Place the sachet under hot, running water to make a herbal bath. Soak yourself in the bath with the sachet for at least ten minutes. Breathe deeply. Keep your mind as open and clear as you are able. ~Therese Francis – From GrannyMoon’s Morning Feast Archives

Pre-Spring Cleaning Ritual Spell – A- Day – 2/24/5
Incense of the day: Cedar

What is cluttering up your home, both literally and metaphorically? Now is a good time to clear your home of clutter and to clear whatever blocks your progress. Begin with your altar. Is it cluttered? Clear it, put down a fresh altar cloth, and place a new white candle on it. Take a cleansing bath or shower with sage, lavender, or hyssop, chanting “Pure, pure, I am pure” as you bathe. (Purity was very important to the priests and priestesses in ancient times.) At dusk, light the candle. Look into the candle flame and meditate on its solitude and purity. Feel burdens slip off your shoulder, and open the shades so you can see the Moon. Promise the Moon and Virgo the Virgin that you will focus on what is important in life and remove whatever is blocking you. Set aside the time between the Full and New Moon to clear clutter from your life. By: Denise Dumars , Llewellyn and GrannyMoon’s Morning Feast

Spring Creativity Spell – April 17th, 2006 – Color of the day: Ivory  Incense of the day: Peony

Water has been used in sacred rites since the ancient times. Water symbolizes all potential, and to immerse oneself in water is to gain strength from a vast source of potential. April 17 is the feast day of the Himalayan rain god Machendrana. Today, Poles celebrate Drenching Day and Hungarians celebrate Water Plunge Monday. In a vessel of holy water, add one teaspoon lavender flowers, five tablespoons of orange zest, one teaspoon rosemary, and one teaspoon of dried geranium flowers. Steep this mixture overnight. Add this to a sacred bath, visualizing yourself partaking in a vast source of possibility. It is very lucky if it rains today. By all means, walk outdoors and feel each raindrop as a blessing.
