Last Minus Tide of the cycle at 6:42 PM of -0.1 feet.
43F with a light breeze. The sun is coming and going ,but you can really tell the Wheel is Turning into spring. When there aren’t any clouds the sun is so bright! There are little birds all over the porch, mostly chickadees, although I saw one finch. …and they’re fluttering all over the alder. …and they all flew off, leaving one towhee just sitting.
Yesterday was fun, but I hurt. Not damage, just too much “feet time”! We had only 1/2 the number of people that I expected at minimum, so there’s a lot of food left over. I’m going to the Duckmeister’s today to finish the clean-up, so I won’t be at the shop. …and I won’t be boring you to tears over all the food things, now, at least!

Last night when we were leaving the Duckmeister’s, all the little frogs and some larger ones were sounding off in the marsh. There was fog and the moon silvered it to the point that it looked like we were driving through Fairyland! It was really bright during the night. 
I kept waking up to go gaze at it.

Tempus is going to be at the shop all day, and then he’ll come back for me this evening and we’ll get the last stuff out. We’re switching to Spring Hours as of Thursday (not today), so we’ll be staying open until 6pm officially, and then switch to Summer Hours in May.

Today’s plant is Nasturtium, Tropaeolum majus, (not watercress, which is true nasturtium). It’s certainly not native to the PNW, but grows well here. I love the brilliant oranges and yellows of the flowers. They’re yummy, too, with a slightly peppery taste, both leaf and flower and the seeds serve as a substitute for capers in pickles. The flowers stand for Victory in Battle;
Patriotism and Affectation and are little used in magicks other than as symbols and foods for Ostara and Beltane celebrations because of their association with the Sun. They also can be used as a symbol for “sacrifice to the larger good” of soldiers, firemen and police, but are usually only seen at funerals in this context. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tropaeolum_majus
The Feast of the Perpendicular Sun happens twice a year in Egypt at the Tempus of Abu Simbel, built for Ramses II in the 13th century BCE. The aisle of the temple lights up with the sunrise until all the way at the back of the temple the Pharoah’s particular gods are illuminated.
This happens on Ramses birthday and the anniversary date of his ascent to the throne, iow 2/22 and 10/22. Because of the Aswan Dam, the temple was disassembled and moved to higher ground in the 60′s, but the dates are still good, because they worked really hard to make that happen. Monday, Feb. 22, 1:20 p.m. EST – Full Moon, February 2016 – The February Full Moon is known as the Snow Moonor Hunger Moon. It rises around sunset and sets around sunrise; this is the only night in the month when the moon is in the sky all night long. The rest of the month, the moon spends at least some time in the daytime sky. Look above the Moon by about a fist at arm’s length for Regulus.
The Moon passes Regulus and pairs up with Jupiter. (These scenes are always drawn exact for near the middle of North America: for latitude 40° N, longitude 90° W.)
Mars (magnitude +0.4, in Libra), rises around midnight and glows yellow-orange in the south by the time dawn begins. In a telescope it’s 8 arcseconds in diameter. Mars will appear more than twice as large, 18.6 arcseconds wide, when it’s closest to Earth in late May and early June.

Celtic Tree Month of Nuin/Nion/Ash, Feb 18 – Mar 17, Nion (NEE-uhn), ash – the common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) is a major tree of lowland forests in much of Europe, along with oaks and beeches. It grows to 40 m (130 feet) in open sites, with a broad crown reminiscent of American elm trees. This is a neat craft project you can make before Ostara. Hide these eggs for your kids to find, and then when they crack them open, they can find the treasure hidden inside!
You’ll need:
- 1 C. all-purpose flour
- ½ C. salt
- ¼ C. clean sand
- 1 C. used coffee grounds
- ¾ C. warm water
- Crystals or gemstones
- Non-stick cooking spray
- Acrylic paints in your favorite colors
Blend flour, salt, sand and coffee grounds together. Gradually add the water, and knead until you’ve got a thick, gritty dough. Spray a crystal lightly with non-stick cooking spray, and place it in the center of a small scoop of dough. Shape the dough around the crystal to form an egg shape. Bake the eggs at 350 for about 15 minutes, and allow to cool. Once they’ve cooled, they should be nice and hard, like a rock. Paint the eggs, and allow paint to dry.
Hide the eggs on Ostara, and let your kids crack them open to reveal the hidden crystals!
