Hi, folks!

11 fires on the map, several with large smoke plumes, already. It’s 56F right now, and clear, but it got up to 76 yesterday. Today is supposed to be cooler. Weather. wind at 2-5mph and gusting, AQI 22-43, UV3 and the pollen level has dropped to “low”. Chance of rain 1% today and 5% tonight. Today should be sunny with a high just under 70F. Sunday will be a little cooler and clouds will thicken up in the evening. Monday through Thursday will have clouds, some days more, some less, with temps in the upper 50’s. On Friday things change a little with showers possible, then a 60% chance of light rain next Saturday.

One of the nasturtiums has grown right through the screen into the window behind my beading table!

Yesterday sailed on past. It was warm enough when we opened that it was actually 10 degrees colder inside than outside! It was lovely weather all day. People were out enjoying it, although a few did pop into the shop. Tempus went out to get mail and one set of pills from the pharmacy. I have one yet to go. The package was some pieces for my sewing machine, a couple of guides and a special foot for doing folding fabrics, plus a foot for doing rolled hems in one step. I worked on shells. I’m having trouble finding correspondences, or even right names, for some of the ones that I have. Thankfully, there are some good identifier charts online. Those are helping a lot.

My microgreens were delivered during the afternoon and a couple of dozen of the beautiful eggs from a local farm. Late in the afternoon Tempus was far enough on cleaning up the work table that I started some cooking. First thing was prepping 10 pounds of carrots. That takes awhile! After that I did the cabbage and ham pottage, which turned out pretty tasty. I’m hoping to get at least one more dish prepped before I go to sleep tonight. Tempus turned in right after supper, but I kept working for another hour or so, then I got a nap. He’s due to head out on the paper route any minute now.

Today we’ll be open at 1pm. Obviously we didn’t get out to the house yesterday, but we were doing research on air purifiers. With any luck we’ll have one today and get it going in the bedroom. I’m figuring on working on marzipan, now that I have a table. I want to get the doughs made, at the least. Sunday is the House Capuchin Virtual Potluck, so I’m going to have to keep cooking. The nice part is that then I won’t have to cook much during the week and have snacky bits for when I’m peckish.

Today’s plant is Field or Scouring Rush Horsetail, equisetum sp.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_horsetail,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equisetum  The darned things are next to impossible to get rid of, although they’re fascinating in construction and growth habit and can be used, dried, for scrubbing pots and finishing wood. In Oregon they’re a noxious weed, since, while the plants have been used as a poverty food (early spring) they can be toxic to grazing animals and are dangerous to people who retain fluid, although the Romans used it both as a tea and a thickening powder. It can be used as a polish and a dye. – Feminine, Saturn, Earth – This is best used in fertility mixtures, sachets, amulets, etc. Place in the bedroom for help in conception. Whistles made of horsetail stems are used in snake charming.

Today’s Feast is that of Machendrana in Nepal, supposedly an ancient and powerful rain god. There’s a Chariot festival associated with this, but do you know, all of the online citations seem to come from one of two sources, since they all have the same wording and there’s nothing that I’ve found that says that this is anything but a modern pagan invention? One of the citations of this is Gerina Dunwich’s Wiccan Book of Days, the other seems to be an expanded wording of that. Hmmm….

This week both Mars and the Moon pass upward between the horntip stars of Taurus.

Now the Moon shines upper left of tiny Mars, as shown above. The Moon passes 0.1° south of Mars at 5 A.M. PDT. Although the pair is not above the horizon at that time, look west again after sunset to see how their relative positions have changed since yesterday evening.

Bright <<<<<<<<<<< Arcturus ascends in the eastern sky during evening while Capella >>>>>>>>>>>>, its close match for brightness, descends in the northwest. They stand at exactly the same altitude around the end of twilight, depending on your location.

And at that time, the Sickle of Leo stands upright high in the south. Its bottom star is Regulus, the brightest of Leo. Leo himself is walking westward. The Sickle forms his front leg, chest, mane, and part of his head. Off to the left, a long right triangle forms his hind end and long tail.

Spot brighter Procyon nearly four fists to the lower right of Regulus. About halfway along that line and just a bit below, look for the dim head of Hydra, the Sea Serpent.

Instead of focusing on Mars tonight, instead key in on the Moon. Tonight’s target is the Valentine Dome — a gently sloping heartshaped dome rising less than 400 feet (122 meters) above the lunar surface. It’s only visible at low Sun angles, such as today. By tomorrow, it will be all but invisible as the angle of the sunlight changes. Look for the Valentine Dome along the western flank of the Sea of Serenity. Nearby (to the east) is a line of craters: Linné A, B, F, H, and G. If you aren’t able to find it tonight, don’t worry — the tableau will repeat itself when the Sun shines at a low angle (this time, from the west) early next month, on May 2.

Mercury and Venus remain buried in the sunset, but not for long. Next week they’ll start emerging into low twilight view together.

Celtic Tree Month of Saille/Willow, Apr 15 – May 12 The Willow in the Tree alphabet stands for the female and lunar rhythms of life. She is water-seeking, thriving from preference on the damp margins of lakes and streams or across the low-lying water meadows. Water and the tidal movements of the sea are governed by the pull of the moon. The moon in its monthly rhythms is female, contrasting with the male sun’s daily and yearly turnings. In several ways, the Celts held women in higher regard than we do today. On the material level, women were property owners, and whoever controlled the property controlled the marriage. Women of all types and ages appeared in the Celtic pantheon, the spiritual strength and life-giving qualities given by both female and male recognized equally. There were colleges of Druidesses – learned women and teachers – respected equally for their gifts of see-ship, often expressed through dreams, or night visions.
Magical Associations: Romantic love, healing, protection, fertility, magic for women.

TO F. C. iST April 1876.

Now if to be an April Fool

Is to delight in the song of the thrush,
To long for the swallow in air’s blue hollow,

And the nightingale’s riotous music-gush.
And to paint a vision of cities Elysian

Out away in the sunset-flush —
Then I grasp my flagon and swear thereby.
We are April Fools, my Love and I.

And if to be an April Fool

Is to feel contempt for iron and gold,
For the shallow fame at which most men aim—

And to turn from worldlings cruel and cold
To God in His splendour, loving and tender. And to bask in His presence manifold —
Then by all the stars in His infinite sky.
We are April Fools, my Love and I. –Mortimer Collins (1827–76)

Beltane Magick – Lore – Beltane and Sex Magic – Author: Red Dragon [a WitchVox Sponsor], Posted: April 30th. 2017

Organized religion has dealt a low blow to sexual pleasure over the centuries. Both men and women, although mostly women, have struggled at the very least to keep their sensuality and sex-lives intact. If we’re especially diligent, we’ve managed to achieve Sex Magic! So, this Spring, this Beltane, let’s honor our beautiful, juicy selves, regardless of our age, and consider for a few moments here how glorious our pleasure-seeking eroticism can be for enhancing our joy, expanding our heart energy, cultivating magic and revitalizing our connection with all that is.

Sex Magic is a combination of external techniques and internal practices, most of which are aimed at heightening our ability to feel into the intricacies of our ecstatic experience, to influence it’s quality and to strengthen our presence. It deepens awareness, and enhances pleasure and connection during a sexual encounter. Means and practices in the toolbox of the erotic magician are Tantra, sexual Pagan artistry, female ejaculation, multiple orgasms, shamanic ecstasy, orgasmic meditation and much more.

Male and female and the potential energy between them are the main catalysts of the evolutionary force of the Goddess, Eros, Aphrodisia and eroticism. Spirit uses whatever means are necessary to break us open and force our quickening. Magnetism between the sexes is the primary vehicle for arousing our limbic consciousness. Kundalini represents a ripening and fruition of the body/mind of the individual and is the driver for collective sensual awakening. This Kundalini, this perfect love, elevates all that is mundane and raises all that is ‘dead.’

Sex is the essence of creation, from the birth of all life, to the birth of creative expression. For centuries, we’ve worked to channel this energy into the most fulfilling areas and higher states of consciousness. Countless practices reference the hidden (and not so hidden) powers within sexual expression. The Kabbalah sees sexual desire as the deepest spiritual expression one can have. Yogic philosophy refers to Kundalini, our sexual energy, which lies dormant until exaltation in its highest form.

Sex Magic is sexual alchemy, a chemical/hormonal romance that transforms the raw energy from our libidos into rapturous creativity. This catharsis releases built-up tension and is a catalyst to exploring our sexual guilt, denied sexual urges by our learning to embrace more fully our shadow elements in the sexual domain.

As individuals, we have the freedom to choose the manner in which we express our personal eroticism. Sexual freedom means mutually respectful, consensual acts of intimate adult sensuality and sexuality, between or amongst trusted, equal partner (s) . A sexually free individual leads a lifestyle that harms none as it does not ever involve coercion.

By opening our heart, we use our creative life force energy (sexual energy) to merge ecstatically with our partner (s) and through him or her, we become one with the Universe or the Goddess/God as a Divine Union. Nothing can match the explosive energy created in the body by pure desire. The energies fueled by passion are used to nourish the inner flame that melts the egotistical perception of the mind. We discover for ourselves the Divine Masculine or Divine Feminine within our own heart and mind that enable us to attain mastery of our breath, thought, and the natural process of the body towards ecstatic pleasure and love for, first, ourselves, that we may never have known existed. Once we bring this into sacred union with another, we never settle for anything less again.

Because we are sexually free, we lack the guilt and shame so characteristic of a patriarchy that loathes the spirituality of eroticism and the temporal pleasures of the body and flesh. Those of us who celebrate — as well as practice — the ideals inherent in an erotic and lustful worldview are unaffected in our private, personal lives by mainstream religious society’s prevailing sex-negative conventions, practices and/or attitudes.

Genuine, authentic (and often tantalizing) sexual relations are a purely personal matter; these private interactions depend solely on the individual consciences of the people involved. Sexually free people accept gays and lesbians, bisexuals, alternative partnerships, polyfidelity, polygamy and polyamory. We rejoice in the freedom of sex magic as self-affirming, life-affirming and self-empowering, while sharing pleasures of the body with another or others. All of this awakens us to our own awareness of our ‘aliveness, ’ is physically and spiritually energizing.

Healing through sexual ecstasy is to be experienced playfully, yet with awareness and a sense of sacredness in every gesture, every sensory perception, and every action. For the sexual magician, this is a spiritual path, albeit highly sensual, which includes and appreciates the experience of our sexuality and as a conscious meditation, as a flowing together of the physical, erotic and cosmic energies. The magic of eroticism in the shamanic realms is a merging of spiritual-sexual-energetic integration using movement, breath, sound and rhythm to open up and awaken your senses to being present, and to feeling what is.

In sex magic, we uncover, evoke and embody erotic archetypes. They can be valuable and exciting allies for heightening sensitivity, strengthening awareness, sexual healing and for widening the range of erotic play. Diving deeper into the fabric of our human experience and our erotic selves, we enhance the energies of intention, bliss and presence, while enjoying more awareness, richness and pleasure in our life.

Intently drinking in and responding to the scent of trees and flowers, the melody of birdcalls and music of spring’s awakening, the feeling of grass between our toes or against our bare back, the taste of wild fruit’s warm, sweet juice; undulations of life, the language of Eros, of nature’s native tongue, we deepen our connection, open our heart and expand into our fully embodied, ripe, sexual selves. Naked and joyous in the sun, this kind of immersion is our most powerful ally in becoming aware of and eradicating unconscious patterns that may have gotten in the way of our creating and enjoying our own intense, magical, desirous sexuality in relationships or encounters.

Experientially, by using Tantra, ancient and new shamanic and/or Pagan teachings, and a myriad of other techniques, or just spending a few days immersed in nature, it’s possible that the simplest of shifts in presence and heart, in our breathing, or in our movement or mindset will change our life, our joy and our intimacy.

Spring is the mating season; isn’t it time for us sexual magicians to wave our magic wands over those still sleeping, to awaken them into their fully acknowledged sexuality? Sexual energy can’t be destroyed, but only transformed. Beltane is the season of transformation, rebirth, renewal, a bursting forth from the sacred womb of our Mother Earth in unbridled, fantasy-evoking rapture, magic and euphoria!
