I do not know at this point how much of a newsletter there’s going to be from tomorrow through Sunday! I’m scheduling the filled newsletters to post appropriately, but there may have to be updates later. We’ll see how well it does/n’t work….

Monday evening, after the newsletter went out I still had stuff to do. First was doing a bunch of updates on the tablet. After that I decided to clear some of the computer files by posting a bunch of grandbaby pix here: https://ancientlightshop.wordpress.com/calendar/psychic-fair-information/grandbabys-fourth-year/ and then archiving the folders. I was waiting for Tempus to finish up in back. We were finally on the way home at 7pm.

I got a bit of a bath and then we ate supper and went to sleep. I ended up sleeping most of the night. Pretty tired from the week, and only worked on my tablet a little. We’re back at the shop at close to the normal time, since I need coffee before my appointment and I figured to at least do mail while I’m here.

Well! I *have* lost some weight! Granted I’m at my lowest weight for the year around now, but I’m down 20 pounds from this date last year! BP normal and got my ears cleaned, so I’m good to go. I have to go back in two weeks to check the cleaning, since it wasn’t complete, but she didn’t want to make my ears sore.

Oof… so we’re back at the shop for me to finish putting the newsletters together and find my stuff…. and all I want to do is curl up and sleep. Argh…. So, I got a nap, then pulled out my clothes for the weekend and then filled water bottles. …and Tempus has those in the freezer.

I need to get this done and out and get back to work, but it’s getting awfully hot in the shop. I really wasn’t comfortable in back. …OK, Tempus has my pile of clothes and he’s opened the door. Gotta find pickles, yet, and something for supper and get home….

Photo by me from 9/16/14. This was taken in the Hackleman Old Growth Forest along Rt. 20 on the way to Sisters.

…and Amber and her fam just stopped by for a visit. That’s why this is later than I planned. So good to see them!!!

Today should be the day that I head to Eugene. The shop will be open over the weekend, with Tempus in charge. No Herbs today!

feast 0907 Lighthouse_LongStone_with_Grace_Darlings_Bedroom_WindowFarne_Islands_Northumberland

Today’s Feast is in honor of Grace Darling‘s daring deed. More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Darling

‘Twas on the Longstone Lighthouse, there dwelt and English maid;
Pure as the air around her, of danger ne’er afraid;
One morning just at daybreak, a storm-tossed wreck she spied;
And tho’ to try seemed madness, “I’ll save the crew!’ she cried.
And she pull’d away, o’er the rolling sea,
Over the waters blue –
‘Help! Help!’ she could hear the cry of the shipwreck’d crew –
But Grace had an English heart,
And the raging storm she brav’d –
She pull’d away, mid the dashing spray,
And the crew she saved! – Song about Grace Darling, British heroine of the September 7, 1838 disaster

Today’s Plant is Cittim Bark (Cascara), Rhamnus purshiana. It is a potent laxative and has been used for that for centuries. –Masculine, Saturn, Earth – Sprinkle an infusion of this around the home before legal proceedings, to help you win your case. It is used in money spells and worn in a brown cloth amulet will protect again evil influences and hexes. It can be sewn into a poppet to attract those influences away from you, but place this outside at night, especially. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascara_Sagrada

Summer hours are 1-6pm Thurs.-Mon., although we’re often here later as the days get longer. Need something off hours? Give us a call at 541-563-7154 or Facebook message or email at anjasnihova@yahoo.com If we’re supposed to be closed, but it looks like we’re there, try the door. If it’s open, the shop’s open! In case of bad weather, check here at the blog for updates, on our Facebook as Ancient Light, or call the shop.

Astrology, Astronomy and other Stuff

Moon in Aquarius

Waxing Moon Magick – The waxing moon is for constructive magick, such as love, wealth, success, courage, friendship, luck or healthy, protection, divination. Any working that needs extra power, such as help finding a new job or healings for serious conditions, can be done now. Also, love, knowledge, legal undertakings, money and dreams. Phase ends at the Tide Change on 9/10 at 2:59am. Waxing Gibbous Moon – From seven to fourteen days after the new moon. For spells that need concentrated work over a ¼ moon cycle this is the best time for constructive workings. Aim to do the last working on the day of the Full moon, before the turn. Keywords for the Gibbous phase are: analyze, prepare, trust. It is the time in a cycle to process the results of the actions taken during the First Quarter. During this phase you are gathering information. Give up making judgments; it will only lead to worry. Your knowledge is incomplete. Laugh. Analyze and filter. LOOK WITHIN. God/dess aspect: Maiden/Youth, but in the uncommitted phase, the Warriors – Associated God/desses: Dion, Dionysius, Venus, Thor. Phase ends at the Full on 9/8 at 2:59pm.

Both Saturn and the Moon are near the sky’s opposition point.

Saturn shines upper left of the Moon this evening, as shown above.

As dusk turns to night, Arcturus twinkles due west. It’s getting lower every week. From Arcturus, the narrow, kite-shaped pattern of Bootes extends upper right by a little more than two fists at arm’s length. Farther off to the right in the northwest, the Big Dipper is turning more and more level.

Although Juno was one of the first four asteroids discovered, it ranks 10th in size. (These are the sizes the first four would be if they were perfectly spherical.)

Asteroid 3 Juno reaches opposition at 1 P.M. EDT in Aquarius, meaning it is visible all night, from dusk until dawn. The main-belt world sits 4° northwest of 4th-magnitude Phi (ϕ) Aquarii, and glows at magnitude 7.7. That’s bright enough to pick up with binoculars or any small scope. It lies just over half of the distance between two field stars, one 7th magnitude and the other 9th. (Juno is closer to the fainter star.) If you’d like a target that’s just a little brighter, you don’t have to go far: 4 Vesta is now 6th magnitude and also swimming through Aquarius, though on the constellation’s southern side and much closer to the Moon’s current location. Drop about 7.2° directly down toward the horizon from Deneb Algedi in Capricornus to find it. Again, the nearby Moon may make spotting even this brighter asteroid a challenge, so if you’re finding yourself frustrated, just wait about half a week and the Moon will have moved on, though both asteroids will have moved a bit, too. Check out the Locating Asteroids section of September’s Sky This Month for a chart showing how to find Vesta all month.

The Moon reaches the closest point to Earth in its orbit, called perigee, at 2:19 P.M. EDT. At that time, our satellite will sit 226,485 miles (364,492 kilometers) from us.

Jupiter glares low due east by late twilight. After dark it dominates the low east, then the higher southeast, at a bright magnitude –2.8. It’s in an otherwise undistinguished area near the Pisces-Cetus border. It stands highest in the south around 2 a.m. daylight-saving time. In a telescope Jupiter is 49 arcseconds wide across its equator, nearly its maximum possible, as it approaches its September 26th opposition. Jupiter this year is close to the perihelion of its 12-year orbit.

Celtic Tree Month of Muin/Vine  Sep 2 – 29 – Muin  – (MUHN, like “foot”), vine – The grape (Vitis vinifera L.) is a vine growing as long as 35 m (115 feet), in open woodlands and along the edges of forests, but most commonly seen today in cultivation, as the source of wine, grape juice, and the grape juice concentrate that is so widely used as a sweetener. European grapes are extensively cultivated in North America, especially in the southwest, and an industry and an agricultural discipline are devoted to their care and the production of wine. Grapes are in the Grape family (Vitaceae).

Quotes

~   I shall have a fine book of travels, I feel sure; and will tell you more of the South Seas after very few months than any other writer has done – except Herman Melville perhaps, who is a howling cheese. – Robert Louis Stevenson (‘howling cheese’??); letter to Charles Baxter, September 6, 1888, Letters of Robert Louis Stevenson, Vol. 2, Ch. X   Source

Sing a song of Summer,
The world is nearly still,
The mill-pond has gone to sleep,
And so has the mill.
Shall we go a-sailing?
Or shall we take a ride,
Or dream the afternoon away
Here, side by side? – Cosmo Monkhouse (1840–1901)

Mabon Magick – Prayers

For the golden corn and the apple on the tree,
For the golden butter and the honey from the bees,
For the fruits and nuts and berries we gather on our way,
We praise the loving Mother Earth and thank Her everyday. – Beliefnet member loumomAppropriate for many faiths

We say the sun has shifted
‘cross celestial equator.
It is but our perception of the sun.
We are the thing now
Shifting through the sky.T. Thorn Coyle

Summer sun begins to wane,
The trees all fall asleep
The harvest’s in, the birds fly south
The leaves are piling deep.

Indian Summer Days are rare,
Long nights bring morning frost,
Fall flowers drying in the fields
Life’s beauty fades, is lost ~ Catriona Lovett (c) 2002
